  • Damn, I watched this vid over 100 times. This is illegal!!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!

  • i would loved to play on this with chris and foley man i can't wait till im in college and even colder

  • stupid!!!!

  • @quedurance1 You are lmao

  • Personally, after hearing this a few (hundred) times, I really like how the sax player fit in with this. It's definitely not something everyone would put over this, but then again who only wants to hear exactly what you'd expect?

  • Why is everyone hating on the sax player, I thought he sounded good. :|

  • Fuckn' freakin' amazing!!!!!

  • I don't know if Foley dug this dude on alto much!

  • @Guitfiddlejase the alto dude was filling in. i feel like once they started going that dude had a crash course in rhythmic feel. i think the dynamic was, "this guy is technically insane... now lets show him how much better our feel is." once dave and foley start to turn it on it's like their saying "ya, you just ain black enough for this bud."

  • @flamingbalsac1 yeah! I found that out on another post from this show...pretty crazy that he was filling in and got as far as he did huh???

I know what you mean about "Feel" though...sometimes,he seems a little lost in the headlights.Kudos to him for standing up there with these dudes and playing at all.

I would kill for the opportunity to play with these two!

  • @flamingbalsac1 Alto player feels good to me. Fuck the idea of being 'black enough' for a type of music. He went hard once these guys gave him an opportunity to, and was respectful of the bond that chris and foley clearly share.

  • @jbowers56 the alto player is really good, no doubt. but i think it feels like foley and dave try to put him in his place a bit. both of them (especially dave) are strait gansta, and they just wanna show him whats up. i cant remember if its this tune or another from this show where dave actually yells "play hard.... like play HARD and shit!" they just want him to loosen up.

  • I am addicted!!!!

  • I love but GAAWD THAT BASS PLAYER WAS JUST STANK! I SMELLED THE FUNK ON HIS FINGERS. WOOH!

  • THis is sooo awesome! Beyond groove!!

  • chris daves one of the best in the game.....who else do u know can play a 19 inch ozone as a hihat...lol

  • Love to see Adam Rogers with these guys! Would be sick!

  • Damn, I love the stuff they play and how "out" it is. But man, once they go into an easy groove to follow it's soooooo tight!

  • 2:36!!!!!! DIG IT.

  • He has achieved a different kind of success. Not monetary success but the advancement of the craft and the formation of his own distinctive style. And If I understand what your argument is, thenChris Dave is just like justin bieber in that Chris Dave is a Superstar in the drum world.

  • @moto1049 at least Justin gets the girls

  • I think the drummer is playing the wrong beat, it sounds like a mess. He needs to learn how to play in time

  • @TehWinnerz you dont know shit about music do you?

  • @Midnightpitbull2 no need to swear buddy. I studied music for four years at one of the top music schools so I do. It's just, like, my opinion man. I've played with better drummers than this. Just sounds like he's losing his place all the time and playing loud just to cover his mistakes

  • @TehWinnerz it ashamed they never taught you time signatures in those four years. chris dave never loses time through out this video and if you havn't noticed he's playing really intricate rhythms too.

  • @Midnightpitbull2 if intricate = wrong then I think you're the one who needs some musical training pal

  • @TehWinnerz ............... you are perhaps one of the stupidest people i have ever had the displeasure to argue with.

  • @Midnightpitbull2 yeah well you can go and think I'm stupid but I'm the one with the degree in music brother. And I know someone just trashing around on the drums rather than fools like you who think that it's actually meant to be like that. I laugh at you!

  • @TehWinnerz dude either way you still obviously don't understand basic time signatures so i don't know if your degree is actually valid....

  • @Midnightpitbull2 prove me wrong and I will accept. I've admitted I'm wrong many times before.

  • @TehWinnerz okay you're right. chris dave is a horrible drummer

  • @Midnightpitbull2 ha! I knew you were just trollin' mate!

  • @TehWinnerz yeahh I'm the troll.....whatever you say

  • Comment removed

  • @Midnightpitbull2

Chris Dave is average, at best.

    j/k

  • @TehWinnerz Pretentious. "i got a degree in music so I'm a critic of youtube videos of people who are more successful."

