if you have a good anti virus program you will be protected fairly well end of story. As for free Virus Scanners not worth the risk I used AVG Free for 1 day and I had enough of it CRAP CRAP CRAP OH AND DID I MENTION CRAP? I use Norton 360 V4.0 never had a problem even running limewire

Also LimeWire isnt great i did installed it in my computer and when i downloaded a music its pop ups me a trojan so i didnt recommand LimeWire its not secure !!!! I recommand uTorrent for torrent downloader. With mininova and isohunt to download safe torrent. Beware what u download (keygens,hacks....) can contain virus some times. So if u want another program also that look like LimeWire with uTorrent u can also download Blubster. Stay safe !!!!

Having more than 1 anti virus on your pc will make bsod and conflict each other i recommand Avast!. He is the only 1 that i see that he dont fail again html,script and more malicious thing on a Web. Now a dya there a lot hacked website which Avast! offer you to protect a lot with his Pro Version. So i recommand Avast! 4.8 Home/Pro. He got a lot shield and nice detection of virus.

Limewire is ok as long as you do the following things:

1. Never click on the first 10 results you get.

2. Never click on search results that match or contain your original search query EXACTLY.

3. Never download anything smaller than 2mb if your looking for a song or app.

4. Never download an app period, unless you have to, it's bigger than 500mb's, and in a zip file. Even then be careful! Run antivirus software in the background.

5. Don't download pron. (correct spelling)

I think it is ignorant to group all P2P networks as malicious or a danger to be avoided.

Skype is a P2P network. Many people recomend and use that. I also download many legal and illegal files from torrents mainly, and as long as you are smart about it, it is extremely easy to aviod any malicious content.

p2p on mac is pretty safe. Applications can be safely aquired via bittorrent. Knowing what and what not to do does not help shit when working on a IE running wintel. Most Vscanners are money hungry extortion scams that work pretty dismally. NORTON == bloated crap. McAfee == Useless bloated crap.

I run Linux and my P2P is Phex. I never really download anything I can get legally as it easier. I keep it for things I can not get here in the states. Never had a problem of viruses. Though Bit torrent I use it to download ISO images only so it's less then a problem.
