I lived about 1 mile from hog island. It was great fun.

I too live just a few miles from there ( Bushnell) I have not camped there in years!! ( I used to all the time) Its a beautiful place!! It can get busy in the summer. But early spring or late fall you will be all to yourself. Late fall sunsets on the river or silver lake can be enchanting.

Does the Croom Hiking tail take you to Silver Lake. Does it go along the river. This place looks awsome. Does it get crowded, or is it a "best kept secret."

The Croom Hiking Trail won't take you to Silver Lake. In periods of low water you can jump across the rocks at the Iron Bridge Day Use area and hike over to Silver Lake. Done that a few times! I can't recall ever seeing many folks on the trail, and I've hiked it for years.

Awesome! Lived just down the road a few miles (only about 15 mi. now!) until a few months ago. Great place to camp, hike, and paddle!

Thanks - this place is like heaven to me. It's where I grew up wild & free, I miss it.