  • @moto1049 well, Justin Bieber is successful but that doesn't mean he's good. Stop liking things just because you think you're meant to

  • @moto1049 It's SOOOOO Obvious TehWinnerz is a troll...lolol

  • @TehWinnerz

The four years you studied at school, was that in middle school, did you have to repeat a grade ?

  • @PositivelyBored no, don't be rude. I got really good marks. No need to be a douche.

  • @TehWinnerz WOW!!! You just made me laugh...if you knew who Chris played for you wouldn't be saying this comment because the gigs he's played require him to be extremely solid and he's known for his innovative sense of time and pocket which isn't proven in this vid but when he's playing for artists like,Eryikah Badu,Maxwell,Kenny Garrett,Pat Metheny just to name a few he's solid. Heck he was even featured on the front cover of Modern Drummer Magazine.

    He's quite the seasoned musician.....

  • @Moog167 who? I've never heard of Keny Garrett. But I do at least 2 or gigs a week so I'm seasoned too

  • @TehWinnerz LOL 2 gigs a week huh? Cool Story Bro....Google is your best friend just take the time to google Kenny Garrett...you'll see he won grammys and played sax for people like Miles Davis....

  • @Moog167 he sounds pretty bad too. Not sure about you people here. Listen to some real saxophone like Snake Davis

  • @TehWinnerz You sound alone here....I'll pass up your offer lolol I'll listen to saxman by the lonely island because he's been playing at the age of 2 weeks old. Jack Black said so.

  • @Moog167 Now Jack Black is a musician I can relate to

  • @TehWinnerz Epic Harmonies Right? :D

  • @Moog167 something like that?? were you just trolling about Chris Dave then? you seem like a guy who knows some stuff? It's pretty funny that all these people think he's great?!????

  • @TehWinnerz actually I think Chris is a great musician....he doesn't sound like everybody else....plus he grooves hard when he chooses to. His resume speaks volumes about him as a musician as well.

If you don't like him fine....but I dig his playing. If the people at Modern Drummer magazine gave him a front cover scoop and he's featured on drummerworld...yeah who are you to say he sucks when the majority says he's a skilled player?

I was trolling along with you BTW.

  • @TehWinnerz snake davis huh? umm.....ok.

  • FOLEY!

  • This is so cool! Chris Dave has forever changed the way I approach the drums!

  • Lol... I couldn't remember the name.

  • coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • it's just so nasty

  • Where is their tour schedule?

  • its like the roots and john zorn haha....sick

  • 2:57 has got to be the coolest rhythm I have ever heard.

  • this is so fresh, not one single person has disliked this

  • it aint dead

  • sax not quite up to it but foley & chris make up for it!

  • Gee, this has totally wrecked my head !!! i only just got the damn Miles version down !!! This is a bit like a modern day Ornette Coleman type vehicle.

  • Best live clip on youtube.

  • Miles has him taught well too, GMF!:)

  • My God

Foley is crazy but then again so is Chris Dave

  • man that drummer is insane! i wish he had some tom toms though haha.

  • Super!

  • So sick!

  • How do they do it? ¿Cömo hacen?

  • sax sucks

  • @shah2088 I guess Gary Thomas was supposed to play but he couldn't make it that night, haha.

  • Comment removed

  • i can't fuckin breathe.

  • Chris Dave is so great....real awsome drummer....BUT STILL THERE IS NO NUMBER ONE CLEAR BEST....DO THE RESEARCH

  • finally this music has a band to play it!

  • Didn't Foley used to play bass in the Roots?

  • @SANEDrummer ha ha you're mixing him up with Hub (Leonard Hubbard)

  • what happened to the tune?? i guess i like the original version too much

  • listen to the chris's right leg at 4:30. jesus...

  • @drumsandivory He's Filthy

  • look how Chris Dave looks when he is playing....real smooth, like he and the musical vibe are in100pct sync...this is sick!!!!

  • these guys make the perfect combination, they should hook up that sax player with a permanent spot.

  • i love how he's got a completely relaxed facial expression even when his chops are insane.

  • Man Zen (the sax Guy) was asked to play at the last minute. he had to quickly sight read the tunes then play the gig. Fucking mad man!

