  • its painless aint it!

  • I've been on the pump for six years and have used the Cleo 90 infusion sets from the day they came out. I've had a problem with them leaking for the past few months, so I'm trying out other sets. My doctor gave me one of these to try and I didn't feel a thing (like usual)! I wanted to double check that I was going to put it in properly and frantically searched for instructions on how to use it. This showed up and did the trick! Thanks for the help! :)

  • ***I wear a paradigm pump and cut a small hole in the top, inside of both pockets of all the pants I wear. I make it big enough so the round part of the infusion set can fit through. So, I put the pump in my pocket and pull the round tubing part through the hole and attach it to my stomach. The extra just sits in my pocket or hangs inside of my pants. No one ever sees the pump or the tubing. And, no one has ever commented on the holes.***

  • see my personal message to you.

  • Awesome vid! Another type 1 diabetic here! I have the same infusion set as you but I use the Animas 2020 pump. I was just curious about the sticky thingy that you put on your stomach before you put the set on. I get those with my supplies but never use them. When I was trained to use the pump I was never told to use that. Is it just an alternate version of the Iv Prep and how well does it hold up to water if the set isn't against your skin? It doesn't bug the needle going through the extraness?

  • glad to hear you found it helpfull!

  • I am a type 1 diabetic considering the pump. This video was extremely helpful in helping me understand how the pump is connected. It looks pretty easy. Thanks.

  • i recommend for you to get into contact with the pump representatives in your area and ask them to let you do a test drive "DEMO".. of their pumps! call the pump companies and tell them to have the rep also call you!..also ask them for the phone number of a local rep for confirmation and call the rep yourself!..otherwise if you just wait for THEM to call you they might take a few weeks.. or months.. etc..... you don't wanna wait that long!! once u want a pump, u gonna want it yesterday! haha!

  • i make those pumps for medtronic :)

  • me my self is atype 1 Diabetic I use an insulin pump minimed508 and im jst 14 yrs old

  • hello..i want to get a pump

i was diagnosed with diabetes a couple months ago and i hate hate hate taking shots, i always tell my mum i have done it when i really havent! loll

how did you cope with taking shots? an what hurts more injfusion site needles or regular insulin needles?

  • i was on shots for about 7+ years and after i got the pump, i wanted to kick myself for not getting it SOONER!!!!! neither shots not infusion sites hurt ..to me. the only time to say ouch , as any person taking injections knows, .. is if you hit a nerve or muscle or blood vessel or heaven forbid a tendon!!! *cringe.. lol, and its the same issue with infusion sites.

  • as long as you hit a good fatty area, you barely feel a thing. with infusion site needles, i wouldn't necessarily describe it so much as a painful thing exactly, but just a slight bit different feeling due to the more pressure required to push it it versus the regular shot needles

  • you quickly learn that needle size does not make a bit of a difference in what you feel it going in, so don't be intimidated by the longer needles that are required to put the site canullas in.

  • dude you shouldn't lie about not taking shots... i know someone who went blind because of that but you only get a pump when your diabetic nurse/doctor tells you that you will benefit

  • some people may have a harder time than others in getting their doctors to let them get a pump. i say.. if you want a pump, and you beleive that you are ready for a pump, and your doctor is opposed to the idea or keeps brushing you off on it.. fire your doctor and get yourself a new doctor that will be happy to help you get one! not all doctors are highly competent about insulin pumps!!! certainly, some doctors are downright intimidated by the technology!

  • Thank you for reply. Im gonna try useing those tapes I have lying around. I think I know what you mean, if you put the tape over the site its hard to disconect. I put it over once and when I tried to remove it to take a shower my infusion set almost came off cause of the sticker tape. Thanks

  • Hi there, I'm a 24 year old type 1 using a paradigm with the minimed quick-set. Why is it that you use the tape on your skin before inserting it? is it an allergy thing? or does it help?

  • (Im a type one diabetic) Hello I really like your video. Very informitive. I was wondering why you put the sticker thing on then insert the infusion set on top of that? See I ask this question because when I first started on my minimed 722 insulin pump they sent me a box of those sticker things and I dont know what its really for.

  • IV3000 tape can be used 2 diff ways.. either over on top of the infusion set to use (like instead of *ducktape) lol, to secure the site,(but then that makes it hard to disconnect!) or.. as i do, put it between your skin and the site .. for me this way i get more tape holding on to my skin *better grip!, plus the Infusion set sticks better to the IV3000 than it does by itself to my skin. so if i sweat, theres less chance of site coming totally loose. i just wipe off under tape n stick back on!

  • I'm diabetic too what are you doing in the video?

  • i'm showing how to put in a specialty Infusion set and prove that you can use different infusion sets with this insulin pump than the minimed company suggests, and you can do it because of a special type of reservoir. do you have an insulin pump?

  • Do you have a special shirt on that allows for your pump? It looks like there's a rectangle shape by your bra line... Do tell, if so.

  • nothing special really.. i just have one of those fancy leather universal cellphone cases i bought from walmart that i use since it fits my pump perfectly...and i just happened to have it clipped there.

  • i'm not sure exactly what you are refering to.. could you clarify please?

