Does anyone know the complete lyrics to this song ? I've looked for years ,but nobody seems to know what is said after the line "emerald stones and platinum ..." ?
@nhbright Actually Paul & Hugh sang on this one because they ran out of tracks for vocal overdubs -- Abbey Road was still only 4 tracks in 1967 -- so they needed to record all five parts at the same time on the one remaining track.
Keith has got a band of his own called Third Stone and does the lead-vocals as well as the guitars. You can have a look and listen by visiting Third Stone at MySpace. It's great!
I was there! Fantastic to have a REAL Mellotron played live! But WHY did Rod leave it to the session guy to play the "fills" at the end of the verse? There's NO piano on the original! Still, WHADDA CONCERT!!!!!
I agree he was a brilliant keyboard player and got the "feel" for all those Mellotron parts just right - esp on Hung Up On A Dream. Sorry, what I meant was he was clearly a "guest" for the night. Rod said that he played Mellotron for Brian Wilson - is this true? Was it a real Mellotron? Or the Memotron he used with the Zombies? And was it for Brian's Smile album performed live?
oh yeah, just check out Brian's recent stuff, Darian is a very important part of bring his old sound back, and without his help, I highly doubt Smile would have ever been finished.
He really understands Rods playing style. I don't think I could tell which of the two were playing if I could not see it on the video. I saw an interview where Darian praised O and O as a major influence on his music, so I think he has loved these songs for a long time.
great singing -40 years on- i am in awe; a mature album for 22 year old guys then; they seem to be right age for singing these songs now, about being older and wise and having survived
Thank you! My husband filmed. It was the first time he did this and I was really happy with the result. We were lucky to sit in 6th row (not center seats though) which was pretty close to the stage.

I was surprised to see Keith Airy singing. I can't quite hear his pitch- Any idea what parts he was singing?
nhbright 4 years ago
Difficult to say. But I think he's singing together with Colin. I guess we'll have to wait for the release of the DVD to sort this out.

Is there definitely a DVD on its way? Got to own it if there is; best gig I've ever seen.

According to the book Hung up on a Dream both Hugh Grundy and Paul Atkinson sang on this song as a last effort of group harmony during recording.
