Great job man! I do the same thing here in S FL. I find it easier when I use the flat trowel (without notches) when I do the buttering. I've been doing this a long time and I really havent seen much of an advantage to using the notches. Just a suggestion. Keep on Keepin on!
As for Emotikas question, you obviously do not live in an area where there are earthquakes nor excessive changes in atmospheric pressure. Were the travertine to be butted one against the other, cracking and warping would certainly ensue...As for using spacers, well, every "artist" has their own flare... so leave it there...
Under TCNA, at least a 16/ inch spacer is required to do your job, that is because climate changes, concrete expantion and all that stuff, it does look nicer with pieces tight but not recomended.
AWESOME! :)

I noticed the professionals always lay stone down on a mortar bed. I have seen where they use two pieces of level wood and screed the mortar flat.

Good stuff...I've never seen this method of bonding nor do I see a reason for it but the finish is awesome.

Nice job but why are you using spacers?
Next time butt the stone tile together, it will look even nicer and you then you can call yourself an artist, right now you are one of many
