Chomsky only presumes that "human nature" includes the need to be free and creative, I think that's a fair assumption to make, whereas hierarchical economic arrangements like so-called "free market" systems assumes many erroneous things about human nature. I don't see why Chomsky's vision of anarcho-syndicalist society. I believe you notice me more when I use the word 'fuck'. Buckley presumes anything about human nature beyond the fact that they don't want to be exploited slaves.
Emerson and Thoreau both read the Bhagavad Gita--Thoreau said that it made all other literature puny and mundane, not an exact quote but right along those lines. I encourage you all to read it as well!
Beautiful video. The quote should be "To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men—that is genius." So many of us today prescribe to our "own" truths instead of believing them to be universal. Great work!
Reading Emerson for the first time... An amazing thinker indeed. Emerson reminds me a tad of Thomas Paine. They are similar in their somewhat rebellious and independent ideals..
As steeped as America is in Christianity, there's something inherent in the American spirit that is individualistic, freedom-loving, freethinking, creative, and even somewhat pantheistic. Emerson, Thoreau, and their peers tapped into this, and I think it's a shame more Americans aren't familiar with their philosophy, which speaks so profoundly to the American sensibility.
Emerson. Thoreau. Whitman. The holy trinity of the American philosophy and spirituality. Emerson was the prophet, the way-maker, the teacher. Thoreau was the monk, the ascetic, the hermit-saint who put the ideas into practice. Whitman was the poet who gave them voice and rang the skies with it. Sad that so few Americans know of the spiritual heritage that waits right under their nos, though it waits at the back of their minds.

Howdy, I could not have said it any better myself, yep it is a great tragedy that the majorty of americans do not know of their heritage or that it even exists..

what giant this guy and im agnostic, he and thoreau were awesome, very good video, who sings? the song is absolutely beautiful. only an ask what is thyself, yourself?
I believe Emerson means that we should trust in our own divine soul, for that is what we truly are ... divine spirits of immense beauty, knowledge and light.
You don't need to give God alot of yourself in faith, in order for him to do great and incredible things through you, the faith of a mustard seed brings forth a abundant crop of harvest, sow that you may reap in due season and let God do the rest.
thank you. you have wonderful videos. i believe peace is up to each of us individually. find it within yourself, then work on spreading it to others.
