I just started going to the gym but Im looking to build solid muscle and not lose fat at all. I am a martial artist and I actually train at American Top Team but I need to pack some muscle. In fact, im probably one of the lightest dudes in my gym -_- Any advice on how to work out to gain solid muscle mass? maybe tips on food or anything. Thanks

  • @jimmysmithtraining yes i do

  • @johnthescreamer Give me a brief background please.

  • @jimmysmithtraining Hey Jimmy my name is Ryan and I am a serious MMA athlete, the only weird thing is im only 16 years old with a record of 2-1. I also wrestle for my high school and weigh around 155lbs. My schedule for my daily training is wrestling 3:30-5:15 and MMA 5:30-9:00. What should I be eating its my dream to go into the UFC and I wanna be the best of the best

  • @war2234 Where were your 3 fights? What organizations?

  • @war2234 Well Depends on what weight class you wanna compete in, and wether you wanna lose or gain weight. Iam middleweight i eat 6 Small meals a day My training schudle Monday: Boxing 2 Hours Tuesday: BJJ 2 Hours Wednesday: Boxing 2 Hours Thursday: BJJ 2 Hours Friday: Kicks 3 Hours Saturday: Strenght and condition 1,5 Hours Sunday: off I stretch every single day. You should have something like this, if you want to be successfull train in single diciplines.
  • @Thesenseoftouchc Monday wed and fri Kickboxing for 1 hour then BJJ for 2 hours and fight team for 1 more hour and tues and thurs conditioning for 1 1/2 hours and bjj for another 2 with fight team for 1 more hour and sat conditioning for 1 1/2 hours and fight team for 2. I wanna gain around 20lbs of muslce

  • @war2234

Gaining muscle is not as easy as people think. What is ur current weight? do you hold alot of fat?

Since your activity lvls are high, you need to time your bodyweight in pound by 22 thats how many calories you need daily to gain weight. 20 lbs of pure mass could take 2 years. And you need to follow a diet that gives the amount of calories you need and 1,5 gram protein per pound bodyweight that way you can gain mass. but you will always gain fat and water aswell

  • @Thesenseoftouchc im 160lbs with around 7% body fat and i tend to eat around 4000-5000 calories mostly all veggies rice beans etc

  • @war2234 Well that can't be true, you need to count your calories you can use fitday.com

its a free website to count protein carbs etc.. Eating 4000-5000 at your current bodyweight you would have been at 15% + BF

  • @Thesenseoftouchc @war2234. Counting calories is not optional for proper nutrition. Start viewing foods for their nutrition value and not their macrnonutrients. @war2234, I emailed you back to help you with your diet but never heard back. I'd honestly suggest you add some more starched in. 4000 calories without them would be tough and quite frankly, not that fun.

  • @jimmysmithtraining If you don't count Kcal and protein, carbs etc.. Then you don't know if your body is getting enough of everything to grow. If you got the number down then you are you can grow, but guessing is the worst thing i know

  • @Thesenseoftouchc Completely off base. A calorie isn't a calorie. A calorie from fat has substantially different effects then a calorie from carbs etc etc. I'm not saying to guess, I just don't have advise calorie counting. Let's say your at 3000 calories per day but aren't losing weight, where does the adjustment come from? You end up shorting yourself by chopping your kcals to 2500, let's say, when you should rather cut your carbs by a certain amount.

  • @Thesenseoftouchc Your body can't recognize calories. It's not like it says "hmm 3000 calories", no it doesn't. Your processes happen based on your fat, carb, protein and fiber amount and the micronutrients contained within them.

  • @jimmysmithtraining No it does not but if it gets the right amount you will grow. And i was talking about carbs and protein and fat aswell. so i can put on lean mass on 1000 calorie diet? is that ur teori. NO i need the right amount of everything for my body to grow. If your an Ecto you time your BMR by 22 or 20 thats the amount of calories you need to grow

  • Is it true if you eat 2-3 hours you actually burn fat or lose weight? Because on part 4:46 in the video jimmy said that if you want to lose eat 2-3 hours a day.

  • @vhira While metabolism is more complex then to shut down every 2-3 hours if you miss a meal I feel for fighters and anyone doing a good amount of work that it is necessary.

  • @jimmysmithtraining Gday man. Im just wondering. Im in the 6foot 170 pounds Cat. About 8percent bodyfat naturally. So I dont really have to workout to get muscle etc etc.Which I know a lot of people strive for. But I was just wondering about a nutrition diet/reshime, that you could direct me towards. That can fully lean down my upper body as much as possible....mainly my biceps, but still keep a good solid strong foundation on the lower body. (which is harder to keep muscle on) Cheers!

  • @vhira yes but it doesnt mean that if you suff your face with chocolate it still applies, it has to be good food.

  • whats your opinion on vegetarian mma fighters

  • @fromstart2finish I don't like it. Most of the hardcore vegetarian followers and advocates got to that point because they DIDN'T follow a vegan diet yet they switch to it and proclaim that it's the best.

  • @fromstart2finish Vegetarian fighters are people that 99% of the time ate too much, got fat then read something about how meat is bad. They cut out meat, thus a large source of calories. They lost weight so being vegan must work. In short, it's bs.

  • @jimmysmithtraining

My thoughts exactly. Imo its not for everyone and i dont think its all that healthy.

