  • Gadz ur room is manky.

  • Enjoyed your Renewable Energy Video, Please allow me to insert a link to your description. I would be happy to pay you $20 through PayPal for your efforts.

  • It produces energy on it's own, now that's great.

  • John R. Christy has been accused of recanting his position that climate change is neither Anthropogenic nor Catastrophic, but he didn’t. He used two independent data sets, weather balloon and satellite for his findings. (see links in my about me) Later he only stated that there was some anthropogenic impact that could not be predicted 100 years out, but that what we’re doing was good for the plants.

  • Awesome video. :) You should add it at windturbines(dot)net.

  • nice explanation

  • anyone looking into green energy should vist The Zeitgeist Movement or the Venus project. Some problems to overcome before green energy is taken seriously

  • Nice :) good job :)

  • Excellent video, very clear the way you explained it' keep posting. Thank you.

  • Cool project! Instead of batteries to store power which wear out why not try fuel cells. Also from your video it sounded like you had AC to DC to AC which seems pretty lossy. Better to do it just DC to AC.

  • Were did you get the dc batteries?? And the price of the batteries also, if that's possible? Thanks, please reply.

  • YOUTUBE: helix wind self-destruct

  • :16 theres something in the sky!....cool turbine

  • A small wind turbine can be put in every house hold in America, they can be manufactured locally with small business or People can build it themselves...Huge Wind Turbines must be done by larger corporations, it takes alot to put up huge wind turbines...It can be done, we must create more manfacturing in America and mass produce it...It will bring the cost down...Solar and Wind can lesson the dependence on Oil by 25%.

  • this guy is a smart simple person ...lol @ good and bad power

  • How does the direction of the wind affect its consistency? Likewise, does the direction of the blade (spinning one way and then another) affect the output-diminish its consistency?

  • i heard small scale turbines are no where near as efficient as the huge ones, is that true?

    still every little helps.

  • I have built a non wind turbine belt conveyor turbine cog driver it may sound a bit complicated but it's very similar to having a dog and still barking yourself abit pointless but don't be deterred alot of people spend hours and hours a day building absolute worthless rubbish and you never know by some miracle something might look good or even work, but please don't get too optimistic it might lead to much dissapointment :)

  • sir, could you please tell me the name of the software in yur video, you used to design yur wind turbine.

    thanks!

  • @DraeneiGirlsHotMuch lol at your name. grow the fuck up.

  • If you want to chat with an energy expert, join us for EcoChat tonight at 8pm CST from the web.

Hear from the former President and CEO of a wind turbine company.

Ask about Bloom Box technology and Obama's commitment to a nuclear power plant.

Go to my youtube page and visit my blog to chat it up!

  • sir, I would be grateful if you could tell me the type of generator used- I mean whether its a synchronous m/c or an induction m/c and why? thanks in advance.

  • This is a surface Permanent magnet machine of the axial flux variety. They are affectionately referred to as "pancake" machines in some circles. Let me know if that is what you were looking for. Or check out my wind turbine destroyed video for a closer look. I would also like to refer you to Hugh Piggots work he is the best in the business. Thank you for the polite inquiry.

  • Nice use of Rhino ;)

Is there any more information or built tutorial of that turbine somewhere?

I would like to built a vertical turbine...would the same generator work?

  • Hugh Piggot has a set of build instructions for a turbine much like mine. He charges a fair price I would highly recommend looking into it.

  • Nice extention cord, POS. That is what you have here. POS

  • you fuckin cock shuta fuck up, your dont know about this video nothing

    so fuck you and goodnight

  • I 100% agree I think I sound like a loose douche nozzle when I use my head sphincter to modulate the back-pressue on my lungs. I must say that you type well, considering your head has exploded. Sorry about that are you interested in narrating any of my future videos? I am serious about that.

  • Hey mate. Do you know how to be able to tell the difference between warm wind & moist wind?

  • Poor Batterys ... You should really use a charging controller . Lead Acid Batteries really dont like too high charging voltages (and to high charging current) .. this will kill the battery very fast. and since good controllers are switch mode devices they can also use very low voltages coming from the generator to create a usable charging voltage for the batterys, even if the output of the generator is lower then the needed voltage. you pollute too if you have to buy a new battery every 2 month.

