  • erm...which pixel is simon antonitch?

  • The big guy trained with Ric Flair in Verne's barn in Minnesota

  • Now THAT is wrestling. I wish they would do more of that in today's "sport"

  • This is one of three reels of footage. Each reel is approximately the same length. It is my fond hope the archive that so generously restored and digitized one reel will get to the other two.

  • @KenViewer Where did you get this information? Didn't see it anywhere on GaumontPatheArchives; and I would like to know more about it. With a bit of luck it could feature Paul Pons... (I'm not sure though that he wrestled in 1906, but as he did so in 1904, and was well known in France at this time, it is not impossible for him to have appeared in such a film).

Great to see Antonitch and Raoul le Boucher wrestling together, even if it's staged.

  • @MichelFarfadet

In research to determine whether this film was shown in the United States in 1906, demonstratiing the universal appeal of wrestling of that era, I found the American distributor copyrighted it as a three-reel release. I believe at least one more match was part of that three-reel film.

Can you tell us anything about Antonitch and the others in the film? In the U.S., there is little available on European stars of the time, unless they wrestled here.

  • @KenViewer

Actually it is difficult to find informations about these people in Europe too. You probably know them as well as me.

I wrote a mini-biography of Antonitch, but as it is too long to be posted here, I just put it in the description of my video : watch?v=mcG4mGQmFIM

Raoul le Bordelais was known both as a wrestler and as a referee (he was sometimes also credited as an administrator). Carpini is a mistery : I never managed to found any information about him.

  • where did you come across all these old films?

  • Vintage...just vintage! Props to whomever posted this! This is priceless!

  • fantastic to see such an old film with great wrestlers!

  • Great wrestling from the early 1900's, love the really tall man!

  • Different and fun! sg

  • Extraordinaire!!
