@Psylonz to be fair, you're absolutely right but this is from the channel 9 video that was a collection of the last 10 years of WSC finals. And if you guys want to see a worse LBW, find the not out at the MCG from that summers test series: Morrison to McDermott, would have won NZ the test and tied the series. As John Bracewell said, the Oz umpires were as big a bloody cheats as the Pakistani umps of the time. Thank god for nuetral umps and technology
i'm an indian but i'm having deep respect for current nz side
they r gentlemen....they neither get depress or angry wen they lose nor they get overjoy when they win....and daniel vettori is one of the most cool and calm captain
We were the beige kings from 1980/81, the underarm summer when we first wore the coloured stuff, until the final ODI with England at the end of the 1987/88 season.
People hated beige by this stage and the change was put in place for the following season. It was a mish mash of colours and combinations until they finally settled on the all black (which is what we thought NZ should wear all along - but they thought it would be too hot).
interesting game - australia very much on the rise after years of terrible results and nz starting to wane (despite their brief resurgence in 92 world cup). nz bowling looks pedestrian except for hadlee. that lbw was a shocker! thank god for neutral umpires
Hadlee never carried on like a porkchop like Warne, McGrath, Matthews and others. He was a gentleman. He only got slagged by the Australian crowds because they simply couldn't handle how good he was. In the late 80s he was far superior to any Australian bowler and, of course, this hurt the Australians. Hence, the chant.
I think this was the last season the Kiwis wore the beige in anger. This was also the tour where Hadlee copped the "Hadlee's a wanker chant" thats why he was trying to make up to the crowd at the end.
Wow! Thanks for this post. I was an American living in Melbourne at the time and that was the first cricket match I ever saw. I learned 3 important words at that match: HADLEE'S A WANKER!!!!
Yes, the 85/86 WSC wasn't a good one for NZ. However, the early 80s teams were fantastic. The probably would have won the 82/83 WSC, after winning the 15 match qualifying round against Oz and Eng, but we tragically lost Hadlee on the eve of the Finals. The watershed 80/81 WSC Finals were lost 1-3 but this wasn't helped by certain events in the crucial 3rd Final. Ok, we didn't 'win many series but as perpetual underdogs we did have many famous one day victories.
Ya absolute plum, can't see any reason to say not out, velletta didn't get a fair crack in Aussie side, but he is from Perth!

@JAY86953 thanks man. i agree with you. although i get angry with the nz team playing so poorly lately, they still have character.
i really cringe when i see australia play. they are full of themselves and are complete sore losers.

@timmytosser I'm sure he was copping the Hadlee's a Wanker chant on previous tours as well

I'm not sure Dyer caught half of those - just like the Boxing day test.

Hadlee had to laugh at the ump- incompetent at the very least; and a cheat- probably. And I agree with you hsv941200 too- beautifully put.

So, with no prior knowledge of the game or basis for reasoning, you decide to brand one of its legends as a wanker.
Sigh... thanks for your contribution.

Disappointing performance by NZ, a one day team in serious decline from the heights of the early 1980's.
blairomatic 5 years ago
We weren't that great in the early 80's either. What did we win? Look at the 85-86 tri series with India, 3 wins in 10 games.
