  • Faaack... now its jamming at 7:22, wtf! Right at the best bits!

  • this vid seems to be jamming at 4:10 now - anyone else get this?

  • Recent college grad, heading off to med school soon. Gonna have an even GREATER debt now.

College was basically paying 50K a year for people to read books to you in class.

  • Some of his views on the market I prescribe to, but some his stances seem a bit too staunchly Libertarian. He argues that government subsidies on college education create more degrees and drive demand down among College graduates. Not really accurate.. First of all, in most cases employers are not looking for masters, phD etc. These are usually niche jobs. Employers are looking for SKILLS. A college degree doesn't guarantee that you have skills, it's merely a stepping stone.

  • I agree 100% per cent with Mr. Schiff on the education scam we are forced to accept. I have a BA degree. And if I had any money (remember that BA degree?) I would be sending some to him!

  • Peter Schiff is a douchebag. His investments are down 70%!!!! What a dumbass!!!!!

  • His real name is Dr. Doom

  • Sure. His Euro Pacific Capital Accounts lost up to 70% in 2008. That is seriously crappo performance.

  • While Schiff was indeed among those who called the recession, everything he has called since then has been wrong. If you think he is competent, either he is doing you up the butt or you are incapable of coherent thought.

  • man, this NEEDS to be put in the senate right now!!!!!...this dude not only knows about economy, but he's smart as fuck, real, and can speak well!!!!!

  • Education inflation. Pretty soon you will need a degree to work at McDonald's.

  • You are so spot on about college education. It took me a BA, MEd, and education specialist degrees to complete my training in my field (education-ugh!). Took 8 yrs. I was a person who "was in there forever." I look back now, and I feel duped for having done it. I was 27 years old before I truly entered the workforce in my field.

Look at high school grad tests from 1910 compared to now. It was more difficult back then, proving your point ppl don't learn more, it's just drug out more.

  • Dear Peter,

    You are an idiot.

    All the best,

    Eric

  • Yes we can!

By the way I hate the quote, it illustrates how naive most Americans are believing such nonsense. Obama like Bush is doing his best to bankrupt this country, so it seems, but people truly believe our economy is recovering.

  • so who is gonnna help the homeless, the people? it better be the government or we will drive by the homeless while the number grows just like you... WRONG!

  • Dear Peter,

I really enjoy watching your YouTube movies. There is only one aspect which I disagree in this YouTube movie. In properly governed economy which you are fighting for the health sector can have potential to generate money if you have health tourists coming to USA. I live in a country were this kind of tourism is actually happening. Unfortunately, it is not as much I would like to.

Thanks for posting on YouTube and giving us free education.

    best,

    RadoslawSzymanek

  • I moved to a town where I would welcome a job droping fries at Mcdonalds...there are no jobs at all.

  • And no you didnt directly say any of those things like that to me, when you say shit like "Liberal Marxists" i know that our convo wont get far before you start that shit with me. So i'll save us both the trouble and not have the convo in the 1st place.

  • @729Drew I really with I could find some old posts on youtube from a year ago. I'm NOT your enemy. I will try to find those posts for you though, and send you a PM.

  • best jobs are city jobs, government jobs, and medical field.

  • LOL! You are right, more hospital workers are not going to contribute to the economy. I think Agriculture would help the economy. We need grow our own food and stop exporting because it makes food expensive.

  • Peter,

I'm a current student at the University of California. I know that you are also an alumni from the same system. This state subsidized system does not follow the typical market rules of which you speak and right now the UC's are in the middle of a budget crisis in which professors are getting pay cuts and students' tuition will rise 32% by next year. As a former UC student, how would you sympathize with us, what stance would you have taken if you were in CA, and how would you justify this?

  • @evilminion89 I'd say get liberal marxists out of Universities for a start so the people could leave college with half a brain!

  • lol easy there red state, do all the worlds problems boil down to "Liberals" for you guys or just selective ones? Just seems like an easy scapegoat, whether it be liberal or conservative

  • @729Drew Are you open minded enough to hear the truth? Do you want to see why we're upset?