  • @jimmysmithtraining i think jake shields would argue with you there

  • @jimmysmithtraining .........different stuff works for different people. I know you're not that naive.

  • @jimmysmithtraining what about Bill Pearl? Bodybuilder and supporter of an ovo-lacto diet

  • So whats your take on the Paleo diet for overall performance? I know Forrest Griffin and Glen Cordoza are a couple of fighters who seem to be doing well on it.

  • @sclaysdharma I don't like it. For health it rocks but you need slightly more starchy carbs for MMA.

  • @jimmysmithtraining Saying it rocks for health, but you don't like it seems a little contradictory. Its my understanding is that you just up your tuber/sweet potato post workout.. Could you be more specific on what type and how much carbs you are referring to.

  • @sclaysdharma I'd prefer my MMA clients to have more starches in general. How many depends on the activity and size of the individual but 200 grams is about right.

  • @jimmysmithtraining Seems a little high to me unless you are an endurance athlete. I know GSP goes low-carb when he is getting close to a fight and I think Sean Sherk tested positive for steroids at least once, so I am not sure if they are good examples of the point you are trying to make. I found that once my body adjusted to burning fat and protein for energy, I ended up with better body comp and strength to weight ratio. I have tryed both approaches and that was my result.

  • a diet of the food i have to eat proteins calories

  • hey do you have like a diet that tou can give me to make more weight im tall and skinny 135 pounds i want to be 155 or 160 pliz!

  • Hey, im 17 years old, im about 6'3 maybe 6'4 and weigh 400 pounds (no bullshit lol) but im not the morbidlly obese type of fat, i can still move fast and strong, just poor cardio, i literally just this week started practicing MMA, how long would it be before i started losing weight?

  • @MustacheStashCash

Jesus christ 400lbs? You should start losing ALOT of weight in a few weeks. Exercise after you eat too.

  • @fromstart2finish that was months ago mate, im down to 310, been working out twice a day lol

  • Hey, I'm Only 16 years old But I have always been a Big guy, I was 6'3 280 pounds. I've Lost weight to about 215, But now I'm Not loosing anymore weight, I've Decreased my Calorie intake and Increased my Cardio Work,

I've Also been lifting Weights, But I have been about the same weight for about 2-3 weeks, Am I doing Something Wrong Or do you know what possibly The problem could be? Thank you

  • @hardfighter2 Try to add 1 rep per set for the next 2 weeks. Surefire way to get stronger.

  • @jimmysmithtraining Yeah. I agree.

  • @hardfighter2 Well, my bio teacher told me that muscle increases a hormone in your body which increases your metabolism meaning that less of your calorie gets wasted into fat. So don't judge if you're losing fat by your weight but judge by your clothing sizes. Jimmysmith is right, you'd want to do less weight and high reps so that u don't add extra bulk and gain weight. So do more toning exercises, you'll; enhance muscle, lose fat and increase metabolism. A win win situation.

  • @tasneefm The thing is that you want to add as much muscle as possible but you want it to be lean muscle. Scale weight is bad for MMA

  • help me please!!

Look im skinny and I could get use to any routine but IM to lazy and I love sweets and fat haha, is there any way to work on that, Its a dream for me to have a sixpack or at least a definned body, PLEASE HELP ME:

    Grettings from Ecuador.

  • @jeanpzavala Have you subscribed?

  • @jimmysmithtraining Yes I have

  • until you live the lifestyle. dont even bother

  • i weigh 200 and only eat 2200 cals a day

  • Funny how I lost some much muscle along with fat when I started my raw food diet. Including raw eggs, raw milk, and raw salmon. After 6 months in I began to see my muscles building back up. 8 months in I'm now hard and ripped. Didn't expect that.

  • i should make one of these videos too! i'm self taught when it comes to nutrition, but we have very similar topics when explaining it and i have additions for this. great video dude!

  • @gtghome Go for it and thank you for watching. Please subscribe.

  • yo Jimmy I used to be 275 at 5'6. I decided ti lose the weight fast or ass I call it biggest loser style(about 5 pounds a week). I reached 165 in about 7 months. and I started to bulk up because i wanted muscle. after watching cain vs brock I was amazed of his stamina and I want to be like just in case i ever get in some sort of fight. so I started working on my cardio, the problem my arms are smaller now and I dont want that. should I just more food?

  • @Gus589 Sadly, that's the trade off. You either get leaner or get bigger. Cycle your diet in mini-spruts and you'll see results.

  • thnks man its this kind of attention u give ur fans that makes me loyal subscriber

thanks to rest u guys peace jim

  • @sharpy82295 Thanks buddy!

  • For those new to Jimmy Smith. He said on thing very important. He walks the walk and talk the talk. If he talks about it he has done it. No BS here. Alot of on-line sourses talk about it but do they really do it? That is what you need to ask yourself.

  • im 15 man should i bench press more than half my weight or not?

    good video man

  • @sharpy82295 work into it , u shouldnt stress te joints ,try to go max 40kg ad high reps untill u get to 17 , or take joint suplements and push it , your choice

  • @sharpy82295 if your training for MMA and want to increase your power then find a weight that you can do 3-5 reps max. If your just looking to gain size then aim for 8-12 reps. Weight lifting will not stunt your growth or any of that bullshit.

  • @sharpy82295 Thanks buddy. Keep working!
