Steve Rothery and Diz Minnitt played live together for the first time in 29 years as The Granmarstonberries in September 2011 - sadly this wasn't on the set list , but an excellent version of Comfortably Numb was! Still miss this song nice to see Mick still doing it - always a great track.
Hear hear! I watched this last week at Progeny 3 and it was a surreal experience. It was a really good show and took me right back to the original. They are simply recreating something a lot of people would love to see again - this is the closest you are ever going to get.Nobody has more right than Mick Pointer as founder member of Marillion.
MAGIC THE GATHERING SONG -Raveyard- Its a aggrotech song about magic the gathering. With real nerdy lyrics-. Go to my profile to listen to it. Its the top video. CHECK IT OUT ;)
Actually, Mick looks quite like Fish did 25 years ago. It's a pity Fish doesn't. Never really knew why they got rid of Mick, he wasn't a bad drummer (lets face it - the Beatles didn't get rid of Ringo!)
He has at least a foot on top of him, and during the RECITAL OF THE SCRIPT concert (Which is the main inspiration for this whole new tour), FISH was as skinny as a twig.
They got rid of Mick Pointer, because Fish and him had a massive argument because Pointer couldn't read musical notation... Not much of a loss though, Mosley has 10 times the drumming prowess of Pointer.
I think it's a bit sad that the original Marillion drummer has resorted to this debacle. It's pathetic - move on!!!
And Nick Barrett, (on lead guitar), he should stick to his own band, Pendragon, their last album 'Pure' was actually very good, I'm suprised he needs to do this.
Why don`t use your energy in make your own music???? it`s better be yourself and take tha risk of fail than be ridicolous playing others role.........
Go see the show, its fantastic. A moment in time captured forever, that neither Fish and his band or Marillion could as good as this, thats a fact, Fishs voice has matured and couldnt sing these parts, and Steve Hogarth couldnt do grendel
You say Marillion could not do it this good, they done it 1st you muppet, this is some cheap copy, how can you say its better than the real Marillion, you talk utter crap.
i referred to fish an his band, couldnt do it this much justice, and nor the current line up of Marillion, whilst the music would sound goog Steve Hogarth could not sing the majority of the lyrics with anywhere near as much venom. So it is something neither 'camp' wants to do or will do again, so my point is this is all we have, and its damn good
look... Mike delivers correctly. Has a great sound, and is not self indulgent like the Portnoy guy who, to me, is frankly boring and unmusical. Pendragon, Arena and this thing.... thats my cup of tea.
What a fuckin STUPID comment!!! Without that 'talentless drummer' ther wouldn't be that Prog band in the first place you prick!!!
And eminate would be quite painful I imagine? Try recreating a moment in time which HE created that fans who can't hear this stuff any more can have good time to?
No nerve hit here fella, it's just idiots like you totally miss my point and you just proved it. Whether you like him or not, without Mick you wouldn't have your beloved Marillion in the first place so a little respect is in order me thinks.
And as for growing up? I'll call it like I see it or maybe its OK if I write it like this? PRxxCK ;-)
nick barrett is a fine guitarist and is finally getting the recognition (PENDRAGON-Pure) that he so deserves. Rothery on the other hand was once a relevant musician. too bad he let Hogarth (who's a royal "ice cream genius" pussy) take over Marillion..i mean have you heard a decent shred or wail on a Marillion album since Brave?Rothery, do yourself a favor and get back with FISH. your serotonin level will rise, the weight will come off naturally from the marathon shows and sold out tours!
Yeah, because weight determines a guitar player's worth. And Barrett is playing Rothery's material here, so he either 1) Enjoys Steve's playing or 2) Is a complete mercenary. Somehow, I think Mr. Barrett would find your form of enthusiasm for his playing leaves much to be desired. The whole "who's better, who's best" argument is old, tired and stupid. Both have contributed much as musicians. Seriously.....he's playing in a Marillion tribute band here...get a grip.
Cala, the whole cabouche was based around Genesis music circa 72/73; The tragic banging you hear is an attempt at Apocalypse in 9/8. For those of us who witnessed it live back in about 1980, this version compares favourably.
I knew Mick when he lived at Brill; used to play wearing some stunning purple underpants and eff all else. Blotted his copybook by knobbing Steph, who ran The Web, and was married to one of the founder members (none of whom, by the way, lasted as long as Mick!) Affable fella, we had some great times over in Oxford catching stuff like Hawkwind and the like.
I saw them two times last year in Germany and all of them made a great job! They give us the feeling of a real Marillion gig from the early eighties! All visitors were hooked! In 2009 they return, don´t pass it! Erik from Germany
What the fuck is this! A bunch of ageing prog-rock wannabe's raping one of Marillions finest tracks.Pointer was an ok drummer for them at that point in their development, but they developed so quickly as writers and as performers,Micks playing was simply not up to scratch, and judging from this dire rendition,it still isnt!
I completely agree with RPZ... this is fookin awful. Mick Pointer was part of Marillion at some point and I loved what he did then. But now he has completely raped one of the best songs ever.
Oh for goodness sake, leave the guy alone. At least he can get up on stage and do what he enjoys doing, which is more than can be said for some people. I'm getting the impression that most of these are just slagging Mick off for the sake of it because they're Fish fans. This isn't the school yard. If you knew the guy then you would see my point of view.
Now now you two, not on a public forum. As for my two cents seeing as I was on the road crew for the tour, how do you think your voice would sound after keeping up that pitch and power for 12 nights in a row?

err, bedroom player? I played for 6 years in a Genesis tribute band, done a world record in drumming and many other things so...Also, there is plenty of comments about my drumming on the vids, if you'd bothered actually reading them! If you don't like me, or my opinion, fine, one cannot please everyone. If you are a Pointer fan, sorry, did not mean to offend you. Just my personal opinion, to which I am entitled. Peace
Full-on re-enactment though!

...and what has "being a girl" got to do with drumming? I am a drummer, plain and simple! Gender is irrelevant.

Not sure about the keys either...
And the drumming is way too non precise, all over with loads of dodgy fills...shame really.
