Bloody shame that they saved the worst N7 of them all. It was 'London Pilot' for many years and when we had a failure 'Enfield engine' they gave us that! It was slow and never 'steamed properly. The drivers position was the wrong side too.
I much preferred to work the 'long travel valve' N7's, they were far superior. Happy days 1957-80.
Very nostalgic. I travelled on this line many times from Norwich to Wells as a child in the 1950s, usually behind a 'Claude Hamilton'. 62564 and 62577 were regulars. Later it was Class 101 and Derby Lightweight DMUs until closure in 1964. There was always lots of activity at Dereham.
Hi John? As a youngster living in a village close to Fakenham in the 50s. Having the choice of two railway stations from which to travel was a luxury I suppose we took for granted at the time.. Unfortunately by the time Id left school in 1963 both had all but gone. But like you fond memories of the local rail network remain etched for ever..
continueed ... From my classroom at the old Fakenham Secondary School I would watch those 101s and Derby Lightweights as they disappeared into the cutting as they approached Fakenham from Wells then waited to see the Wells bound service emerge some considerable time later..Thats probably why I never learned much at school :o)..
Very nice indeed I have to say, an excellent pan shot also I have yet more practicing 2do before i'm that good. If they'd had mk1's behind her it could have been like the mid 1950's :-)
Thank you Philip you're to kind. To be honest I completely messed up that shot! My intended point of focus during panning was to be on the footplate crew! So it really annoys me every time I watch that sequence now. But yes your absolutely right a rake of Mk1s would have looked great :o)..
As always fantastic video footage of steam at Dereham. Thanks for putting these wonderful clips on You Tube for us all to see. Great Stuff, cant wait for the next one.
Thanks Simon you too! I always look forward to your updates Quality Stuff :o). Ben and attended the final weekend of the Moors Spring Gala.. Had a great weekend, Updates coming soon..
A beautiful video, love the prep footage, very enjoyable. We were very impressed by her traction on board, she got to speed very quickly with no wheelslip ! I have just put a vid of her on my channel, feel free to have a look.
Very many thanks Mike..Yes the sure-footed acceleration of the N7 is quite remarkable. They must have been an awesome sight on the London suburban services back in the days of steam commuter trains. What does young Charlie think of the N7? He sounded quite excited in your video clip :o)
We both enjoy both steam and diesel, but he hasnt seen much change from the pannier tank that frequents the MNR in summer season and found the N7 more "angry" sounding as he put it ! You should hear him on my "sir nigel gresley" video through Wymondham mainline with 13 coaches !!!
Me and Dave were down at Yaxham for a stop, nothing overly exciting went on down there though. I've never been to the line before but enthusiasm somewhat dropped by the second trip - there seemed to be a distinct lack of smiles from staff! Even so, it must be nice to fire along the line for a change, with the length being longer and all.
Jó videó, tetszik!! :)

To access the lineside at the Mid-Norfolk you need to be a Member/Volunteer and hold a PTS certificate. I hope this answers your question?

Hi Jeremy The N7 currently has a very loud Westinghouse air compressor fitted. normally these units operate very much quieter than this.