  • LOL no i dont want to hear it, Because for the last 8 years everytime someone, including myself, brought up a problem or an issue with say, The Patriot Act or a host of other issues we had with W. we got ignored, or ridiculed. I heard alot of, "IF you dont like it, get outta my country"...as if its not my country 2. But because i happen to differ with conservative ideals, i'm somehow less of an American or Person all-together.

  • @729Drew That isn't true. I was RIGHT THERE WITH YOU against the patriot act and many other issues, like gitmo and the Iraq war.

  • When you say things like "Marxists Liberals" you paint yourself into the Glenn Beck corner...ppl who say things for ratings and money, sensationalism and divisiveness...If thats NOT you, then i apologize in advance, just be aware of how your comments reflect on you, reguardless of intention. Represent for Drew's around the world lol

  • good observation on college degrees. Didnt take it all the way though, and that is that to do ANYTHING you will need some governemnt approved piece of paper, be it a gardening or painting the walls

  • Good vid Peter as always! we should play that "no stopping" breakdance song!

  • You ROCK!!!

  • Excellent as always!

  • Im one of those unemployed, been calling Man power for the last 3-4 months and they keep telling me "Theres nothing right now but we will put you on the hot list". SSHHHIIIIITT!,and people think things are getting better. If things dont get better im gonna grow pot and start a delivery service because Im tired of this shit along with so many others in the same position.

  • Let me know when you start this "Delivery Service" lol you can put me on your route

  • Great vid, everyone needs to donate for Schiff for Senate, we need him there!

  • Thanks again Peter.

    Have a great day.

  • Rothschild's family owns more then 50% of world's economy. Schiff family and Rothschild family were war profiteers since Napoleon times.

Rothschild is trying to get of its gold - people want food, shelter and jobs not gold in a depression.

  • JUDALATION: So you assume that anyone who wouldn't go to college would have to become criminal. And woun't the McDonald burgers become very expensiv to have all the employes go throu college? Cause if you haven't noticed, there are alot of basic work that needs to be done in the society that most people with a college degree can't coupe with. Without those workers nothing will continue running.

  • Hey Mr. Schiff. Your senatorial-run plug in the Glen Beck show was tactlessly played :P

Still hope you win though. Hope to God, even though I have no use for the big guy...

  • You know... Becoming Amish doesn't sound such a bad idea after all.

  • Peter should distance himself from Beck, I'm sure there must be someone else to talk to.

  • "What a real shame, uh a real tragedy that happened, uh, happened over there"

    lol

  • Oh yes we can tax ourself out of this mess, just like when I stand in a bucket and pull on the handle to lift myself up, not smart is it?

  • Glen Beck? You seemed so down to earth and sane to me.

  • U6 has to higher then 17%.

  • Damn right about dragging your feet through it, Peter. College is worthless. I am learning nothing. Most everything I know about politics and economics (and other subjects) comes from my own research. I am just wasting time and money...but without that stupid piece of paper you get no respect.

  • Lord,please send me a Mercedes Benz

no one will give it to me,not even my friends

I can't go the college, cause nonwhites get them all

and all of them are there to play basketball

Lord, please pay of my house note,it's way over due

I got too many kids, cause I just love to screw

and please send this guy to congress, cause he sure does seem smart

even though when he speaks ,he looks like he's smelling a fart

  • hehe amen lets get this man in congress and start the renovation.

  • I'd vote for you in a heartbeat, but not if you are sharing going to be in the party w/ Limbaugh and Beck, they scare the hell out of me.

  • pretty interesting what i heard Webster Tarpley say about Schiff recently...check him out, anyone else here listen to that? i doubt it, but it'd be nice to find some like minded criticizers/questioners

  • chriscunanan i do. i didn't hear what he said about schiff but I will look it up.

  • Love this post. I totally agree with Peter regarding the value of a college degree and how it has deteriorated over the past several decades. This is exactly why I went to graduate school in the first place, and yet at times I still feel that it's not quite "enough."

  • very informitive vid. although i heard gerald celente say that the real unemployment is closer to 22%

  • Peter Schiff,

Can you speak to what policies you would support in regards to studen loans? Right now the legislation makes it impossible to liquify this debt yet there is no way that any students getting out of school now or in the recent future will be able to pay back their loans.

