This is from the 1967 LA TRAVIATA film with Anna Moffo.
That was a great opera film but overshadowed by Zeffirelli's 1982 version.
Domingo may be slightly better than Bonisolli as Alfredo, but Anna Moffo as Violetta and definitely Gino Bechi as Germont sing their roles better than Teresa Stratas and Cornell McNeill.
By the way, when Gino gave a concert, after it finishes nobody leaves, because he used to return to the stage, and sang many italian songs following himself at the piano. Wonderful singer!
Gino is hardly recognizable, and if I shouldn´t hear his glorious voice,I wouldn´t say it was him. Instead it is good to see a real young Franco Bonisolli listening.
Besides lacking power in the lower register his rendition is in the grand tradition of exquisite baritonesound.
In entreating his son, he breaks our
hearts. Bravo Bechi. Thank you
for posting such a treasure.