  • I have a vast amount of interest but I'm unshore if I would be able to do some of them cause of my Aspergers Syndrome effects my learning abilty and understanding. I'm interest in Everything science and I also luv to drive trains oneday to haha. Is their a way I can leanr what you have learnt with out going to Uni? I just want the knowledge and understaning of this stuff but only for back yard projects not careers

  • You don't need a charge controller for the wind turbine?

  • do all wind turbines not have a limiter so they dont explode

  • That is hard to say, but if they don't they should!

  • Wind power, if one is able to harness on a large scale, is the new wave. Your conversion from wind power to useable energy, could very well be your meal ticket for life.

  • good bad power?! you mean ac dc? or jesus vs satan style bad good O_o all electricity is bad if you touch it, yet high voltage is a misinterpreted myth, its ampage you should worry about.

    seriously, bad power?

  • Thanks for telling me about that high voltage myth... I've never heard that before!

  • " a lamp OR and alarm clock" or both? what are we talkin here? the whole room or one appliance? I hope to start builing some type of energy source soon. but if i can't do better than a lamp from 1 wind turbine....I won't be going down that road.

  • Great comment, I have the unique ability to look back at my life only 1 week ago and think My Dog what a dipship I was back then. So looking back at this two years ago. . . yes I was being very vague. my point was more that you can power many types of appliances not so much the quantity. for a better estimate imagine a parabolic curve relating power out to wind speed with one point of 1.7kW at about 40 mph windspeed. not sure on any other points.

  • What I would do is consult the National Weather Service find out the average wind speed for your location - then specifically design a generator that will only produce during tthat [particular wind speed

  • I've been using a magnetic generator to power my kitchen appliances. I built the generator with the plans at:

    magniwork-review.blogspot(DOT)com

  • Amazing stuff makes me want to hook one up right away.

  • try hooking you wind turbine up to a bike in onne of the highest gears. that way in a very high wind storm the wind mill will spin slowwer but still pro duce the same amoutn of power. This will be safer and better on the axel.

  • need faster frame rate

  • Excellent stuff, I really enjoyed this video.

  • raise ur voice, dammit!

    what's wrong with u?

  • that is a very efficent wind turbine that small thing with 2 horse power! well done clap clap clap x30(:

  • Why you are not using automobile alternator. has own ac/dc converter build in. I think will be more cheaper and effective. Can You give me advise from were we can by the blades. Thank you for your video.

  • Buy the blades? Why not just carve them yourself its cheap, you could do it for less than 20$ U.S. if you have a saw, a chisel and a hammer. As for why I didn't use the alternator. . . There are approx. 20 important variables that go into choosing a generator for a wind turbine. I simply don't understand how to optimize my design to accommodate an alternator. Your question is not simple. But perhaps you could do some experimentation and share with me the benefits of an alternator. Thanks

  • renewable energy solutions watch my profile for more

  • how many watts is that 1.6ghz or whatever was said? nice man.

  • 2 and a half frapuccinos

  • frapuccinos eh? funny i us to be called that. do i know u man?

  • Burn garbage for electricity

  • I was wondering what prevents the battier's from over charging? wouldn't you want to run a 12-14vdc regulator with some filter caps to charge the battier's? also did you run a iron core in your coils?

  • What is the capacity factor of your turbine?

  • Respect!!

    1) Is it not productive to use an off-the-shelf electrical motor (ie R/C car motor)?

    2) I was thinking about using pressure differences + venturi tubes(when you open two windows on the opposite sides of the house => wind current) for an in-house wind generator. Any advice?

    Keep up the good work!!

  • Brilliant!! Im gonna build one this thanksgiving!

  • is the rectifier the same as a charge contoller?

  • Not at all, you will ruin your batteries if you just use a rectifier as I did, lesson learned for me

  • hey bud thanks your vidio helped me understand a lot more. Thanks again. :)

  • Hi there. I'm planning to build a savonious wind aerogenerator on my balcony since I live on a 19th floor flat here in Scotland. I'm really interested on your battery bank and the type of batteries you use. Could you be a bit more specific about them please? Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Green Engeneer! Really great project and specially excellent atitude towards our and the planet´s health!! I´d like to know a little more about your coils. How many turns? Wire thickness and if they are all conected to each other?