  • ok this video will work my friend asked what swap out means i say swap out idk if thats what i should call it or not XD

  • Hi, great vid! My KP doc just talked me into a pump and I am trying to decide what kind. You like the MiniMed better than the Animas?

  • Minimed wins 99.8 % of my vote over the Animas!!!!! ;) ..and i've plenty reasons why. seek out the pumpers group on myspace if you wanna know more. i HEART my minimed.

  • your doctor should be able to help you figure out your correct basal rates and on the pump, you can always temporarily reduce yout basal rates by setting a temp basal if you are going low. hope you're doing well with your new pump!

  • HEY' i like ur video' i makes me feel alot more confortable because im gittin a pump started on me today' i hope its good as everyone says'what do you do when urs got lower when u first got it' mine stays hi now' im f raid it may git really low on the pump till im use to it..

  • Hey, i just read your comment. How's your pump doing. I got mine January 2. 2008.

  • hey there i get my pump put on today i am scared in ways but relived to because i have to take 7 shots a day i really enjoy watching this video it has helped me in so many ways.i was wondering when you are on the pump do you ever get real low. iam afraid mine will get to low but i wanted to say keep up the good work.

  • yes, sometimes you will have more lows with the pump, but that is mostly due to getting into tighter range of blood sugar controll. if you count your carbs correctly and have your basal rates well adjusted, than that should reduce the likeliness of having lows. for me the best thing is that although i still have some lows occasionally, they are not ever as bad as the lows i would get when taking shots! *pumps now have an insulin on board calculator! .. which is really great!!!

  • My question is what didn't you like about the animas 2020? in fact, it looks really better, smaller, color screen, waterproof, and longer battery and they sell the inset too so Kaiser will cover it since it will be from animas. Please help me as you seem very similar to me.

    Thanks again!

  • see response in my personal message to you.

  • First, I want to thank you for this excellent video. I love the insets and was thinking of switching my animas IR1200 to the minimed because I can get the continuous blood glucose system built in in one device :)) but I hated the quickset. I also use Kaiser as my insurance.

  • i also am not a fan of the quicksets.. although they do work well for certain people... just not for me. IMO the Insets are WAYYYY better. see.. now you can go for the minimed, and still have your insets too! :)

  • hey what brand of insertion set is that? i really like how it comes in lime green thats cool!

  • that in called an INSET.

  • i use insulin pens and am onsidering getting a pump. does the inserter needle hurt much when it gooes in? does it automatically contract after inserting the tube or does it come out when you pull the inserter of?

  • it doesn't hurt much different than a manual injection. all things considered..ie hitting a nerve, muscle or vein.. just the same feeling as a shot. the needle comes out when you pull the inserter off. it is attached to the inserter. i love the insets compared to other sets i've tried cuz i don't really feel the insertion whereas with the quicksets, i always felt a burn.

  • Thank you for the info. I am going in to get my minimed pump on the 28th. I think it will be an improvement for me. I am glad to find someone that can be so positive about the whole thing. Do you spend extra for the different connector type? Can you get insurance to cover it? Thanks

  • Congrats! its hard not to be positive about great technologies! 10/Box= $33./same per box of minimed's resvs. I choose to pay out of pocket for the reservoirs cuz they're totally worth it to me,also since my insurance (KP)doen't cover/contract with Fifty50 which supplies those reservoirs. at least my ins. does cover the various infusionsets though! it really depends on your ins company.. try contacting the supplier and ask which ins companies have a record of covering their supplies.

  • I love my minimed722 pump, especially after having tried the Animas2020 as well before making my final decision as to which pump i would get. the Minimed -IMO rocks!

  • Very nice. I use injections now but am going to a pump. Do you like yours? Dosn't that big inserter scare you? I have spots that dont hurt and some that do so I usually feel around with the needle before I do a shot, not being able to do that and maybe hitting a really painful spot scares me. Any thoughts? Thanks for the great vid.

  • seeing an inserter needle for the first time probably scares most people.. but then you get over it. besides, the length and size of the needle doesn't really make any great difference in what you feel when it is inserted... its all in our minds. think of the inserter as a really awesome tool that helps you get the teeny needle in Wayy more easily and painlesly. its hard to remain scared of something that is so wonderful.

  • i usually poke around with my needles too, because i like to avoid any blood vessels if i can help it, and not that its recommended, but i still do the poking around with my infusion sets before insertions for certain areas.( clean site area first though)!

...although after a while you get to poking around less and less, when you get to know exactly where the good areas are...! ;)

  • I noticed that when you took out the reservoir from your pump (the almost empty one), that you didn't rewind your pump. Is that a step that you don't have to do for the leurlock (sp!?) or did you already do that off-camera (to save time)?

Good video by the way. Really enjoyed it. Thanks so much!

  • good guess! yes you always still have to rewind the pump first. (i just did it beforehand off-camera.)

thanks for your comments everyone!, .. happy to answer any of your questions on this. please ask!

  • What is a luerlock?

  • Mimimed 's Paradigm pumps have a proprietary infusion set tubing-to-reservoir cap connector.. a luerlock connector is the other version that is common and widely used with every other pump.. luer lock connector is a easy screw on/off small pencil eraser size connector. whereas minimed's are round caps about the size of a dime.

  • That was cool.

  • awsome
