  • I'm not a jazz fanatic, but I can see why this is a crazy beautiful song.

  • I love Nina Simone she is the shiiiiiit! rivaled only by Billie Holiday, Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald!!

  • @filosofa74 etta's passed a few days ago, but you're right on with your singers...

  • @Ultrabrut1 srsly? LAME.

  • @steffyMcMuffin How 'bout in YOUR hair then?

  • @Ultrabrut1 Hahahahahahahaha, maybe it's my simple sense of humour, but this had me in stitches hahaha

  • This guitar player would make a great band leader at weddings, Caribbean cruise ships, and the occasional bar-mitvah for hire. But I hope that after this he never again 'accompanied' a soul-legend. It is one thing to be able to play great notes, it is another to know when to play them, and when to shut the hell up.

  • This is superb! Some very talented musicians.

  • καλα το σολο σκιζει !

  • PHENOMENAL

  • love you, nina, love your strength, your rage, your genius.

  • I first heard this tune on the then new Creedence album. Then you travel to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and now, this very fine version. I believe Screamin Jay wrote it.

  • Do pior da Nina Simone

  • JEG forgot to smoke ganja!

  • Does anybody know what she's saying when she starts speaking french in the beginning

  • @realme606 She says "Un jour il sera ici. En francais il s'appelle 'Ne me quitte pas' " which means "One day he'll be here (not sure of what she meant by saying this...). In French this song is called 'Ne me quitte pas' ('Do not leave me' litteraly), and in English it is called 'I put a spell on you'..."

  • Un brano eccezionale compimenti piacere di averti incontrato

  • lol drummer got tired didn't he?

  • "So I went to Africa and got the mojo dust and put a spell on you because you're mine!" Wow son! If only it were that easy smh

  • excellent !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why wasn't I born in the 50's?

  • chama os mulekessss

  • Love this song she is great singer love it.

  • crazy guitar :))

  • You're mine!!!

  • What a women,what a voice what a song ,what a 'm doing here-listen you fool!!!!!!!!

  • Who dislikes this? Really? This was AMAZING!

  • Looking for some covers of this song, I 'discovered' her... She's awesome!

  • well that was 6 mins 17 secs of 4 amazing musicians on stage...

  • she's so cool

  • she is so beautiful

  • nina you`re queen of jazz

  • love the part when she sings:

I went to Africa got me some Mojo , crashed and put a spell on you.

    so sweet

  • kickcopper10- This is an old Screamin Jay Hawkins song that has been done by many including Credence Clearwater in the 60's but Nina does it best I say. Being a blues singer and piano player I love to do this one myself.

  • Really good song and good interpretation.

  • That shit was HOTT!!

  • Did you order in?

  • This is horrible....guitar is cool but Nina's voice isn't great :(

  • @Shidareyanagi i'd like to see you play piano and sing half as well as that after all she's been through...

  • @Shidareyanagi you god no manners or music taste, sir

  • Comment removed

  • обожаю!!

  • shit man... that sound so damn good!

  • 70 guys don't know what music is about! :) nina forever.....

  • This just melted my melon! love it!

  • 69 people has never been under the spell of true love

  • Now I know why she is called 'The High Priestess of Soul' indeed she truly is!

  • I don't understand people's fascination with Simone. I just watched some youtube videos of hers and her voice just ain't getting through to me.

  • @drvowel

She was a genius. Listen to "My baby don't care for me..." and her better recordings of her stupendously great songs on here. Magnificent!

  • @drvowel Its different. Very soulful and non-traditional.

  • @drvowel it didnt for me either, but i listened to "dont let me be misunderstood" and then it clicked

  • @InnerSailor I just did and it still didn't click for me. I just don't like "lyrical"/sentimental songs and singers. I'm more into the technical aspects of a singer's voice.

  • @drvowel There's no need for you to understand people's fascination with Simone. Musical taste can't always be explained. You either get it or you don't.

  • wow and wow and wooooowwww!!

  • Better than the Animals, maybe. The first time i heard Nina Simone I thought it was a man ... but what a great voice !

  • otro nivel :)

  • 68 person don't get the spell!!!

  • this is real fuuuu__ing music!

  • 67 people are deaf or just dumb

  • Shiiiiiit I was cooking and i burnt my diner because this was soooo goooood!

  • @3littlebirdsify what did you have for dinner?

  • @MayChild8 burnt king prawns !

  • @3littlebirdsify Where was I?

  • @MayChild8 LOOL!!

  • @MayChild8 lots and lots of great music... enought for the senses and the body.

  • @adrich16 you had that for dinner?

  • @3littlebirdsify LOL. This singer is astonishing... It's normal you forgot you was cooking when you listened to this...

