Some of you people need to get a grip, in the end its just music. A very nice song no mistake about it, but just a song, and Im sure the artists would thank you not to canonize them for writing a few pop songs. Its like Bob Dylan said when some over-zealous reporter was pushing him to add some kind of mystic value to his music... "Im just a song and dance man".. he was right.. and thats enough for me.

Absolutely beautiful Gabriel/Genesis song. I've been married for 20 years, with 5 kids, my wife planned our entire wedding but she let me pick the "wedding song." Of course, this was my pick. The band had to learn it from scratch because it's a bit obscure, but turned out great ! ! !

When I got home and listened to it, I was blown away...What musicians, what writers, what talent, what a band. Been listening to this song for almost 40 years now and it still blows me away with the way the sound is layered. I'm thinking this is a song about a sailor , his ship and the wind. He's sailed away from all he knows and loves to find a new love; the ship and the sea.

A lot of people think this is a love song, but I think it could be seen as a sailor's ode to the wind. The "you" in the song is the wind personified. If you look at it that way, the lyrics like "holding my hand, keep it way above the water" and "carrying me twice around the world" are much more literal.

Anyway, this isn't the worst song on W&W. Wot Gorilla is.

It is my opinion that song could have been much greater than it is. The chorus, in my opinion, lets the song down. The verse is so beautiful; simple and succinct, but quietly longing... Searching. It is, very suitably, like the wind drifting across a field. I think this was likely their intention, seeing as the album is called Wind & Wuthering and there are lyrics mentioning the wind. The chorus, however, leaves such an impression as to make people believe this is JUST a pop song. But it is not.
