  • Everytime Brody slides inside, I always forget that Quint didn't know about the shark and goes out, I always found it to be like he has that look on him, that he knows this certain shark.

  • Somebody needs to upload a proper, unedited version of this scene--one of the greatest in movie history.

  • One of the Greatest moments in cinema. FACT.

  • Weak. Edited TV clip.

  • This movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. I wouldn't even go in my pool for about 3 months.

  • 1 of the alltime great movies.

  • @tigey75 look at the last seconds , there is coming also "were need a bigger boat right" :-)

  • A great white is the only fish in the ocean to lift its head out of the water to look around and see whats going on ! That scene is true.

  • Irish a bigger fighrt and a dignified

  • i fucking HATE edited for Tv

  • So if they went out there with a bigger boat Jaws would be about 3 guys just casually hunting a shark?

  • This is my favorite part of the whole series

  • my favorite one liner of all time

  • My reaction would have been the same as Brody's except one addition: "You're gonna need a bigger boat and, I'll be back in just a minute, gotta change the ol' undies real fast.

  • WHERE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOAT

  • John Williams music is just amazing during this whole sequence. The whoosh on the harp at 1:21 just amazes me every time. It completely captures the audiences stunned amazement of the shark and then the powerful forceful string section right after it which brings in the shark full force. And the choice of the overhead shot to amplify how big the shark is. It is all BRILLIANT.

  • why did this line get famous? any line from the movie could of got famous but anyone know why this one did?

  • Well made movie,great casting

  • Because that is the first time he had seen the shark up close,he didn't realize how big it was till now.

  • i want more shark movies!! mutated, robot i dont really care just something sharky and scary

  • haha u gotta love brody's reaction when the shark pops up X0

  • Ha HA They Cleaned the Launguage Up!

  • if a was him i would have got a bigger boat in the second movie

  • @tigey75 I just noticed that... lil' disappointing.

  • The title would say it all, if it wasn't for the fact that Brody actually says "YOU'RE gonna need a bigger boat" lol x

  • We're gonna need a bigger boat, one of the most legendary lines from the whole film.

  • @MeBenHalpin

It would be if thats what he said. Its actually "YOU'RE gonna need a bigger boat". One of the most misquoted film lines ever lol

  • @LisaKee73 Lol whatever you know what i meant.

  • @MeBenHalpin

    lol jj x

  • @movieking88 xD I know it was like watching a dubbed kung fu movie or something there for a second.

  • DAMN NATURE YOU SCARY!!!

  • "chump some of this slop"?

xD what the hell was that?

  • i not going to shot you frank... were gunna need a bigger boat..hahaha COP OUT

  • In Soviet Russia, a bigger boat needs you.

  • Edited AMC version. Funny. This is my favourite scene next to Quint's USS Indianapolis story. Just watched it last night, actually. Great film.

  • Notice Brody's cigarette isn't lit when he jumps back in fear but when he backs into the cabin and delivers the big line, the cigarette is smoking. Little continuity errors exist in every film. NOTHING can diminish this great film though....... except if some schmuck producer gets the bright idea to "reimagine" Jaws. we all know it's coming, don't we?

  • @tigey75 I know. Everyone messes that up. Oh well

  • its funny cuz he says it like 4 other times in the movie

  • back when real men smoked on camera

  • dislike tv version... censored....

  • @JohnS0045 You are so right

  • i totally agree , the score for jaws is superb, great movie and score to match, priceless!!!

  • It was only memorable the first time he said it

The other times it got old especially before the seen at night in the cabin

  • How many Jaws movie were there? I heard Hollywood was considering another one, is there any truth to that?

  • wtf in the movie i saw he says come on down and chump somea' this shit and in here he says come on down and slab somea' this slob wtf!!!

  • @StoutProductions I think that was because this was uploaded from an AMC broadcast and they had to edit out the original wording that you remember from the movie. Yes he does use the term you remember.

  • one of the best movies of a novel...

  • "Were gonna need a bigger boat : 1 of the best lince

  • yes, they can get that big, or bigger.

  • Great scene, Scheider, Dreyfuss and Shaw are so believable even if the shark wasn't! 3 Brilliant actors, no wonder they needed a bigger boat!!

  • @sammyshoeshine The shark was pretty believable considering this is from the 70's.

  • @jaxl2009 I agree. This shark looks a hell of alot better than the computer animated ones off deep blue sea! Of all shark movies, this one looks the most realistic.