  • @3littlebirdsify ur diluted

  • the only thing bad about the ending it's because it's the ending ..... terrific

  • @3littlebirdsify .....SHE is worth it!!!!! * smile *

  • was this at the Jazz Fest?

  • I LOVE this version, but check THIS out! /watch?v=ZK-oKU4nF4s

  • He is Alvin Al Shackman!

  • Who´s the guitarrist?

  • Comment removed

  • @recomienda

    Should be Al Shackman

  • Gves me shivers i love her RIP Nina

  • Nice

  • I can't stop listening to this song. I only discovered this song 1 week ago.

First, I listened to the original Screamin Jay Hawkins.

But, Nina Simone's version absolutely captured my heart.

It's soo powerful, emotional and simply beautiful.

    And, soo refreshing...

  • "I went to Africa and got me some mojo dust and I put a spell on you... because you're mine." You don't mess around with Nina Simone.

  • Alan Price's original is still better.

  • @2347t09d7fb09w4759g The Alan Price Set did not write the original. Screamin' Jay Hawkins wrote the original.

  • Lol you play a few chords on an guitar every now and then indulge yourself with ideas that a s a muscian you not all that bad and then you hear Nina ....and your looking round for the broom or a kettle to boil her a cup of tea. Singers that have done mileage.

  • In English it's called "IIIIIIII put a speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllll on you! You always do Nina..you always do...oh yea.....

  • love you, Nina!

  • Michael in San Antonio: You have put a spell on me, and I like it.

    Love, Carolyn

  • OH MY GOD ...

  • you can really see here that singing is a primal body function for her. i am jelly ^^

  • Voodoo woman casting her spells..... The genius that is Nina Simone.

  • Nina Simone had a unique way to take a great song like this and be able to spin on it and make it her own.

  • Nina... You're a LEGEND!

  • How could you not have heard of her before???????????/??

  • yes i agree with abryan

  • I've never heard of her, but I'm sold! What a talent......love the soul in her voice, she's fabulous!

  • i love watching her play, sing.. and watching her band mates!!

  • im afraid of this woman

  • Nina Simone is a brilliant musician, a genius who has taken in a wide range of influences; gospel, jazz, folk, classical, blues, European art song, musical theater, R&B and blended them together into unique works of art. ╰⊰⊹✿ Don't expect to put this on in the background, because this is music that will force you to sit down and pay attention to it. ✿⊹⊱╮ Nina Simone will not be ignored! . .
  • People must have thought dislike was dis-i-like

  • A jazz diva. She and Ella were the best !

  • @DeedleDeedleDumplin I agree completely! And I think they can share the throne because their style is so different it's hard to compare them

  • i love you nina :)))

  • 63 people pressed dislike by accident.

  • Amazing!!!!!! Guitatist is so powerful!!!

  • This woman put a spell on me the moment I heard her sing!

  • Pure genius..

  • You are a first rate jazz singer...creme la creme...I can't get enough of your music.

  • @mutakati Sacre bleu!! Creme *de* la creme!

  • ohhh goodddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Woooooww.....que geniaaaalll....!!!!!

  • first time i heard nina simone was from soundtrack to brigitte fondas movie....fell in love with that voice....just soulful

  • @txdragon2008 haha I thought i was the only one!

  • @txdragon2008 Point of No Return! That's where I discovered Nina too. Excellent movie for Nina's raw soul. Beyond gorgeous!!!

  • @coffeebrothers me too! I love that movie and discovered a wonderful new sound!

  • @txdragon2008 That movie must have introduced a lot of people to Nina me included. My wife an I got married to her song I want some sugar in my bowl which we heard on that movie.

  • love u too Goddesss

  • I love you Ms. Simone!

  • it's funny, she quotes jacques Brel's ne me quitte pas which is an entirely different song. I wonder if she did that on purpose. I don't think Ms. Simone ever did anything without purpose. She was one amazing talent. we miss you Nina.

  • would u recon that the start at the beginning of this was a little loud this indicates the true meaning of digital i whould think

  • would u recon that the start at the beginning of this was a little loud

  • Where is it progressing to! Everywhere in all directions. (I dont want to be down on older music . There is some fantastic stuff out there that will always stand the test of time, but look around at the plethora of music around now. Admitedley it would be easy to look at the charts and not be overly impressed, but there is more music about now than ever. There are many truly great bands out there that will never get the recognition. those who made it . muse placebo skunk anasie, ah run out out o

  • She was a great singer, but its just general ignorance to suggest music isn't still progressing.

  • @studean15 where is it progressing to?

