  • That's why Kellogg's had to give Daws Butler screen credit for his "Snagglepuss" Cocoa Krispies commercials {"Snagglepuss' voice by Daws Butler"}, so that Lahr wouldn't sue them for "vocal theft"...and that's the ONLY time a voice actor ever received ongoing screen credit in commercials! Eventually, Lahr himself began appearing in commercials; he pitched Lay's from 1964 through his death in '67.

  • Bert Lawh wasn't happy to have Snagglepuss advertising Kellgos cereal when Lahr was still alive, since both were cowardly lions.

  • This was originally seen in color (from a black and white kinescope copy), and was usually paired with a 40 second Pepsi commercial [PepsiCo still owns Frito-Lay]...and was one of Bert's final Lay's ads before his death at the end of the year. As for "MALIBU U.", that was a brief summer musical series on ABC's Friday night schedule [8:30-9pm(et)], hosted by Rick Nelson {"The Dean"}, featuring several guest performers taped at various outdoor locations {"The Campus"} around Malibu, California.

  • Mr. Bert Lahr -- aka the Cowardly Lion from "The Wizard of Oz" -- as the Devil, for Lay's Potato Chips.

And after the break that's Rick Nelson. Not familiar with the "Malibu U." show.