  • judalation: Its true, as long as the education gives theire students some new knowlege. But as the goverment takes over and keeps funding it with tax-money, noone is making sure that the education really benefit students. Remember the basic of human, thats gread, feer and beeing lazy. It a teacher can make the same sallary by teaching 10 students like teaching 20 they choose 10 without even beeing able to give them some better quality education.

  • False... America is a world power because of its investment in education. People with a college degree earn far more than those without one, and pay more taxes. If you reduce the number of college grads then you would pay more for prisons and welfare as well as police. Your choice...

  • @JUDALATION Just because you've got an education doesn't give you a higher sallary. And just because you haven't got an education doesn't make you a criminal. America got to be the world power because you could do hard work (invent stuff that ppl want) without having to pay most of your earnings in taxes. And no, you dont have to pay for welfare, its just politicians who wants to be re-elected that does that.

  • if you have money problems dont pay tax!!

  • Let me guess. You in foreclosure and you angry.

  • its time...

  • Your right about education. I have a law degree and an economics degree and I still can't find work. I am "overqualified" for the positions I apply for or I don't have enough work experience... (its hard to get work experience when you are in school for years on end as a full time student).

  • A good bit of it is simply who you know unfortunately.

He has very good pts, schooling is just another business.

  • Quit applying at McDonalds. I need that job flippin burgers.

  • yay the democrats saved the world again!

  • US House of Representatives narrowly passed the health care reform bill. Now let's be clear.

There is a WORLD of difference between universal health insurance and universal health care. Health insurance for all does not guarantee you will receive treatment. When everyone is forced to take on health insurance costs will skyrocket not decrease.

Insurance let's people bid up the price. Insurance companies are for profit like any business. Businesses will consolidate into an oligopoly.

  • Why do people vote for dodd? he is a corrupt seasoned politician. Any one who makes a career out of spending someone elses money is usually not serving the best interests of his district.

  • I hope you have a good campaign manager. Listen to him.

Chris Dodd is a seasoned politician. He'll paint you as a Chicken Little--the person who predicts doom everyday is bound to be right once in his life. His weakness is the part he played in creating this recession, as well as his role in the Enron debacle. Good luck.

  • "My point is the US system is already dead. It's past the point of no return. Why Peter thinks he can make any difference is beyond me"

Because true patriots don't accept the way things are, they try to change them. And because someone needs to point out the mistakes, so they're not made again.

With the credit card companies jacking up rates and everything else going on, it's going to be a bad winter. Invest in yourself, stock up on supplies. Be prepared.

  • You can get a better education listening to guys like Schiff. Save your money, or give it to Schiff is a better bet.

  • I've been trying to get a grip on Chinese government tax and spending rates, and I do believe that presently they are lower than the United States. Our government is now surpassing "communist" China in its spending rate as a percent of GDP, the best I can deterimine.

  • spot on about education. They are soley a for profit entity.

  • This is far Greater than the Great Depression. It's fatal, there is no salvation for the USA. It's narrow minded to compare the Great Depression by unemployment alone. Look at difference in respects to debt burden, wages, living standards, inflation, health care costs, etc. No $million mortgages back then. Money had value back then. Inflation did not skyrocket back then. Wage to living standards ratio was MUCH better. So when someone is unemployed today they don't ever recover even with a job.

  • Does anyone else believe that the goal for obama is to try and devalue the dollar to slash the debt to china and have a canada like health care option so that canadians and europeans will come here and spend their dollars (on houses cars etc.) which are now worth way more than ours? I mean if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. I could be wrong though.

  • Anyone catch the article in the Chronicle this week where 23 college presidents banked over 1 million dollars! Or how about the one where 58 colleges surpassed the 50K this year for total expenses? Talk about fleecing the young in this country!

  • Amen to the comments on Education.

  • He has a saintly glow in this vid

  • Yes, the force is strong with this one.

  • What's your Stance on Secession Peter?

  • Mr Schiff are you a Zionist? What is your opinion on Israel?

  • I think Israel is the shit.

  • I hope he will upgrade the video quality.

  • 9th November 2009 will be the mother of all crashes, as everyone for Gold dashes. Silver too its price does swell as paper money goes to hell.

Money multiplies half again and silver is more than gold in ten.