    Thanks! And congratulations!

  • There are approximately 100-150 turns of wire per coil, I did not count them it was only important that they were approximately equal. The wire guage was 16. The generator design has a lot of trade offs which are hard to summarize or genernalize, so make quick designs and spend a lot of time testing if you wish to be successful. Above all have fun!

  • its technically not renewable your taking away from the earths rotation by converting it into eletricity

  • Admittedly I don't know much about the natural sciences. Its funny I thought that wind was a result of the interactions of the system of pressure gradients caused by the cyclic heating of the sun and the non uniform thermal coefficients of the different surfaces of the earth (i.e. land and water). What you seem to be saying is that wind is a result of the earth spinning.

  • some of it is.

  • no it isnt

  • Sorry, replies seem to be posted on top.

Anyway, KUDOZ for this turbine. 1Kw? That's.... impressive.

Just one quick question: Is it safe to have your batteries in your living space (your bedroom)? I thought fumes can release when charging/discharging from batteries and you shouldn't be around them all the time. Urban myth? Really interested in an answer

  • check out my wind power vids...

  • Internationalist investors don't like wind/solar energy(Cheney HATES them!),they favor wind power over solar because it can be worked onto the "grid". At first, few people would have their own wind turbines. Their big fear is that, once these sources of energy evolve, self contained units will take people off the energy circuit, dratically lowering profits.

Investors support nuclear, gas, oil and coal. Anything that can be served to the public from a central point for a set fee...owned by them.

  • Great video! This is the future right here. I like the way you kept it simple and in layman's terms.

  • So cool I'm 49, And learn so much from you guys Thank-You. Keep up the good work, to bad my generation used up our resources, the future of man kind should be in better shape

  • My wind videos are a funny response to those who opppose wind power...

  • It makes me wonder what kind of fool would oppose such a thing.

  • Awesome! Thanks for the info, very interesting, look forward to actually try and make one.

  • ..thank you for posting.

  • You should wrap it in carbon fiber !!

  • I didnt see the video. Youtube sometimes gets stuck and becomes a crock of shit. Mr. Youtube owner, when there are problems on the shit tube you better fix them.

  • Good job. Time for larger projects.

  • good stuff, how you have rated your turbine as 1.7KW? the inverter shown is about 200 Watts only.

  • welldone 5 stars

  • This is one of the best videos I have seen. I have a lathe and a milling machine in my shop. I need to get after building a wind turbine soon.

  • With that equipment you should have no trouble at all! Best of luck!

  • Academics . . .

  • yo, check out my Tesla radiant energy collector. its simple to build and cheap, it gives off about 4.6v in 4 days, its just the begginning, ill admit its slow, i just wanted to share cause you show us your windmill to make. free information lol

  • you make a savonius windmill at all?? its pretty easy to make, im in the process of making one of those too. i made regular pvc pipe wind mill and it works ok, i just have to put it higher to get it to spin better.

  • you make a savonius windmill at all?? its pretty easy to make, im in the process of making one of those too. i made regular pvc pipe wind mill and it works ok, i just have to put it higher to get it to spin better.

  • Awesome job man. But you mean rectifier not inverter for the AC to DC going into the batteries

  • FINALLY - someone who understands, and explains the difference between good, and bad power. Thank you sir.

  • Very good. I'm researching wind power and this was very helpful.

  • could someone please honour this Student?

  • Nice job friend. I'm going to school for the same thing. Good luck!

  • i'm already at school ;D but I aint doin a lot!! i'm lazy student! but still it's a really interesting video!

  • where u sleep in ur bedroom or ur greeen room?

  • 1700 watts? i cant believe that. my wind turbine is not that much smaller and cranks out only 450 watts...and its 80 feet in the air.... hmmm. the bergey XL1 is only about 1200 watts and its 8 + feet diameter..

i have lived off grid for 10 yrs, using solar and wind. anybody out there offgrid?

email me. solarman at netmdc dot com

  • Your right that is a very high output, for a turbine that size. That power reading was taken during 40-50 mph winds possibly higher.

  • you're a genius!

