if you have a good anti virus program you will be protected fairly well end of story. As for free Virus Scanners not worth the risk I used AVG Free for 1 day and I had enough of it CRAP CRAP CRAP OH AND DID I MENTION CRAP? I use Norton 360 V4.0 never had a problem even running limewire
No, I mean't one that scans folders and automatically uses different Anti-Virus engines.
Keep in mind that VirusTotal automatically uses different Anti-Virus engines, (HouseCall, McAfee, Panda, etc.), VirusTotal is a All-In-Solution, meaning it uses Multi-Anti-Virus-Engines.
Also LimeWire isnt great i did installed it in my computer and when i downloaded a music its pop ups me a trojan so i didnt recommand LimeWire its not secure !!!! I recommand uTorrent for torrent downloader. With mininova and isohunt to download safe torrent. Beware what u download (keygens,hacks....) can contain virus some times. So if u want another program also that look like LimeWire with uTorrent u can also download Blubster. Stay safe !!!!
I did read news that say there are over 300,000 websites hacked. So beware guy while you surf the internet. Also Avast! Support Forum is containing a lot nice user to help you and in any way the users or ALWIL will help you.
Having more than 1 anti virus on your pc will make bsod and conflict each other i recommand Avast!. He is the only 1 that i see that he dont fail again html, script and more malicious thing on a Web. Now a dya there a lot hacked website which Avast! offer you to protect a lot with his Pro Version. So i recommand Avast! 4.8 Home/Pro. He got a lot shield and nice detection of virus.
Also Avast! 4.8 Home/Pro + Malwarebytes Free/Full + Windows Defender + 2 Ways Firewall of your choice is great.
avast runs 7 full time resident protection scans and has an internet scanner that scans and if necessary disconnects anything inbound or outbound from your computer.
to sum it up in one word..
BITCHIN!!!!!!!!!
also i have 3 antivirus programs on my pc all running 24/7 and have never had any conflicts.
avast
avg free
avira
and for like the first 20 min after i bought my pc a free trial of norton 360
sometimes chris sounds like a n00b .. P2P is great when it is used properly .. if you use TPB or something you will most likely get virus from an exe .. but .. if you pay to use private torrents when you can download from people you trust then P2P is safe !
limewire is great for music.. when you download a song make sure you can get a song PREVIEW after it downloads maybe 10 percent of the song.. if it dont its 99% of the time a virus.. most people are just stupid tho when they use it
i think a cheese grater is much more painful for the user, unless there is a deep sentimental attachment to the computer to the point of physical pain
i had á virus infection with limewire once.. and there really is some bad files in limewire, trust me.. Got the newest virus (back then, it was very new) and it was pretty difficult to get rid of.
porn, p2p, and stupidity are the leading casues to virus's. When i say stupididty I mean you see a pop up that says download this program to make your computer 1000 times faster. We all no thats impossible.
Torrents, bot unsafe in anyway, don't download files that are odd sizes, don't download songs or movies that aren't in media formats... and run an anti-virus just in-case. not hard at all. :D
Well as long as you have 1IQ point you will never get a virus off of limewire, Microsoft Office wont be 256kb and "adult videos" wont be in exe format
Limewire is ok as long as you do the following things:
1. Never click on the first 10 results you get.
2. Never click on search results that match or contain your original search query EXACTLY.
3. Never download anything smaller than 2mb if your looking for a song or app.
4. Never download an app period, unless you have to, it's bigger than 500mb's, and in a zip file. Even then be careful! Run antivirus software in the background.
If you are to stupid to use it, than it is your problem. I use torrents, lots of my friends use it and non of us never had any problem. If you like paying for stuff or have moral issues I respect that. But torrents do not suck, torrents rock.
Build P2P PC which will run torrent client 24/7 and read comments, also try to use private trackers and you will not have problem with viruses. Why would you pay up to 2000$ for software, if you do not use it commercially. Chris is talking rubbish.
Also you can run Limewire and torrent clients in virtual machine. Scan files inside virtual machine, and than put it on your primary OS. And you are 100% free of viruses.
I think it is ignorant to group all P2P networks as malicious or a danger to be avoided.
Skype is a P2P network. Many people recomend and use that. I also download many legal and illegal files from torrents mainly, and as long as you are smart about it, it is extremely easy to aviod any malicious content.
this has to be a joke..chris would u rather running your face alongside a cheese grater or run limewire..i think we all know the answer..worst 2 examples ever
Just don't download anything that isn't from a trusted website. If a friend sends you something, ask what it is before accepting the file. Use common sense, and you WONT get a virus.
p2p on mac is pretty safe. Applications can be safely aquired via bittorrent. Knowing what and what not to do does not help shit when working on a IE running wintel. Most Vscanners are money hungry extortion scams that work pretty dismally. NORTON == bloated crap. McAfee == Useless bloated crap.
BitDefender is the best I have seen, but there is still some stuff AVG will detect that BitDefender will not and vice versa, so running both is often necessary when removing a virus.
I agree that BitDfender is the best but i don't like the scanning...it's takes for ever!!! it even says that ''u might want to scan your cpu when you go outside to eat or ect.) LOL
i use norton internet security 2008 and ad-aware 2007.
limewire SUCKS. i used to have it and on every search it came up with this gay "my fellow americans" thing and this fake internet explorer toolbar that nobody wants. besides i use itunes because its better quality music and your garunteed to find the music you want on there.
I use Limewire, just don't download the files named Kick Ass Techno Song.mp3.exe and you'll be fine... Also preview the mp3, and if it's not previewing, cancel the download because it's a fake. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!
The only anti-virus program I run is fully conformant UNIX based Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard built on Mach 3.0 and FreeBSD.
As for a cheese grater on my face or running LimeWire. I'd have to go with LimeWire, but I'd much prefer Azureus to either. If I could have that as a choice.
I run Linux and my P2P is Phex. I never really download anything I can get legally as it easier. I keep it for things I can not get here in the states. Never had a problem of viruses. Though Bit torrent I use it to download ISO images only so it's less then a problem.
i think a cheese grater is much more painful for the user, unless there is a deep sentimental attachment to the computer to the point of physical pain
