It's a mess because half of our team has already played at full backs because we are lacking them. And even is such conditions Kos had several games this season when HE was all over the place. I won't agree. I rate Koscielny higher than Vermaelen. Verminator has some features that Kos hasn't which are vital for Arsenal but in a matter of just defending Kos is out of reach this season. Hic consistency at the highest level is amazing. Of course because of scoring so many goals RvP is considered as our best player this season. But for defender to shone is much more difficult. That's why for me Koscielny is Arsenal player of the season so far alongside Robin.

@batt18les Koscielny is a very clean player, he does everything very efficiently without mistakes (usually). But better than vermaelen? no way, its not a coincidence the defence always looks much better with vermaelen at the heart of it. As good as kos has been individually the defence has still been all over the place, that wouldnt happen if it was vermaelen, hes the one that organises and leads his teammates. Kos just does his own job and leaves it at that

I think those three would make an excellent back three, but I don't believe we have the personnel to fill the two wing-back/wide midfielder positions in a 3-4-3. It's a very demanding position which requires the pace, stamina and defensive ability of a full-back, but also the attacking play of a winger/attacking midfielder. Even if all our full-backs were available, only Santos fits the bill. Perhaps Ramsey as a RWB?

@ade25bayor The problem with a 3-4-3 formation is that against Swansea and Utd we were for the most part undone on the wings, with Dyer and Sinclair tearing up Miquel and Djourou, and then Nani and Valencia tearing up Djourou and to a lesser extent the Verminator. Removing the fullbacks isn't the solution to the problem, since that'd leave us completely exposed in that position and stretch the 3 centre backs far too much, unless you have wingers who can cover defensively, and we very much don't.

@adamobarca thats one of the problems that we're facing, unlike other teams where wingers track back, our wider players are hardly effective doing that. I'm sure all Gooners would agree to the fact that Vermaelen is our best defender as a CB. So, why not play all our best CB's together with Song as the holding midfielder. That way, we can also attack efficiently and also be effective on the counter since having 3 CBs makes it easier to employ the offside trap.