  • Simply awsome :)

    Thanks for posting :)

  • No uberredden i dont think he does

  • Guitar is good, but the singing here is actually pretty bad. I've heard tons of better singers, people whining about how bad people are now are just stuck in nostalgia.

This song = good, but the singing = poor.

  • @Shmossy I bet you don't even know she is. Hah.

  • @uberredden I know who she is. Does something as arbitrary as a name MAKE her good? No.

If you value singing based on the name of who's singing it, fine - but I value singing on the quality of the singing itself.

  • if you collected all the talent from every single X-factor/Idol etc tv show, and joined it all together into one 'artist'. You'd have an artist with perhaps 5% of the talent this woman does. Modern 'pop' music is all about how you look and auto tune. Forget actually being able to write/sing your own stuff, just hum a long to some drivel and you can get a number 1. hence why new artists like nina now fall into a "niche" category. damn shame really.

  • i have fallen in love with this woman.why?

  • i've fallen in love with this woman.why?

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TOTALLY AGREE!!! the songs these days no matter how popular they get, they dont last a year till people forget about them!

  • Oh, Lord, that guitar...

    Just kill me now, please.

  • She WOWs!!!!!! Great!!!!!

  • i totally am into free speech....pull the plug on "mytotallyawesomename"

  • @mytotallyawesomename ... that's a weird thing to be compelled to post.

  • wow.

  • if only i was born 10 - 15 years earlier... maybe i would have had the chance of seeing this great woman alive.

still, i am lucky enough to be inspired by her music.

  • Man They SMASHED That! GREAT DISPLAY OF THE SOUL & MUSIC

  • Really stupid people!

  • I put a spell on you, because you're miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnneee !!!!

  • A poor version

  • If you don't like this music you somehow seem to be disconnected to real life, and should contact your provider :P

  • @6418vm

lol you are so right lol

  • I wish the sound was better, what a awesome lady.

  • she sounds chinese dont know why

  • 1984 Ronnie Scott's - don't remember the exact date but one of the best evenings of my life - Nina Simone was superb

@mochamami916 - you will be hooked for sure

  • @karenatis

Lucky you!! I would have paid a pretty penny to have seen her perform live. Ronnie Scotts in London, right? Is it small and intimate? I bet she sounded nice--real nice.

  • @layoutzz Small club, 'ringside' seats and she was so on form. It wasn't always so - her battles with drugs and with herself often negatively affected her performances but that night she was perfection.

  • Man.... That was so , so different . It was beautiful . Her voice is addictive and I think I'm gonna be hooked lol. Wow.

  • @mochamami916 I know the feeling because I had a similar response the first time I heard her. Her "Four women" box set is AMAZING. But if you are just looking for a place to start, go check out her version of "Don't let me be misunderstood" like right now! That the one that hooked me

  • I am sorry, actually I am not, but I have not heard anyone alive today that can sing like this woman. The irony of it is that she would not be given the time of day in todays music industry. She is a real singer... sings from the heart and deep in the soul... Her music gives me chills.... I know I should not be doing this but I have to admit I listen to her songs daily at work on my iPhone.... I just place my phone in Airport mode and let the songs rip through the call centre... Love her

  • @abryan01 I WOULD PLAY NINA SIMONE THROUGHOUT THE DAY LIKE U YOU!BECAUSE THIS IS REAL MUSIC TODAY'S MUSIC HAS NO ORIGINALITY OR CLASS IT'S ALL ABOUT HUSTLING AND SEX.

  • @abryan01 I read that Fiona Apple is influenced by Nina, so I had to check Nina out. She is good. Fiona can sing to!

  • @abryan01 ...check out 'Kimbra - Plain Gold Ring'. It might restore a little bit of your faith in today's artists. ;)

  • who's that guy on the guitar? ;)

  • @pietia19

    Al Schackman

  • A PIECE OF MY HEART HAS "NINA SIMONE" WRITTEN ON IT

  • Oh man! This is just fantastic! Again, Nina shows that she's the best!

  • @okylyc1 NINA IS A EMPRESS OF CLASSIC JAZZ MUSIC

  • does anyone know who is playing the guitar??

  • we're supposed to LEARN from the past! not upchuck stolen riffs and fake our way into people's wallets. this is a REAL singer. so pay attention! this is how it's done.

  • @kittiekatchoo AMEN

  • 57 people who dislike this are dead inside.

  • What sucker says "justin bieber" ? Keep on wanking with that bullshit, and listen Nina Simone . . . Lady Simone ! ! !

  • @MrGranousty JUSTIN BIEBER IS TOO OVERRATED HE TURNS ME OFF!

  • Her power could launch the space shuttle.

  • @RURALWARROOM AND BEYOND!
