  • RIP Joe South 1943-2011

  • @BlankfrackCripledFUK In one of Joe's concert BlankfrackCripledFUK gave Joe a blowjob during a break before Joe rammed his cock up BlankfrackCripledFUK asshole. And boy didn't BlankfrackCripledFUK raved about how he swallowed his cum. A job well done Mr Faggot ass.

  • @sansui77 JoeSouth is the half brother to your born again bisexual boyfriend "Peter" North.

  • Hi Joe South Fans! See Joe South at the beginning of AVM's new 'Hush' video (posted on YouTube). Joe graced us by playing his original intro on our 2011 re-release of his classic! Joe says of AVM's version, "It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up!" Thank you, Joe. You are an amazing man! God Bless!

  • lovin it

  • This wonderful man is poet! I could listen to his words forever

  • While I do like Lynn Anderson's famous cover version, I like this Joe South original MUCH better, It has more soul and more grit. Sometimes the best versions are not the most well known, but the earlier version(s) as recorded by the writer as is the case with this song.

Also I think Joe South's original version of "Down In The Boondocks" is superior to Billy Joe Royals cover version

  • I really love it! His simplicity is appealing. It is not like the others. This is original.

  • wow, what an excellent song...not to mention songwriter! I can remember my Dad and Mom listening to this in their brand new 1970 Chrysler that they loved so much.

  • Most Joe South songs, this one especially, shows what you can do with a notebook full of sound bites, cliches, and catch phrases. This is just one old saying after another.

  • @flukyluke

LOL, most of these weren't "catch phrases" until his songs made them so.

  • @ButterflyDragon9 lol. Wrong. So now he coined the phrases and cliches.

  • i knew a guy sang this because it kinda sounded wrong when a woman gives a man a rose garden and a big diamond ring. always wondered who really sang this song. glad i found out.

  • Joe South wrote it, and sings it here. Dozens of covers, most by females. Billy Joe Royal (Joe's friend) also covered it.

"(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden" was the title of a song written by Joe South, that is best known as recorded by country singer Lynn Anderson. Her late 1970 release topped the U.S. country chart, reached number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart and remained the biggest selling recording by a female country artist until 1997

  • yeah i meant it was nice to find the original singer who sang this song, meaning no disrespect to others who have covered this song.

  • I really appreciate the background you provide in your videos. Thank you very much. I didn't know but always considered a one of a kind song.

  • @murphicus You have all the credits, but who played the violins? I think those are real

  • Esa canción aparece en la apertura y cierre de Tele13 entre 1972 y 1976.

  • no me he dado cuenta de eso... esta en youtube??? tienes el link???

  • busca Teletrece 1975 con César Antonio Santis. Te sale uno.

  • you can listen the song performed by czech singer Miluška Vobornikova..the lyrics isnt the same, but her voice is wonderful...

  • I have always listined to Joe South (Games people Play) but I did not know all the hits he wrote as well. Please post more with information of who covered it.

  • joe south rules

  • Never knew he wrote this song. Very good, its always great to hear the songs straight from the person who wrote and composed originals, later to be hits by another singer. It makes the whole song come full circle, in my opinion. thanks!

  • I really like Joe South. I too grew up on him. The 60's and 70's were the best and with songs that we could relate too. My favorite Joe South song is "Walk a mile in my shoes"....even Elvis could not do it better than Joe and Elvis was the love of my life....still is.

  • Today (February 28th) is Joe South's birthday! Leave Joe a note on joesouth(dot)com

  • Sorry, but the person who writes a Grammy award winning song that makes it to #1 on the country & #3 on the pop charts; can perform it any old way they want!

Joe South wrote it along with a bunch of other hit songs: Walk a Mile in My Shoes, Don't it Make You Wanna Go Home, Games People Play, Hush...

South was also a prominent sideman, recording the memorable guitar part on Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools", Tommy Roe's "Sheila" as well as appearing on Bob Dylan's album Blonde on Blonde.

  • HA!!! Well said

  • So it was Joe south.. I might have known..

Great words and a fabulous song.

    Wonderful

  • Great melody, clever words, nice voice. But this arrangement is awful. Drummer...

  • Martina did an excellent job with this song as well! ... I think Joe South is awesome ... Grew up on him ... 37 now and still listen to him ... Martina renewed the interest ... Cheers!

  • this was news to me! thanks for sharing this song, I really like version and voice.

  • lynne anderson really put magic on this song.when she sang it the song become much much more beautiful.

  • thats called "MELODY" u knw !!

  • I love this guys music a whole lot. I can't say that I care much for his recording of "Rose Garden" , even if he did write it. He was very lucky and did extremely well when Lynn Anderson recorded it and made a huge fortune from her recording of this song. He won a grammy award for this song after Anderson recorded it too, in addition to receiving royalties that are staggering beyond the imagination and is still receiving them! Go Joe!!!! I also like "Fool Me" and "Games People Play".

  • The guy has soul.Awesome recordings!!

  • Joe South has had a great recording career that sometimes overshadows the fact that he is one of the best songwriters ever...His songs go farther and deeper both melodically and lyrically than most writers would dare to go...And that's why his music stands the test of time and is still remembered and listened to today...

  • Agree with everything. Brutally underrated!! Thanks for a most deserved tribute to a true Hall of Fame musician.
