From 1:34 on its interesting, how he chooses to play the triplets (tuplets), because you can clearly hear them, but also figure out the melodic line behind them.
Interesting interpretation. The tempo marking is simply Lento, which given the generous rubato, I'd say it is. What strikes me though are the pronounced accents on the first two notes, and not so much the third, relative to the tempo. I think S. is really onto something her vis, the staccato markings of the first two notes when the figure recurs. This nicely sets up the sforzando at m.6 Very much about the compression and expansion. Coming out of the agitato faster makes a lot of sense too.
@SCaliforniaF it's only the middle that's this fast. i had to play this piece as well a month ago. play it slowly in the middle where it goes to allegro. out of the three note groups, make sure you make the first one louder than the rest, or else it will sound messed up.
@sumimimi0 actually, it's only slightly faster than normal. anyway different people have different interpretations of the piece. i've heard super slow versions and faster versions.
Interesting that at 1:53 and corresponding places he plays the B with the thumb of the right hand, together with the low C#, and then the chromatic descending line starting with E a fraction later -- first time I hear it like this.

Although there is a little too much rubato for my liking, this is still a very convincing and excellent performance.

You are in my mind. This is exactly what I would say if I had not seen your opinion. It is an incredible performance...

Magnifique morceau mélangeant classique et jazz. Magnifique. J'adore.

I think Rachmaninoff would have to reconsider this prelude if he had listened to this.

One of the best recordings of this piece. I also really like Gilels, but this one is so different...

Sofronitzky's recording of Etude-Tableau no. 6 op. 39 was amazing. How about uploading that?

As usual when this pianist plays (only in 4-5 pieces is not so), his version is my favourite among all.

His playing is *never* insincere or superficial.
