to me, I dont have a favorite doctor. I've loved them all. to me, theyre just 'The Doctor.' I really liked Eccleston, Tennant, and I also really like Matt Smith.
paul mcgann was suppose to be a series doctor but the movie they did with an american company faulted in rateings so they scrapped the 90s series of doctor who and until 2003 the series was owned by america so he does count. thumbs up for my run on sentence.
I've only just started watching Doctor Who and so I started with series 5 and Matt Smith is my doctor, I just can't love anyone else. I've seen David Tennant's version but I love Matt Smith more and I think it's because he's the first I got to know. That's probably what it is for everyone else who loves David most.
You don't know how much I hate Matt Smith's hair style as well as his face. I've stopped waching this series since he played as doctor. David Tennant is much more handsome, much more gentleman-like, and much more doctor-like. He is the best, if you ask me. @xx0960xx Don't give up! Matt is awesome as the Doctor (though he looks way too young). He nailed it right off the bat and hasn't let up since. Plus, the Moff is a far better writer than RTD. At least give it a chance!
@Pythosblaze I have to admit that Matt is a great Doctor. All Doctors are great Doctors, because they each have their own personalities. What I don't agree wtih is that Moffat is a better writer than RTD. His plots are reoccuring and uninspirational. I mean, cmon, practically every bloody episode includes Rory dying.
I'm afraid I can't agree otherwise, though. Moffat has done fabulous work on Series 5 and 6, and his episodes in the past series were generally superior. That's not to say RTD didn't do good stuff; he did. It's just that I much prefer Moffat's writing.
@Pythosblaze I totally agree that Moffat is a better writer. I was paying more attention to my fav. DW episodes from series' 2-4, to find that he wrote most of my favorite episodes! Plus, RTD had the Doctor erase Donna's memory which was completely unnecessary and i HATED it. Steven writes amazing scripts!

Chris Eccleston's cheery grins and his "Hello!" in this clip remind me why I fell in love with this series in the first place. Love David too, but I feel Christopher gets too often overlooked because he only did one season.

Because every video I've seen of Doctor Who on youtube recently is a companion discussion, I feel like I should be getting my two bits in. Amy Pond is the only companion of any of the eleven Doctors with the exception of the Romanas that offered anything to the Doctor in terms of ideas and help.
Matt's growing on me, but AMY POND is fucking annoying. She tries to act like David. She tries to be too clever for a companion and makes weird voices. She's ok sometimes, but I liked Rose and Martha better.

Martha was terrible, despite her being a 'med student', she didn't display any of the situational management and communication skills she was supposed to have. She just did a couple of typically 'doctor-y' things to point out that people were dead or had fainted..
Rose was alright, as she's supposed to be completely ordinary, and she kept up well with the story.
@doodl3bugg13 I'd say Donna Noble was more trying to be like The Tenth Doctor in the previous seasons; though I agree how Amy is a lot like, or very similar to The Tenth Doctor: She'd stand around, silent for a few minutes and eventually say something mediocre.

I wish Rory died out after she forgot him. They need to stop bringing him back. He doesn't add anything to the show in my opinion. But yea, I thought Amy was nice until she started getting a little too sarcastic. Always calling everyone stupid or acting like she knows better constantly. It's a bit much.

Guys, stop hating on Matt Smith. Yes, I am a die-hard David Tennant fan, and in my opinion no one could ever surpass him. However, in my opinion, Matt is pretty darn close. He brings this whole new life to the Doctor, making him "worse than everyone's aunt." He seems older and wiser, but he's still youthfully funny. David was incredible. In a sense, since being there for so long, he had so much of a time being able to develop more of the modern role and get people to realize who the Doctor really is. He did a damn good job at it, too. He was an amazing Doctor. My favorite, actually.
But Matt Smith is really good as well, and I don't think he does deserve the crap he's getting. He's made the Doctor his own and I respect him for that. They're both great.
I've watched Dr Who from the beginning, and (sorry, DT fans) there should never be point where one actor=The Doctor. Every actor from Hartnell to Smith has brought a new aspect to the character, and the concept of change is an integral part of the way the whole thing works. To a REAL fan, they're all still there, Hartnell Troughton, Pertwee, et al. The Doctor is the summation of his previous reincarnations. Personally, I thought Tennant became TOO human. Matt's doing a damn good job.
@mseaborne I know that no one actor should be the Doctor, however, everyone will have their favorites. Also, I think that it's unfair to say that only real fans are those who recognize the earlier doctors. No, I have not watched the old stuff, nor do I have any intention to. However, I consider myself as real a fan as any. That should be determined by how much you love the show, not by how much you recognize the key concepts. But yes, I can see Christopher and David and Matt in this Doctor.
I actually like Matt :) He's a good actor and he makes me laugh. This is coming from the girl who watched David Tennant's regeneration 21 times before it hit me. So... Matt Smith doesn't deserve the hate he's getting because it was David's choice to leave, nobody kicked him off the set. Yay for Matt :)

@PrincessaDevil Matt Smith is awesome because he doesn't form the same relationships David did. Rather he is more mysterious and fun and so different. But I must admit that David was the best doctor for me. He was everything the doctor should be. Kind, crazy, serious, inspiring etc.. Plus he formed great relationships. For many it was the sex appeal which made them love him but he has much more than that. :)

People will always prefer "their doctor", but Doctor Who is bigger than just 1 actor... DT's doctor was awesome with Rose, great with Donna, but a bit too depressive with Martha & alone. I personally think Matt Smith is great - he had a tough act to follow and is playing the part way beyond his years - he really is convincing as a quirky 900-and-something-year-old Time Lord!

