can the crowd hear all of this? i love it, short guys talk the most shit haha beautiful! "YOU'RE HERE FOR ONE...SPECIFIC REASON!" "what's that, earl?" bahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Actually, he came out to protect one of his players from getting tossed. An outsider might think Earl is being a bitch, but if Earl didn't go out to argue with the ump, Murray more than likely says something, and the ump will toss him.
According to Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle (formerly of the Washington Post), after the tirade, Weaver asked Mike Flanagan if he did balk. Flanny's response: "Yeah, I think I did." which lead Earl to reply, "well f*** you too!" RIP Flanagan :'-(
I used to love watching this guy, when he managed. His temper was so bad that even my mom (who's clueless about sports) knew Weaver when she saw him on TV.
@DerDude007 Weaver was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996.
First base umpire Bill Haller, who was wearing a microphone for a documentary on the daily life of an MLB umpire, called a balk on Oriole pitcher Mike Flanagan. Weaver charged out of the dugout and began screaming at Haller, who was already angry at Weaver for publicly questioning his honesty by suggesting he be prohibited from working Tigers games because his brother was the Tigers' catcher. Earl got the last laugh :)
Growing up in Balt back in the 60's and 70's was the greatest with Weaver around, he once got thrown out of a game for smoking in the dugout. Then got thrown out one night later for mocking the UMP by having a fake candy cigarette in his mouth.
@UnCircumsizedSmegma / Weaver beat Martin 3 games not 6, Martin was fired after the 69' season, and # 2 Martin did not drive drunk when he was killed, he was a passenger.
My friend pointed that out right away. Ha ha. Earl was once thrown out four times in a four game series.
In the fourth game he went to home plate and wanted to know if they were going to be that bad again. They said you won't know because you are gone again !
@GeorgeInCincinnati really?Ed Whitson whipped Billy Martins ass and almost tore off one of his limbs...Mickey McDermitt also whipped Billy Martins butt back in the fities.Billy Martin won one baseball "fight" after suckerpunching 5 foot 8 Dave Boswell (who won 20 games that year and never won 20 games the rest of his career). If Earl Weaver ever fought Billy Martin,he would bring a gun my friend, and not play games with a drunkin nutcase like Billy The Kid.
@GeorgeInCincinnati Billy Martin was lucky that he had George Steinbrenner to hire and fire him 5 separate times.Martin also burned his bridges in every other city with every other boss he ever worked for.
If you read Reggie Jacksons book he would tell you that Earl Weaver was 5 times the manager that Billy Martin was.Reggie Jackson also said that Earl Weaver yelled at him in front of his 1976 Orioles teammates on a bus once and told him he better conform to his tie policy.
I was the cameraman on this shoot for PM Magazine in 1980 I think? Our story was actually going to be on the umps. @eusabri Earl didn't give a crap. Heck, I think he got ejected before a game began once. He's gone far longer than this too. Apparently he's gone up to 10 minutes of arguing AFTER being ejected basically to piss off the umps.
@davestevenson31 Oh, I have seen him get tossed in person in the early 80s when they came to Comiskey to play the Sox, still to this day, I have no idea why. There was no close play or anything.
this was back when ppl werent pussies crying foul if an ump talks back...umps shouldnt initiate but i like when they stand up for themselves if they are attacked...i like everyones actions here
Man! Those were the days! I was 10 in 1978. A HUGE fan. My mother, brother and I used to go to atleast 15-20 games a year and always tried to sit in Wild Bill Hagee's section (can't recall right now which sec #). The best games were when the HATED Yankees came to town...especially those july and august, hot humid nights...beer flowing....fists flying!
Mark Belanger, Al Bumbry, Ken Singleton, Jim Palmer, Brooks and Frank (a little before my time to be honest), Lee May, Doug DeCinces.
The ump did put his finger on earls chest. So he slaped it away. If that is what he calls hitting me then I would have like to see earl knock him in the nose. The ump was over the line when he said what are you going in the hall of fame for fucking up world series.

@spudracer13 And a memo to morons like you who think they know the game. Get a clue about what you're talking about. The relationships between managers and umpires have been a thing of lore since baseball was first played. Don't know what kind of antiseptic world you live in but umpires are not robots and should not allow themselves to be treated like shit. Waller did a great job working Earl the way he did and whether you believe it or not, he deserved everything he got that night!
the only man to ever bring a video tape to the plate, instead of a lineup card to show up the umpires on how badly they had blown a call the night before. they do not make them like Earl anymore, he was tossed even before the game began
the only man to ever bring a video tape to the plate, instead of a lineup card to show up the umpires on how badly they had blown a call the night before. they do not make them like Earl anymore, he was tossed even before the game started.
Earl was the best going at it with the umps some of the others were Billy Martin/Don Zimmer/Lou Piniella/Sparky Anderson. What great charectors you just do not see this because of fines & stuff. I loved this kind of passion it needs to come back.
Now ya see this is the stuff that I remember. When it would happen no matter what
mang. It was for a good reason. Now god forbid the aclu what ever thier called would
take that to court. But really Weaver, Lasorda, even Piniella the game needs this kind of emotion. Gotta love that guy in Chicago, he adds color. Baseball doesn't do enough to promote itself, I'm not sure why that is but if you don't keep young
kids involed 10,15yrs.they won't get any ratings no ratings no money.
What's really funny besides Earl's hilarious voice and relentless attack as well as the ump saying "for fu**ing up the World Series"\?" is the fact that there is only one out in the top of the first inning when he gets thrown out. I believe that Ron Luciano, the famous umpire, once threw Earl out in the minor leagues before the game even started.
@crowtservo Loosing that series wasnt Earl Weavers fault fucknuts,if you watch the highlites from game 4 it was Weavers substitutions of pinch hitters Cowley and Lowenstein that crossed up Chuck Tanner and the Pirates and gave his team a 3-1 lead. The Orioles than became overly confident and lost the next three games.Eddie Murray went 1 for 26 in the last 5 games and dont forget Weaver had to play all 7 games by National league rules, which ment his top home run hitter from 1975-79 Lee May sat.
I just love that it's the top of the 1st.

I hate umpires... they think they are part of the show... the whole booooom thing is really unprofessional.

the only man to ever bring a video tape to the plate, instead of a lineup card to show up the umpires on how badly they had blown a call the night before. they do not make them like Earl anymore, he was tossed even before the game began

i was on a beer league softball team in which i hit a double and my brother was the umpire at second base and we reenacted this. EPIC

Earl was the best going at it with the umps some of the others were Billy Martin/Don Zimmer/Lou Piniella/Sparky Anderson. What great charectors you just do not see this because of fines & stuff. I loved this kind of passion it needs to come back.

Haha, gotta love the old days when men were men...
Slaytanica666 10 months ago

I believe that Ron Luciano, the famous umpire, once threw Earl out in the minor leagues before the game even started.

shizzy35 10 months ago
@shizzy35 Yep, up 3 games to 1 over the PIrates and they still lost that one the year before this happened.
crowtservo 10 months ago
@crowtservo Loosing that series wasnt Earl Weavers fault fucknuts,if you watch the highlites from game 4 it was Weavers substitutions of pinch hitters Cowley and Lowenstein that crossed up Chuck Tanner and the Pirates and gave his team a 3-1 lead. The Orioles than became overly confident and lost the next three games.Eddie Murray went 1 for 26 in the last 5 games and dont forget Weaver had to play all 7 games by National league rules, which ment his top home run hitter from 1975-79 Lee May sat.

@ShamWasBetter And you need to not take everything so freaking seriously.

In many years when Weaver has to knock on the pearly gates, what are the odds that he will get into an argument with
