I don't think it's the fact that the songs started to "blow" (your words); but just the fact that the Village People were seen as a disco thing and were outdated and for them to crossover and try to reimage themselves for a new decade didn't fit the music industry (with their "new image")...if that makes any sense (this, being my own personal opinion). Personally, I like this song, with some of their other 80's stuff (New York City, Sex Over The Phone).