Bread is 4 then 6 then 10, mouths will feel the hunger then.

Keep your family safe from harm, silver coins work like a charm. Storing food is good for you as supermarkets raided too.

When man realises he controls the world through united mind and ways of old.

  • I mean you'd think with all the technology that,s available today, historical hindsight, mathematical expertise, big advances in science and medical diciplines we would actually have model economies. Health and Wealth should be thriving in the western world. In fact I bet someone could even come up with an algorithm to calibrate all the social and financial variables..All they'd have to do is tweak the component going wrong,, good luck Peter..

  • Peter Schiff for President! :)

  • I agree, let us hope that we can actually get Chris Dodd out-of-office, and look for Schiff in the white house down the road. Peter Schiff would be an excellent Commander In Chief!

  • I agree - way to go Peter!

  • good points peter

  • Am I the only one having trouble posting?

I was able to initially, but I can't seem to do so anymore...

  • That worked.

    Maybe I just can't reply.

    Hmmm....

  • Thumbs down for a legitimate question - cool - thanks...

I still cannot reply to those who posted responses to my earlier comments below.

    I'm not sure why...

  • Everybody:

Our only hope, if we want ANY financial future for ourselves, for our children, TO FORCE OUR GOVERNMENT TO STOP BORROWING AND SPENDING, is to tell foreign governments and any would-be investors, lenders, etc.:

    WE WON'T PAY

    WE WON'T PAY

Our only hope is to get the government to stop borrowing against our future, and our only hope of getting that to happen is to tell buyers of U.S. treasuries what they should already know: the bonds will never be paid back.

  • In the UK we have a "Housing Executive" Who look after government homes for the people. But not just that. The government is such an easy touch we also have "Housing Associations" who make money hiring out homes to the Housing Executive.

But EVERYTIME a new tenant moves into one of these government/housing association properties they send in workers to rip up the carpet, throw beds and furniture to the dump, etc, wasting money and resources that no landlord would dream off!!

  • I feel sorry for this generation of kids going to college today.

P.S. - The AVERAGE Goldman Sachs employee will make $750,000 in 2009.

  • That's exactly how I've been feeling about higher education in this country, well without having compared it to the days of yore. But that even sheds more clarity on what a racket the university/student loan system is in this country. I'm quite positive that 90% of the degrees offered at colleges are garbage anyway. There is no longer a bubble to scoop up the kids riding the "garbage degree" to "basic white collar" professional anymore, either.

  • What is happenning to us in the USA, is what happened to Argentina in 2001. If you don't believe me....look up the 2001 collapse of Agentina here on youtube. It's a 12 part documentary. It will really open your eyes!!!

  • Good blog Pete... I love the passion! lol

  • Ther stockmarket was created more than 400 years a go and has been a sham the whole time.

When you put money in stock, -penny stock , or any other stock , you are taking money out of circulation and putting it in the hands of the fat cats who aren't even in business, as far as really developing a company.

The Rothschilds helped to move this ponzy scheme along and have financed the Morgans' and the Rockefellars' back in the 1800's; which inflated the value of oil and transportation.

  • right on!

  • Thank you Peter Schiff for speaking the the truth about what healthcare really is. Americans spend more on healthcare then any other nation but America ranks 49th in life expectancy. America also has the highest obesity rant in the world. Healthcare in America is grossly overpriced and overrated.

A Healthy diet, regular exercise and a positive attitude is the best medicine there is, it's a lot less expensive than any drugs the pharmies make and has no dangerous side effect.

  • I wouldn't say it's overrated.

In Norway for instance, which is one of those financially sound free markets, if you're 70 years old roll into the emergency room, shitting blood with colon cancer, they just load you with morphine and stick you in a corner to die. Here, any person, for any reason, goes to the emergency room and is treated accordingly. Our health care system is an, unsustainable LUXURY that's bankrupting us. So, to your point, overpriced, but not overrated.

  • I hope you are being sarcastic about Norway being one of those "financially sound free markets".

  • Glenn Beck show huh? Now that'll be an intellectually unbalanced conversation, if any. Beck is insane, whereas Schiff is probably the most clear-thinking conservative in America.

