Reminds me of my years at Castle AFB, home of the 93rd Bomb Wing. Coming in to work from Merced you could see a black cloud all around the base and surrounding areas. I wish you could see the BUFFs landing is rough weather by rookie pilots. Now that was a sight.
Just because the exhaust is visible doesn't mean they are creating more pollution then other jet engines, they are a low bypass engine and by nature tend to produce a more visible exhaust stream, not chemically any different. I am sure they would love some new engines or new airplanes. Not going to see that in the next 4-8 years. These are workhorses with lots of hours left in them.

Road to another section of the base on the base. Have to be on site and past guard gates to be on that road.

Planes with smokey Engines like this should be reengined or just taken out of service, its 2009 not 1960! MY OPINION

The Air Force wants to put new engines on the BUFF, but to reengine them would cost more than the Air Force could probably get to do that.