@DarksFilms That could never happen. However David Tennant could play the clone of himself who's with Rose. But I don't think Moffat will bring back past characters except maybe Captain Jack, who he created.
@DarksFilms David is gone, and even still they won't regress a regeneration or let an actor retake the role unless he teams up with the incumbent. It would ruin the show to have David return specifically as the main Doctor in the TARDIS.
Personally, I think David was there for a visit; however, if he was there to be in the show he could either be another character or more likely a past Doctor coming to help.

Matt's growing on me, but AMY POND is fucking annoying. She tries to act like David. She tries to be too clever for a companion and makes weird voices. She's ok sometimes, but I liked Rose and Martha better.

@doodl3bugg13 Actually.. It's kinda nice when you have a companion who actually has a competent level of intelligence as a human being.
Martha was terrible, despite her being a 'med student', she didn't display any of the situational management and communication skills she was supposed to have. She just did a couple of typically 'doctor-y' things to point out that people were dead or had fainted..
Rose was alright, as she's supposed to be completely ordinary, and she kept up well with the story.

@doodl3bugg13 I'd say Donna Noble was more trying to be like The Tenth Doctor in the previous seasons; though I agree how Amy is a lot like, or very similar to The Tenth Doctor: She'd stand around, silent for a few minutes and eventually say something mediocre.

@doodl3bugg13 I found her to be refreshing actually. I liked the wit and clash between her and the doctor at first. But I definitely would like to see a new companion soon. I wish Rory died out after she forgot him. They need to stop bringing him back. He doesn't add anything to the show in my opinion. But yea, I thought Amy was nice until she started getting a little too sarcastic. Always calling everyone stupid or acting like she knows better constantly. It's a bit much.

However, I would strongly suggest you take a glance at the old stuff if you want to consider yourself a real fan: it's worth seeing how the whole thing developed.

Guys, stop hating on Matt Smith. Yes, I am a die-hard David Tennant fan, and in my opinion no one could ever surpass him. However, in my opinion, Matt is pretty darn close. He brings this whole new life to the Doctor, making him "worse than everyone's aunt." He seems older and wiser, but he's still youthfully funny. And, I suspect that when the time comes for him to leave he will have fans commenting one videos like this, bashing on the new Doctor and defending Matt. So, Matt Smith, good luck!

David was incredible. In a sense, since being there for so long, he had so much of a time being able to develop more of the modern role and get people to realize who the Doctor really is. He did a damn good job at it, too. He was an amazing Doctor. My favorite, actually.
But Matt Smith is really good as well, and I don't think he does deserve the crap he's getting. He's made the Doctor his own and I respect him for that. They're both great.

I've watched Dr Who from the beginning, and (sorry, DT fans) there should never be point where one actor=The Doctor. Every actor from Hartnell to Smith has brought a new aspect to the character, and the concept of change is an integral part of the way the whole thing works. To a REAL fan, they're all still there, Hartnell Troughton, Pertwee, et al. The Doctor is the summation of his previous reincarnations. Personally, I thought Tennant became TOO human. Matt's doing a damn good job.

@mseaborne I know that no one actor should be the Doctor, however, everyone will have their favorites. Also, I think that it's unfair to say that only real fans are those who recognize the earlier doctors. No, I have not watched the old stuff, nor do I have any intention to. However, I consider myself as real a fan as any. That should be determined by how much you love the show, not by how much you recognize the key concepts. But yes, I can see Christopher and David and Matt in this Doctor.

I actually like Matt :) He's a good actor and he makes me laugh. This is coming from the girl who watched David Tennant's regeneration 21 times before it hit me. So... Matt Smith doesn't deserve the hate he's getting because it was David's choice to leave, nobody kicked him off the set. Yay for Matt :)

@PrincessaDevil Matt Smith is awesome because he doesn't form the same relationships David did. Rather he is more mysterious and fun and so different. But I must admit that David was the best doctor for me. He was everything the doctor should be. Kind, crazy, serious, inspiring etc.. Plus he formed great relationships. For many it was the sex appeal which made them love him but he has much more than that. :)

People will always prefer "their doctor", but Doctor Who is bigger than just 1 actor... DT's doctor was awesome with Rose, great with Donna, but a bit too depressive with Martha & alone. I personally think Matt Smith is great - he had a tough act to follow and is playing the part way beyond his years - he really is convincing as a quirky 900-and-something-year-old Time Lord!

@DarksFilms David is gone, and even still they won't regress a regeneration or let an actor retake the role unless he teams up with the incumbent. It would ruin the show to have David return specifically as the main Doctor in the TARDIS.
Personally, I think David was there for a visit; however, if he was there to be in the show he could either be another character or more likely a past Doctor coming to help.

Never overstay your welcome. As for Smith, I AM NOT AMUSED! Well, only a bit in episode 13 lol. He's just way to silly for me. I hope the Doctor and companions don't get any younger. I know kids watch this show, but the more edgier Doctors have been my favorite, quirky as some of those may have been. .