  • yes Beck is crazy...but he's not wrong. Still, I have noticed that Glenn has let his guests even speak now and then lately. I think he is finally getting the idea that to have guests on and not let them speak is pointless. Even Beck can learn a new one. I love them both

  • dude, i like you an what you got to say,but i hope you didnt kill your chances at what your running for,,sorry to say but it didnt sound like you had much simpathy for the people of that " incedent " ,,sounded like you were more interested in your own t.v interview,,,coming from a canadian prespective,,,wish you all best, cheers.

  • Peter is more of a thinker than a feeler.

However, he did re-visit the topic as his parting message.

10-20 people mass shootings are becoming weekly events here so, what's to say about it. people are going ape shit for all kins of different reasons.

Ironically enough, if we'd follow his economic and foreign policy advice, there'd be much more prosperity and far fewer"incidences".

  • "Peter is more of a thinker than a feeler".

I think Perter is more of a person that doesn't have his ass glued to a television set.

  • Student loans is 1 point I disagree with Peter about.

Education is CAPITAL, and a highly educated population is a more productive one.

All sectors of the economy benefit from the abundance of professional staff.

Even though this is an unnecessary intervention, I think this is something the Government actually DOES get right.

Housing grants are still wreckless though.

  • "Education is CAPITAL, and a highly educated population is a more productive one."

You are assuming that professional people can only be provided by colleges, liberal arts colleges at that; which is highly speculative. Trade schools and even internships often fill that void.

In the meantime, the population largely becomes impovershed by debt.

Clearly, this road to hell was also paved by good intentions.

  • I'm saying education is a good investment, not that it's the ONLY way to fill these vacancies.

  • Peter is a master teacher

  • really enjoyed your speaking on education again. would have been better, however, if you could have addressed why you think your father's attending UConn and being able to pay for it with a part-time job supports your notion that government should stay out of education. actually sounds to make like an argument for more government involvement. you're not a closet socialist, are you, shiff?

  • | loved the education part. So true. Those parasites in education should be hanged.

  • Clean off your webcam lens.

  • Christopher - The Hacker - Dodd

  • Comment removed

  • I heard Pentagon, CIA, Homeland Security and FBI are about to storm D.C. b/c they find out there are 98 suicide bombers in Senate ready to blow US economy up.

Seriously this sucks. The entire Senate is clueless about how economy works.

  • The more I listen to Peter Schiff, the more EVERYTHING makes sense!

    Peter Schiff is the MAN!!

By the way, in this video Peter seems to be "glowing" with some godly aurora.

  • how many people got a master in credit default swaps????? i know that is not a degree. this is the bs that people are going to school to learn

  • I believe the saved and created category must be for placement temp to hire/temp contract companies. There has been an explosion of these Pimps, supplying the Johns out there with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) monies

Emotional Intelligence is worth more than any diploma but Human Resource Departments havent a freaking clue

Pretty tired of being treated as a whore

  • Peter your the best!! You remind me of my Dad who was a no BS kind of guy, very smart and could see right through all the phony baloney.

  • Good stuff Peter. Every day I am more amazed at how bad the government is at simple problem solving. The bigger the government the dumber the government.

  • a college degree is basically a tax on the new worker. Every family pays $30-$100Kor worse the 18year old goes into immediate debt sponsored by the government.

Now, like Peter says, everyone has a Marketing degree...wow that was tough, party for 4 years, learn some basic incorrect fundamentals about the economy that will be of 0 help to you in the real world. Now go get a $30k job at best and spend the next 10 years accumlating more debt and deferring payment on your stundent loan - LOL

  • dont forget all the 1099 people like realtors mortgage brokers, etc that are not part of unemployment as they cannot collect benefits...How many realtors/MBs are out of work?

  • 370 ratings from 320 views.how wierd? Are they reducing the views on this channel?

  • true that...i had to get my undergrad degree from canada and now getting my masters from UK and getting ready to do my CFA exams and still not employed or had enough work expereince only 2 years....we study so hard and yet get nothing in return...it's a rat race....God help us graduates

  • Peter, how come nobody ever reports college graduates? New college graduates that are looking for jobs after college can not file for unemployment (duh) and they flood the market every year. I think this is a huge number that should put the unofficial rate over 20%. Not to mention most of them graduate with a load of debt they need to pay off. If they can't find jobs wouldn't they default and hurt the student loan companies? i.e. SLM?

