A bit cliched for their time, but one of the better cliched bands of the time, I must say.
They COULD write, they COULD play, and they were very good live.
Saw them support poison back when poison had kotzen on guitar, and I must say they almost upstaged the MOST cliched band of the whole glam/rock era, in just a dingy little club date in notts UK.
A shame that bands like these were lost in the horde of similar acts at the time, when the market was flooded with acts with big hair no talent
I don't think ANYONE knows their way around a Floyd Rose better than Derek did... Alive or dead. Amazing conviction on every note! This just gets better and better every time I watch it. What the hell has happened to rock music today? Where are all the MODERN bands with songwriting skills, virtuosity, and stylistic versatility? I don't doubt that they're probably out there, but they're sadly probably never gonna get signed in today's 1 dimensional cookie-cutter music industry. Sad, sad, sad...
@SuperGuitarNerd oh yeah there is....check out Dream Theater, theyre top of the musical food chain. When it comes to talent and musical skills theyre THE musical Jedi Grandmasters. Nightwish and Within Temptation are 2 more bands with amazing songs and sound. You're welcome............
@vetryder Whilst I'm personally not a huge fan of"Tolkien"metal,I must say I don't mind Pettruci's playing,he's great, but I saw them live once in Glasgow Scotland, & was actually kinda disappointed. The sound was terrible,& the fans were hostile(!) As for NW & BT, the production's a little too sterile & glossy for my tastes.I must say dude... You're kinda proving my point about the cookie-cutter music industry. It's kinda obvious NW & BT both came from the "Evanescence" cutter(!) Hot chicks tho!
@Traductus5972 yes and no. they stripped down the glammy look quite a bit on the second album Strength. Don't forget the glam look didn't hurt Poison, yet they had nothing on z'nuff when it came to songwriting. The quality of the songwriting on Strength was impossible to dismiss them as just a glam outfit. Unfortunately by the time that album had its run the seattle grunge scene had invaded.
Enough is so enough. I lost my way from Marc Bolan's site "Life Is Strange" to here and I now understand why I don't listen today's music. There's allways 13 or so in a dosen. The music business just does not support anything called personality, just easy selling good for nothing lookalikes of the past. I have heard this song so many times before, no surprices in there! SO SAD!
They are one of the super talented bands that got lost in the late 80's mix. Two others are Faster Pussycat and Hanoi Roxx. People just lumped them in as another glam band and didn't realize how great they are as musicians.
I would do anything just to look like Derek Frigo looked like back in the day.. and to play like him would be a dream.. truely one of the coolest guitar heroes to ever walked the earth! this band should have been massive...
alright i guess somebody with a clue can put this argue to rest... the Enuff Z'Nuff boys are playing and magnificently at that... the drummer is playing, obviously... and the dude in orange is playin rhythm
the guy in white is just standing there in his seinfeld shirt gayin everything up ;-)
If you were a musician you would see that the guitar player in white hardly changes positions, by that I mean hand. Hes holding an A chord the whole time. lmao!
If you were a musician you could see that the Letterman bass player is NOT playing bass. He is the one faking a rythym guitar, you idiot!! Have you ever been asked to go on Letterman. Guess your not such a good musician!!
First off- they are playing with the house band/so you got multiple bass and guitar players etc. Thus watching one player wont tell ya much.
Second-
Many of their songs were written with both rhythm and lead guitar lines. I think Vik Fox (their drummer) would play the rhythm in the studio-or else Derek would. Again- given multiple players ya gotta know who to watch for what parts.
Derek always loved to use a false harmonic by muting the note with the thumb of his pick-hand. Therefore you see a delay between him hitting the note and when you actually hear it. It has to do with how long it takes for the string vibration to reach the guitar pickups directly and through the guitar body.
Maybe that visual delay caused you to think they were faking it.
Try it tonight with your guitar and you will see what I mean.
it was paul schaeffer who picked THIS as the song for them to play and, keeping with his tradition of playing songs when someone comes out or going in and out of commercials that have vague references to the guest, paul's band played stevie wonder's superstitious into the commercial just after enuff z'nuff finished.
My favorite band OF ALL TIME! These guys just flat out ROCK! I've been a fan since Day 1, and I'll never stop.
I love Vai, Eddie, Paul Gilbert, etc., but (and I know I may be biased :)) but I ranked Derek right up there. The way he plays is my favorite style! Rock on all and enjoy!!!
Derek is the frickin best. I am from the s side of Chicago and ran into him often in clubs, etc. He is just great. I had the chance to talk to him for about an hour at Cro-Bar in Chicago one time about guitars, playing, etc... he was so cool. I grew up listening to Enuff Z Nuff. They are my all time favs. I recall hanging out with them at Stingrays on 103rd and Cicero. Frigo rules..
I had this on vhs but it got taped over by my mom! My friend and i stayed up all night to record it and then immediately called each other up to discuss it. I memorized all of donnie and derek's moves from this performance...man, feels like yesterday!!!
There used to be a video of Baby Loves You from Letterman's show on youtube before, but it got removed a while ago. I hope it comes back, because that was an awesome version of that song!
