uhmm,, the bass is kinda distorted in some way.. i min i cnt feel the bass in the song, , its like it has to have some identity in the cover, ,seems like the sound of the bass was like recorded in the amplifier with the use of a microphone. .but overall,, great cover as always bt nt perfect. . just very close to perfect. .i luv MJ so as u do bt u knw,, jst suggesting. :)) im a fan of yours so im jst concern of sme improvements that you might like to consider. .hihi

@juanitotrrj you're pretty correct in thinking the bass is distorted, but wrong in thinking that I used an amplifier and microphone. Nothing wrong with recording the amp, it's actually my preferred method. But this time I mixed two D.I. boxes. One was solid state, the other was a tube D.I. I put in most of the clean signal with the heavy driven tube sound underneath it. Tube distortion is the cornerstone of most classic, vintage bass sounds. So if you like tubes, then you'd like this bass sound!

It's a Spector ReBop 5 DLX. I'm using mostly just the bridge pickup for an old school Musicman tone. But it still kind of sounds too 80s session musician for me. I'm slightly boosting the highs with the Active preamp. I would've used one of my Fenders but I really dislike tuning my bass a half step down to get that low E flat.
