I do feel this was spoiled by enthusiastic but annoying people clapping over the top of it. You're meant to clap at the end folks, not drown out the artists' performances!
@MustaffaCuppa Its' called a live performance, if the artists don't want the people clapping during the performance, they can simply ask them not to do so, like Bobby McFerrin does, like all the time.
@Crewmannumber6 ty I made a point to watch the credits after the show to find out that fact the Dillards were the Darlings,I even went to the store and bought their album, over 30 years ago,I must still have it,I save everything :)
Hey gang, come check out The Dillards official website and SAVE on our brand new "Homeland Security" t-shirt. In fact, all shirts are now just $15 through Christmas. Just Google "The Dillards official store"
Awesome! Funny as they attempt to go a 3rd round at the tune. These folks are about to be inducted in the Bluegrass Hall Of Fame this October (2009). They well deserve it !! God Bless 'em!
Tune was originally called feudin' banjos. Doug Dillard revamped the tune and called it Dueling Banjos. Eric Weisberg then changed it again for the film deliverance.
Has any group ever actually had two banjos dueling? It seems there's always one banjo and either a mandolin, like here, or a guitar. I do love this music. Love The Dillards. Thanks.
Don Reno and Arthur Smith recorded this with two Banjos Don on the 5 string and Arthur Smith on the tenor banjo this was the orginal recording back in the mis 50s.
Thanks so much 2ndfret. I would love to hear Don and Arthur's version and it would be even better to see them play this. It's apparent that the name "Dueling Banjos" mainly applies to the tune itself anymore rather than actually two banjos dueling. - Paula
When the "Deliverance" version was playing on the radio, some friends of mine went crazy over it. I told them the Dillards' version made that one seem boring by comparison. One guy didn't believe me and insisted on hearing it. He accused me of playing it at the wrong speed! He was amazed when he realized I wasn't.
The bass player is Mitch Jayne who of course was also the bass player in the Darlings on the Andy Griffith Show. He now resides in the Missouri Ozarks and has written several books.
They played Duelin Banjos on one episode of the Andy Griffith Show. Can't find it on YT :(

The very best and original Dillards line up. Unfortunately we will never again see them live. Best bluegrass band in their time.

Doug Dillard is amazing. I've seen these guys live several times, and hope to see them again, although Dougy is getting on in years.

They are all virtuosos, the mandolin player is excellent, but darn, nothing sparkles and rings like silver more than the five-string banjo.

If you can find the Dillards fist al;bum, "Back Porch Bluegrass" you're in the bonus round -- Doug was young, incredibly clean and hotter than fire.
Even here, he's still a real ass-dazzler.

bands have done it with two banjos i think most live shows rarely have two banjo players at a show to do it.