  • Peter,

So refreshing to see someone in politics (and I guess since you are running you are in) speaking right from the heart and mind without faking teleprompters or written script. You are a natural and we simply do not see this anymore. Now every move is carefully connived and contrived. Pre-planned based on anything but the nation's and the people's good. Keep this up! and thanks.

    James

  • >As far as nations without governments, there are none; I've already did the research.

what makes you think there arent humans living on this planet that live in a "named" country? you cant be sure of anything there. just because google doesnt find something, doesnt mean it cant exist

  • Peter, you're glowing!

  • Hello Peter, thank you for your voice of integrity and common sense.

A rare light in the darkness.

    Cheers,

    mike

  • Looking at the comments below this one Obama has failed miserably to unite the people. However, there is a majority that is uniting against Obama and his marxist policies. Thank you Peter for taking a leadership role in the fight against the traitors and tyrants in the Obama administration and their co-conspirators at the Fed.

  • good luck Peter hope you end up president.

  • The world's elites would never let him be President.

  • Unemployment is already at about 22% according to John Williams' Shadow Stats.

  • Peter sounds "fired up" and "ready to go"!

  • Real estate prices will inevitably come down. So, anyone buying under these cash incentives we ultimately be "immediately" upside-down, prolly for years. When you buy a property today, you are letting someone off-the-hook, and putting yourself at risk.

  • People in health care need to be supported by the productive jobs? I respond to 911 calls; I'm the one supporting you when you're dying.

I don't like these blanketing statements that discredit services. How important is the factory that produces lawn ornaments and rubber ducks? Wealth doesn't have to be defined by how many natural resources we can convert into products, most of which we don't need.

  • "I respond to 911 calls; I'm the one supporting you when you're dying. "

    How often does that happen

  • Saw you on FOX it must be good to be P. Schiff.

  • "Cyber Saboteurs", lol

  • I wish they would just end the homebuyer tax credit even though I am looking to buy a home and would qualify as a first time homebuyer.

The credit has the effect of increasing home prices by a lot more than $8K by bringing in a new pool of buyers who use it toward their 3.5% FHA downpayment. In my area the effect of the tax credit has probably increased home prices by at least $45-55K. That's exactly what the govt wants -- higher taxes and higher prices.

  • you can not use the 8,000 toward the downpayment. HUD retracted that months ago.

  • I don't think they did, but even if that were so people can still borrow against the credit using bridge loans. The effect is still the same.

  • it is not the effect nor the correct information.

  • with all these online schools, anyone can be a Dr. =p

  • Yes big government..please take all our money and then save us!!!!

  • nice office!

  • Pete always appreciate your vids. Thank you. I have no idea why U would want to be a part of the corruption salad that has our nation in it's grasp. ! ?

  • That's right about college. I've been there for so many years trying to do different courses and non of it really interests me. In fact there's some people who DO have degrees and there continuing there work in retail and what not cause they can't find a job.

Your absolutely right Peter about college, and that's right you do need to get a phd, masters etc. to be somewhere as a bachelors is not looked highly upon.

  • Thanks Peter! College is a hot topic! I'm one of the students getting ripped off.

  • What is truly ironic is that the people or groups that are ripping of the students of the USA, are eventually going to see the monies they have stolen turn to NOTHING, during the coming hyperinflation.

There is no truer statement than the following, "Greed inevitably brings about its own end".

    Why?

As what they have is simply NEVER enough, they always WANT more.

  • Wowzer, 1 out of 5 Americans are unemployed. Goodness me, you gainfully employed folks are really bearing the tax-brunt of this bad-boy. That sounds almost un-American.

lol, but hey, the USD went UP again today on that rosy news. From that you know this entire market, both equity and currency is nothing more than a ponzi-scheme designed to ruin most people....lol. Man I love this game.

  • The demand for healthcare jobs is a direct reflection of how sick America really is. It's partially due to the quality of food and the amount of stress and unhappiness Americans deal with on a daily basis. That's what happens when you have a society that bases happiness primarily off material possessions. Then you include how isolated and separated we all are in suburbia and you get the current American condition. America is extremely ill. It's truly sad.