  • his playing wasn't that out, come on guys!

  • i feel sorry for the person on sax

  • @jazzperc2..... Dude! The Sax is right on man.... Ear Training, Ear Training....!!!!

  • @Jeii3000 I know, im saying this guy kicks ass. there were a lot of clowns dissing him below. I dig it a lot. his solo reminds me a lot of ornette.

  • dude, what the hell is wrong with the sax players playing? Sure, it's out. Really out. But maybe being harmonically correct wasn't the idea. I thought he sounded badass. 2:20-3:30 is fucking intense.

  • This is insane!!!!! LOVE IT!

  • amazingggggggggggggg

  • 7:20 - 7:24, goddammit that is so awesome

  • this gig must have been torture for the sax player. poor guy. chris dave and foley more than make mup for it though.

  • @MrPan222 he doesnt kno the song...

  • wow...amazing musicians

  • i've been watching this for months and cant get enough. foley eats this shit up!!

  • @LombardMarketing like a hungry toilet. everyone in these videos are just monstarrrrs

  • my god! foley eats this shit up!!!

  • this is so amazing

  • this is soooooo sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I an SO glad someone pulled this tune out. This is from on of Miles' funkiest records.

  • fuck not only is chris amazing but his bass buddy!

  • LOL, that's the one & only Foley from Miles Davis' band

These are Foley's arrangements. I have another version

of this with long time Prince drummer Michael Bland playing You should check out Foley's channel "SmartalecFILMS" There's alot more cool stuff on there

  • Is it just me or has foley, uh... put on some weight? I barely recognize him!

  • hats are:

18" HHX O-zone crash top (with some percussion attached)

18" AA (or AAX) El sabor crash (maybe hand crash).

    not 100% sure tho

  • i dont think they are. his right side crash is a HHX o-zone 20" and his left side is a legacy ride (not sure on size). the hats i think are his own creation. they've just been given rivet holes but the holes have been filled with spinnerets. They're no bigger than 16" though.

  • My comment was for "thescoon1" LOL

    that was a real PRO-TIP

  • Those r O-zone hi hats fam....

  • Chris Dave is playing two snare drums (one as a floor tom) and congas as his rack tom-toms along with raggedy cymbals as a hi hat. Interesting.

  • and bongos not congas

  • Thank you...

  • @fnkdrmmr 3 snare drums theres one to his left too

  • Protip: If you are sweating like mad on stage, don't wear a big hoodie.

  • LOL , just what I thought YOU MUST be a bassplayer.

Don't hate bro. unless you can post better bass skills

or something as interesting as this clip

  • your stupid

  • what kind of hi hats ARE thoes!! pause at 4:12 to see em, i know he didnt stack two ozones together haha

  • I gotta reiterate- Zhenya literally found out he was doing the two dates at Charlie Wright's about an hour after Chris and Foley landed in the UK. He did a great job of a mammoth task; you try hanging with these guys without any homework!

  • Looks like it's a girl on sax.

  • yep

  • I like that Foley uses the slap technique - there are too many bassists that spurn it IMO, but it really works when you know how to use it. People have gotten on the alto player, but I think he's a good fit with this group. When he plays the tunes, you can hear them. He's not super flashy soloist and you can hear him make mistakes in this clip, but that's actually a GOOD thing! Humans make mistakes, machines don't. Artists know how to rebound and make something good out of them.

  • this is like the 10th time i've watched this vid today..... i cant stop lol its to good

  • Yeah if the sax player got a few more rehersals in before the gig it'd be on point. But the groove from 2:21 is HEAVY

  • he was actually a house sax player and had to step in at the last minute. He's not a full time part of the trio.

  • Man, Chris is crazy around the set!! Nice sax, i'd like to see what my man Mike Phillips is able to do with that group!!!

  • Man.

  • theres nothing id rather be watching right now

  • This is too fkn crazy man.

Foley and Daddy are so on point with the time. My head naturally starts bobbin to a tempo that I find in the song. But I know they're on a totally different one. I can't find it though :\

  • damn the sax player couldnt keep up at the end. it was still killer tho.