  • Save America,

    Save Yourself,

    Vote Dennis Kucinich in 08

  • well done man! congratulations

  • hey im doing a electrical engineering degree and i want to make my own wind turbine, but i just need to know the best design for the actual generator any tips u could give me, more specifically how u rapped the coil

  • Good luck on the EE degree! I can't tell you the best design but I could tell you what I did. Basically the most important things are to: Maximize Magnet "strength" (B), Minimize Gap between coils and magnets, Optimize # of turns to wire resistance ratio.

  • that thing was spinning so fast it was slow...

  • he is dorky indeed.

  • so what stops the battery from over charging

  • depends how windy it is outside ; ) Two of them would provide you more than 2KW of power.

  • Why not use deep cell boat batteries? Isn't that a waste of good power to just power a lamp?

  • lol, the lamp was an example, good point about the batteries

  • Wow enough to microwave your dinner.

  • Thank you greenengineer! I'll be posting this video at Sen. Mike Gravel's website. He's running for President and touting windpower in his environmental plan. This will help me back him up.

  • Hi, I was just wondering where this is - what State, at least. In my area I doubt we get above 10mph average, annually...

Anyways, that doesn't matter, I was just wondering where you are and if it generally gets pretty good wind.

One more thing...did you use any laminates on the stator or no?

  • This was filmed in South Dakota, The average wind spped is 13-15 mph.

  • It has a Flux Capacitor? Isn't that the thing that made the car go back in time in the movie Back to the Future?

  • nice movie

i use a direct drive from a washing machine fisher and picle ,but i m not that fare in my project i stared first with electronics

send me an e mail and i send you some picture

  • Find a commercial ups, an off lease one with dead batteries, for little money you pick up a 5000 watts one. Use as inverter, connect the ups battery leads to your batteries, make sure to cut that annoying beep warning on your ups :)

  • That is a great idea ch33tah.

  • A 60W-equivalent CFL uses 15W. Hmm. I've heard the average home uses 30KW of electricity a day. Would 20 of your homemade wind turbines work?

  • It would, the power a wind turbine produces is proportional to the square of the area its blades sweep. So if you want more power the way to do it is larger blades. A wind turbine with 12 foot diameter will produce much more power than two turbines with 6 foot diameters. Hope this helps.

  • Great job!

  • Thanks a lot for your quick response :)

I will make my experimental wind turbine and only after that, i will make the electrical part! Thanks a lot

  • Great project! Good Job!

I'm interest in do a small wind turbine... just to start ;) but, I didn't know very much about electronic parts!

Can you please post de especifications of the inverter? Or / And a link where to buy it?

    Thanks a lot

And good luck for the next wind turbine =D

  • Choosing the components for your AC/DC/AC system for a home built wind turbine is complicated. First of all I would advise waiting untill the turbine is complete so that you know what kind and how much power you are getting from the turbine

  • The AC/DC inverter - Look for two ratings:

Voltage rating 2 or 3 times larger than your largest recorded voltage. The same goes for the current rating. if a power rating is given use P=VI and V=IR as a quick check.

  • The DC/AC inverter can be purchased at nearly any store which has an automotive section. The store will probably only give you a power rating. The easiest way to choose is to calculate how much power you will be using. I.e. power a computer approx. 300W rating on the inverter. The rating doesnt matter as much on this device because your power is coming from 12V batteries so they will only deliver as much power as the inverter is drawing from them.

  • Wind cannot be controlled to provide directly either continuous base-load power, or peak-load power when it is needed. In practical terms they are therefore limited to some 10-20% of the capacity of an electricity grid, and cannot directly be applied as economic substitutes for coal or nuclear power, however important they may become in particular areas with favourable conditions. The fundamental problem, especially for electricity supply, is their variable and diffuse nature.

  • But windgenergy can be stored off-peak for peak usage. There is a company which is using windgenergy to create hydrogen via electrolisis which is stored in tanks for later combustion, the only by product is water-truly pure energy, unlike coal or nuclear

  • BUt storage is expensive. And for chemical storage, as is the case of the H2, we have 30-40% of losses in the process.

  • Windgen/H2 power is cleaner & MORE efficient. 50kg H2=2Mw. 1ton pwr plant coal=2Mw(Energy Info Admin)& 5500lbs CO2(@ only 30% efficiency). H2 is 60% efficient(OhMyScience1). 2625kw can make 50kg H2(the NRC) and at 60% effeciency that =1200kw, so 2.18Kw makes 1H2kw @ a total 46% efficiency. The 1 wingen/H2 KW sent to the grid = insig CO2 & the O2 produced helps offset the loss of rainforest O2 while 1 coalgen KW adds 2.75 lbs of CO2 to the atmosphere. Which is truly cheaper, wind or fossil?

