I feel most of the time, PK thunder body slams can be easily countered. Assuming there isn't anything preventing you, the victim, from moving (e.g. PK fire), you can always distance yourself from Ness/Lucas and wait for him to come at you so that you can shield grab him.
There're always some players who will jump up to try and trick you with a midair strike (to fool you with their aim), and while it may work against people attempting to dodge the attack, it won't beat a distanced shield grab.
Have you tried using Ness's other attack then using the PK Thunder attack on him? That might make another style to use, since that other PK move actually does more damage in a way and probably more range. Try it out! I'd call it Burst Style.

here got a few of my own as well, mostly if I am on midair on the side of the screens, on an edge mostly* while on midair many might try to hit you to know you down with a strong A down attack, or try to steal the grab on the edge so you fall, for me I confuse my opponents with Lucas PK thunder a bit and then use it on a horizontal form //, with Ness is easer to adjust the movemnets, although to counter attack it always do something to block it, thats why hardly use Ness PK thunder that much
I like PK thunder, but unfortunently with Ness it isn't a very good edgeguarding tool like it is with Lucas. Lucas can just zap them off the stage. Ness' human missile version has much more KO ability though.
@congokong87 I always use Ness PK Thunder as a finisher move instead of edgeguarding. Though Ness PK Thunder disappears after the head hits the opponent, it isn't impossible to edgeguard since the tail can stunned the opponent longer than Lucas.
