When I want to introduce people to the music of Michael Hedges, I usually have three "go to" compositions. Aerial Boundaries for incredible technique. Rickover's Dream for inspirational beauty. And Gospel/Tomorrow Never Knows for what, to me, seems to be Michael in pure, joyous guitar playing mode. Thanks for these videos!
Just listened to a clip from Giovanni Baglioni. You can hear the influence at the very end. Brought this one back to me anyway. Song is called "Get Up". Thanks YouTube!
type3, you might note that these two tunes are on the 1996 album, "Oracle." However, he obviously played them for more than 10 years before releasing them to a general audience.
In my opinion, this live version in 1985 is better than the version released in 1996 on "Oracle." Anyone else want to vote?
The greatest comment comes from other professional musicians. Just check out some of the comments steve vai, david crosby & others have said about him. Michael was one of a kind. Can't really compare him to anyone.

this guy is amazing, still in the end I side with Hendrix, I feel he was even more diverse of a player just using standard tuning, but who knows what jimi might have done with alternate tunings
This guy is kinda good. Like the BEST EVER kinda good. I can only imagine how much great music was trapped in his head when he died. I think its a greater loss and Buddy Holly and Jimi Hendrix combined. Personal opinion, but this guy is the best guitarist/composer the world his ever known.
sure, for rock. rock and roll was already there, but Hedges invented a style that no one had heard of before. its just my opinion, but i also believe hedges was the best guitarist/composer EVER
i am old 54 1st time i heard of him cool! 1st part sounds a bit like i got a fast car by tracy chapman.nice to find good music even if you are old and to see young people still dig the music i have dug when i too was young! i wonder how long 60s music will influence people?
The album version is a more refined version... all the years came through I guess. I love that he had it so many years before and you can hear the differences. Michael Manering makes it a totally different animal too.
So beautiful. I saw him a couple of times, and words can't describe his playing. This version is a bit truer to the original song on Revolver. A tear rolled down my cheek when I think of the loss.
Wow! I did not know this existed either and so many years before it was put out. Thanks so much for posting this. Gospel is an amazing song. Hedges was unbelieveable and is a great loss. Saw him about 5-6 times starting in 1988. When he would start his dizzying twirls and hit harmonics in full spin, it was jaw dropping...
donate to michael hedges childrens fund, in his honor if you are enjoying his music do the right thing get there through his web site jasper and sasha deserve it
I met Hedges once and hung out with him for about a half hour and he was completely cool. just he and I. I asked a question about his Harp Guitar and he was like " Ah, it's not top of the line or anything, check it out if you like". And they way he played that night, he was from another planet I thought.
Nice to see more vids of MH showing up here. I wish I would have seen him while he was alive. Hard to believe it will be 10 years since his death at the end of this year.
Wow I had no idea he had this all worked out 10 years before he put it on CD.
This video gives the impression that he was a mellow dude in the early years, but it's an illusion! The first moment I saw him in SF in 1985 he ran out on stage, plugged in, started strumming loud and hard and belted out All Along the Watchtower. He gave a great show even in the early days.
Twenty-six years on now, and still brilliant...what a spark he had.

Tomorrow Never Knows isn't a Harrison's but a Lennon-McCartney's, of course Lennon.
