When I bought my 2002 Insight new, gasoline here in Texas was $1.25. Back then the SUV craze was in full swing. Nobody wanted those little high mileage cars. I still have mine today, and never had one days worth of buyers remorse.
I remember going to look at one of these with my cousin back in 02 when they came out! So futuristic and cool. Some people down the street still have one and its cool too see it driving around.
@PhreshNBeat Yup, Clarity is an awesome car. Finding one is problem #1, it's price, & finding a hydrogen fuel station. We're just not ready for it yet sadly :(
This and the Civic for awhile were the only hybrids to offer a manual (that I know of). Now I believe the CR-Z is the only one. I'm no fan of hybrids but Honda does deserve credit for trying to deviate from everybody else. GM did the same thing with EV1 but apparently decided the program wasn't profitable and killed it off. I believe almost all the EV1s were crushed.
From the late 90s to 2005, everyone wanted huge SUVs. When gas prices shot through the roof for the first time in 05, was when people started appreciating fuel economy.
@Lexuslover123 Just because it has a 3 cylinder engine doesn't make it a piece, it's makes it a marvel of performance engineering, i say this because this car is by no means lacking in performance.
It looks like an acceptable car to get from point A to B but it's probably going to get uncomfortable on long trips. I think an AM/FM cassette is pretty dissapointing for this year. I think only Hyundai and Kia had them in 2001. Interior does look plasticky and cheap. But at least it's good on gas and for running small errands. The window stitches are oddly located. I think it reminds me of the base model Chevrolet Metro, with basically the same engine with a battery in it.
The new Insights are much better, the CR-Z took the Insight 2-seaters place. But the new insight seats 5 and allows you to haul other people without worrying about fuel economy.
These easily achieve 70 MPG highway, and there are videos on YouTube to prove it. If someone did swap the engine this car would be a real sleeper, as it is pretty light.
@2004NissanSentra Yeah LOL, people in the past just didn't respect these. For a few yrs, there was a time that you didn't see them anymore but until gas spiked up to $5, they all creeped out again.
