Before they nerfed these and people figured out about dismount, I could do some major rape with these. Especially when I faced a 1star and had no money. I would just kill their gen with 1 inspired volley and then run in with 1 unit of nagi war monks and great guard, the morale shocks just destroyed them.

@SartaqKhan Not since they developed strong two handed weapons. They used to have shields in ancient times such as the Kofun period but once they started developing better armor (especially the large sode/ shoulder guards of the kamakura period and earlier) shields were discarded to facilitate the use of two handed weapons. The same trend happened in europe during the mid 15th century.

The TW series always had problems with their gun units. In Empire they were too weak, in Napoleon too strong. And in Medieval 2 you could shoot a large castle wall to bits in two or three shots with an ordinary culverin, and a rimbault recharges so fast I swept away half an army of horsemen and infantry. Many say "it's a game", but in that case why not ad Da Vinci's desings for choppers and tanks? It needs to be a little correct, no?
