  • bravo bravo

  • That was beautiful and I'm so glad this one doesn't die!!!!

  • @ShayLee0501 A very repetitive song though.

  • @raymondcrooke quite LOL

  • great video. one of my favorite songs!

  • @MrGogechka Thanks for watching. I do five different versions of this song. Obviously it's one of my favourites too.

  • Thanks for a contemporary version of a 400 year old song.

    Awesome.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • i really enjoy the performances where you sing to a number of raymonds.

another great video, another great song.

  • Thanks for catching up with this one, Paul. I put up several variations of this song, one of my favourite Child ballads.

  • hey mate as an ausie that lives in norway and hasnt been home in over a year its great to here all your aussie bush songs i learnt the botany bay song and plan to learn more to sing to my baby girl as she grows up cheers mate!

  • I'm glad to hear it, but I don't know how "Hangman, Hangman" fits into that!

  • this is a great version of the song, you might like Almeda Riddle's as well, it's not Australian though (?)

  • Just found this comment. Somehow I missed it six months ago! Yes, I am familiar with Almeda Riddle's excellent rendition of this song.

I'm not aware of any Australian versions. Thanks for commenting.

  • yeah this is awesome

  • Thanks again.

  • I'm so glad you did this with vocal only, because that's how it was originally intended to be done.

    Very good job.

  • Thank you. I do sing other versions with accompaniment, but I particularly like this a capella one.

  • Don't you dare delete this! It's a gem, love the passion!

  • nice job. thanks and best wishes.

  • you should delete this one pls. my 17 yr old daughter died from suicide by hanging. pls have some compassion.

  • I'm very sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, the fact that a lot of the folk songs I sing, particularly the Child ballads, deal with events of a tragic nature means that a large percentage of my songs may be unintentionally offensive to some people. If I delete everything that is potentially painful, there will not be much left.

  • (continued) All I can suggest is that you avoid songs with titles like this one. Other songs of mine you should avoid are "Prickle Holly Bush" and "Briery Bush," (variations on this one) other Child ballads such as "Geordie" and "Four Marys", "Anathea", "Butcher Boy", "Seven Curses", MacPherson's Lament", and "Saddam." I hope you will understand my point of view here, and do not see it as lack of compassion.

  • wa.....Raymond, really great, another style that you show me.^_^

  • I just stumbled upon this vid, and I've got to say the song's addictive. I like your cover

  • Odetta's version of this is my favourite of all, sounds a bit like hers or is this Leadbelly's version?

  • As it says in the introduction, this is based on Odetta's version, which is also my favourite. Lead Belly's is very different.

  • that was great,

  • LOL

  • I love those old dark songs. so who did Led Zeppelin steal this one from? it's hard to keep track sometimes;)

  • I wouldn't say they stole it. They took the traditional song (American version) and did their own unique version of it.

  • oh well. I think there's some old bluesmen who differ. I don't think they got credit nor royalties for many songs, and I think Zeppelin was infamous for doing that. maybe not this particular song however. I like your rendition!

  • another great job
