I liked this song the 1st time I heard it in Valley Girl in the 80s. Then my girl bailed off to college a million miles away. I couldn't listen to it for a long time. But I got a new now. Jams
A sultry summer night. Powering down the freeway on my chopper. This tune playing in my head. I miss SoCal. Nothing out there today touches this one -- nothing.
@shadowmary1212 Absolutly! Not when it came out, but years later, when I was in the military and made friends with a guy from California. I mostly listened to county and pop, and he told me, "When you musicaly mature you will like this type of music." He was right! Just look at my Favs on my Channel. See any Country?
The Smithereens, Concrete Blonde, The Fixx, X, The Cramps, Iggy Pop, The Clash, The Jam, The Plimsouls. Yeah, MTV during the first two years (when it was still good).
KING TONE! Summer, two in the Am, two wheels, boots high on the pegs, a flash of chrome under streetlights, powering onto a freeway onramp -- a million miles away.
Met Peter Case after his concert at Kalamazoo State Theater in the early 90's. He was so cool! Talked to him for a while about the music scene in Kazoo, and other things. I always thought he could have been a huge success with his vocals and song writing. He captured the early 80's sound and had some great songs. I wore out so many cassettes from this! Still like that idiot movie "Valley Girl" because they were playing at the bar. Totally! I think (know) Nicholas Cage was in it. Good fun.
The era of the 1980's - the message of every song was sometimes bubblegum, sometimes stirring to the sensitive hearts of teens who faced so uncertain a future. It was NOT play tested on demographically pre-programmed purchasing public . . . like today's ghetto glorifying or Lady Gaga whore worshiping tripe.
Total coolness!!! But you'd have to be cool to remember that! And now that I think about it we were all cool back then even if we didn't know it!!!!!!!!!!
A Million Miles Away - The Plimsouls [Los Angeles, California] - 1982 - "A minor HIT. Peter Case (v.) at his BEST." - Destination Bomp (Disc 1)-1994. NOTE: Even the musical wasteland that was the '80s did offer up a few beacons of hope, and LA power-poppers the Plimsouls were one of them. Granted, they're primarily known for one song, "A Million Miles Away".
First started hearing this song on late night Boston radio when I was doing the midnight Philadelphia to 'Beantown' run. Didn't matter how sleepy I was, this song always woke me up. The Plimsouls would be shredding the speakers in that old puppydawg (Thats a Mack truck for all you civilians). Cant believe it only made it to #82!
LONG LIVE THIS S#@T! Oh, those days of big hair, shaved on one side and as many pieces of leather as one could wear. My teenager looks at me like I'm nuts when I, his MOTHER, rock out to my music, but he has it on his ipod, so.......hee hee it WILL live on.
@KOSMICKEN09 reminds me of a girl who passed on 30 years ago, been reaching out to her every time I hear this since...great song.."totally" reminds me of my beach childhood, genuine valley dude
This tune peaked at only number 82??
hard to beleive it didn't peak lower as I remember it getting a LOT of airplay on the radio in Detroit back in 1983!!??