  • Which is cheaper? fossil, because of that we still use it. Coal we just need to dig. H2 we still need to make it.

  • So don't spend $1 for for an additive which increases MPH by 50% for a $3 gallon of gas because then gas would cost $4 a gallon, even though that $4 gas would get you the same distance as 2 gals of $3 gas? $3 gas is cheaper, but $4 gas is more efficient but you have to pay up front. I'd rather buy $4 gas. The diminishing return of digging miles underground for coal costs way more than windgen/H2. A wind/H2 infrastructure would pay for itself within 20 yrs, dramatically reducing energy costs

  • What is the cost to produce 1kg of H2 and 1kg of coal?

And what is the cost of storage for H2 and for coal or oil?

Off course H2 is cleanner, but still is more expensive. And it is diffcult to store. And how many wind turbine we need to supply the USA with H2?

  • Since you are the one disagreeing, why don't you find out the answers to your questions and get back to us? I've researched my answers, now you need to research your questions. You state H2 is more expensive, but where is your data to back it up?

But here's one tidbit- 10 sq miles of today's solar panels could supply all US electrical needs. You think that could be done for $1trillion, the current cost of our Iraqi invasion? Then how much oil would we need?

  • The most important thing you forgot to researched: the cost. You should know that, since you is defending it. Ask your friend. And ask also how much cost to store it?

"10 sq miles of today's solar panels could supply all US electrical needs"

I think is more close to 100 sq miles...

And how to store energy enough to run the country at night? And the cost of it?

  • I saw the same thing on the history channel and it is more like 10,000 sq. miles. 1 tenth of Nevada.

  • And make that 52Kg of H2 compared to 1 US ton of coal, since they both make 2000 kw of energy

  • do a google patent search for jim noble wind turbine. His (my friend) turbine has been bought by a hydrogen company to create hydrogen power, so it's already being done. Millions of dollars are being spent because it is more cost effective in the long term than fossil fuel. Sometimes you have to look beyond your nose.

  • make that a 50% increase in MPG, not MPH (haven't had coffee yet)

  • sorry, a 100% increase (where's that coffee)

  • Very Informative.... good job!

  • Everyone,

Thanks for the positive comments, its very nice to see people interested in this subject

  • very cool. two thumbs up!!

  • Looks cool, but what would the city say about those live cables and heat sink on the floor? Heck, some ignorants may think you're constructing a bomb! ;-)

  • We have millions of communities in America which will not allow this power source. I've always wanted to setup my home to run off of wind & solar power, but "zoning laws" won't allow it. People have to move out into the country (outside of city limits) to have access to alternative energy.

  • coo

  • Thanks for the demo, I'm going to buy a Turbine off of Ebay soon for about $400, my dad would kill me if I was going to try and build one myself.

  • Thank you for the cool video!Thorough explanations, nice work...

  • Very interesting and informative video. We are looking foreward to know more from you...Thank you.

  • Very interesting and informative video... this is what youtube is all about and I applaude you for it ... thanks !! are you a teacher and if not you should be as you have the ability to talk calnly and very clearly.. thank you

  • You tube sucks it only allows me to comment 500 caricatures which does not allow me to say what I need to say. Ever sence Google bought Youtube it has gone down hill. Thanks Google.

  • Hi, I love this video. I embeded it into my website clearerperceptions info BUT the SOUND DOESN"T WORK now. Might u have an idea how to fix it? any help would be great. thanks

  • I do not have enough experience with web development to help you. I would suggest following some of the other links underneath this video and seeing how they do it.

  • Thank you for your responce :) The You-Tube support team helped me fix it ;)

  • All the false and misleading claims the wind industry makes for itself work to disguise the fact that it is only a nominal producer of electricity in the eastern US. Its primary purpose is to provide extraordinary tax and income sheltering opportunities for a few wealthy investors at the expense of average taxpayers and rate payers. On a per kilowatt hour basis, wind is the most heavily subsidized source of industrialized power in the nation.