  • The primary reason our system puts so much emphasis on a college education is 'college eduction = debt = profit.' It's a major money producing machine. Does anyone really think it's actually about the education? Give me a break. Most college kids I know are just as dumb coming out of college as they were going in. Start a school or religion, become the next multi-millionaire.

  • vociti said:

"college education = debt = profit"

Well, if hyperinflation hits, I'll be able to pay off my $80k student loan on a week's pay, if not less.

  • wow if Chris Dodd actually had cyber saboteurs attack Schiff's site then he deserves death.

not that I wouldnt kill him anyway heh

  • I very much appreciate your advice and analysis. But Glen Beck is a crock. He is dishonest and spins facts like a hyper centrifuge. Don´t go there. (Or Alex Jones, or any other right wing wacko) It was really nice to see you at the Jon Stewarts show.

  • My take on Beck and Jones is that they may approach things with some fanaticism and possibly their own agenda, but they're also presenting valid information

As long as we can extract the facts, are inspired to do our own research, and aren't swayed by instructions from any "personality" I'm cool with Beck, Jones and other sources

Beck pushes Palin as some sort of savior which is laughable, but I don't need him to specify who I should support or why, just to expose negative Governmental actions

  • Great article by Edward Dijkstra describing the relationship of academia to industry. Just search for the web article as EWD 1175

  • The problem we have with education is we have a 19th Century School system for 21st Century students!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We focus on useless things in school that don't help people at work. Sure it's nice to study philosophy or a second language but do we really need to waste time with it if your goal is to be an electrical engineer? We need more job specific learning.

  • Maybe you're right when it comes to being good at a specific occupation. But when it comes to being an informed citizen and having the tools required to *think* and process information so that we are able do things like, say, vote for the right person in a Senate race ;) - I guess I'd have to say we also need classes that teach us how think critically, logically, and independently. I don't believe the establishment desires this kind of informed citizenry... to hard to control.

  • Also, you've mentioned that it is hard to compete because so many people now have their degrees. How come better educated population is bad? Wouldn't it result in higher value jobs and better value for the society as whole? Unless I am missing something, I perceived your message as we don't need so many educated people. Then how are you going to compete with Chinese or Indians? What will be the value of an American worker, if his/her education way below its completion from other countries?

  • The problem with just sending everybody to school and giving them degrees is that it doesn't necessarily make people smarter or more competitive.

The fact that more people are getting college degrees now simply suggests that they're easier to acquire, not that people are getting smarter.

The people who really wanted to study hard now have it much harder because the government subsidizes education and feeds the corrupt academic systems.

  • The end result will be a lot of debt and arrogant young adults who want jobs as web developers.

  • Education doesn't make anyone smarter. It gives necessary background and skills. In our days, a well-trained monkey to do a job of what was considered to be a respectable manufacturing position 50 years ago. You need to advance a little from being a manufacturer worker to someone offering more value. Otherwise, prepare to be paid for the value you create - about $1,000-$2,000 annually.

  • I'm actually having "the college discussion" with my wife about our daughter.

I personally think college is a waste of time and money - especially when so many college grads wind up working at Target and Starbucks.

My wife is $40,000 in debt and she gets laid off every one to two years. We move around so much we may never feel part of a community and it negatively affects my daughter when we have to move.

College education/college debt seems much too restrictive for what you get in return.

  • save for it anyways. Itll be her choice not yours.

  • Well, in Canada, you can do your MBA in 3 years part-time, while working full-time, and come out of school with no debt.

The question is what kind of job can you do without education that Chinese or Indian will not be able to do for less? Assembly line for iPods? Steel mill? Knitting? With globalization it is hard to shield yourself from competition. In the future, there will be no justification to pay even at today's level to the US production workers. That's why everything is off-shored.

  • Peter,

Thanks for clarifying your view on education assistance.

I still have to disagree. The cost is driven by demand. The demand is driven by value. Yes, education may carry lesser value than 80 years ago. But people still view its value exceeding their investment in education. Otherwise, no one would have done it. And of course the price shoot up - higher demand and the same supply equates to higher price.