  • let's get that right!! slow ahead i can go slow ahead come down and chomp some of this shit!!! that's the way it was said:)

  • @darthhvader Actually the word was "chum" not chomp. If you carefully watch the movie and listen, the explanation of "chumming" is actually described by one of the peripheral characters earlier in the film. That's what makes Speilberg such a great director. Little lines of dialog or little visual clues exist early in his movies that predict something later in the story. Another example is in Close Encounters. Someone whistles "She'll be Comin' round the Mountain". At the end.... SHE did!

  • NICE BOAT.

  • Best line in the movie's script.

  • Quit playin' with yourself Hooper!!

  • Robert Shaw is amazing in this film

  • the name of the video is wrong, he says...

'your gonna need a bigger boat' instead of 'were'

  • the best scene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm on a bigger boat!

  • Your gonna need a bigger boat.

  • thats not true at all

  • Best scene out of the whole movie, why didn't you keep it going?

  • at 0:20 he says slop when it is in the movie shit!

  • Smoking is bad.

  • Classic!

  • did u record this from the T.V ?

  • this was a classic I thought too and this was 80 minutes into the movie, why did Brody have that look on his face of seeing the shark?

  • the movie is a classic....with a great plot and story telling ...for its day the special effects weren't bad either... it definetly sold me....but what I was dissapointed in that it did not live up to the novel...the book was more gory in detail and the ending was altered...If they ever do a remake I would like to see the books version

instead of hollywoods version ...The novel was far better than the movie and if it was done correctly it could be another masterpiece

  • Holy shit I forgot about the shark poppin up like that lmao i havent seen this film in a while almost gave me a goddamn heart attack shiiiit

  • 0:34 Quint: thinking, yes I know.

  • Hooper: ''that's a twenty footer'' Quint: ''twenty five, three tonnes of him'' Quality

  • Are you kidding me,they edited out shit..Pathetic

  • he says, "your gonna need a bigger boat"

  • For all you knockers of the "special effects" in Jaws:

They may not have been great BY TODAY'S STANDARDS, but they scared the hell out of us all in the 1970's.

  • @DunlopDaytona it still scares the crap out of me

  • @DunlopDaytona Heck yeah! How many of us still get the 'willies' when we swim in the ocean? I've been a 'shark fan' for decades now & I KNOW they're not that dangerous but still...when I swim in salt water...it still gives me the creeps.

  • @DunlopDaytona youre right mate it scared the life out of me when i was young watching this with the family around the tv ! and actually i think the special effects were amazing for its time , if you watch any cheap shark movies now the effects are computerized rubbish !

  • All they needed was a grenade.... Jaws opened it's bigass mouth of his like 10 times throughout the movie.

  • @FloridaShawnie

LOL yep because we all just have hundreds of grenades lying around us at all times. But then it becomes the choice..which one which one Depleted uranium, Frag, WP, thermite, Flash Bang, smoke

  • u can kill it with closing eyes with the technelogy tof today

  • where,s the fun in that, Quint even has problems with Hoopers gear ;-)

  • Robert Shaw was class as Quint....great actor

  • "Thats a 20 footer"

    "..25."

  • Quinn 'Mr hooper..... I'm not talking about hooking no dogfish or dazing on a boat cruise, I'm talking about working for a living, I'm talking about sharking!!!!!'

  • @europeantennis2010

I don't need this working class hero crap!

  • yeah i remember on AMC they used to show this movie EVERY Sunday in the summer when i was 10

  • fucking masterpiece, too bad the shark looks more dated with the years, good thing of Spielberg not filming it too much.

  • @carig12 But the music still lingers, it's ABSOLUTE GENIUS!

  • You know , for me, that is part of the charm of this movie. I don't need for the shark to be ULTRA real. In this movie it just feels "like a shark" it gets the job done. That's all i need. The rest of it is left to the brilliant cast. I think if you are a hard core fan of this film you love Ol Bruce just as much as Rick Roy and Robert. (Opinions?) He is part of the lore and the history of JAWS. Its just slightly flawed like everyone is. That makes it perfect

  • @carig12, they used the music to anounce the arrival of sharkie more out of dispear that the shark was not working most of the time, was the best thing after all, even more susspence now, you hear the music, you know he,s comin but you don,t see him and when you finally do it scares you even more ,brilliant ,as brilliant as the simple music itself "tum tum tummm tumm tummm ";-) At first Speilberg said"that,s it ? haha .He and the producers thought the audienc would laugh during the whole movie.

  • Poor Hooper, he looked bored as hell. Shoulda brought his Sony PSP or an iPhone.

  • @tehkao, they never had a psp or iphone in the 70's

  • @tehkao didn't have them in the 70's or 80's or 90's

  • @tehkao right. in 1977, lol

  • @tehkao that's why he went in the cage, duh..

  • @tehkao - that was funny! Good one!

  • Yah, what about that bigger boat

  • They need a submarine my friend. USS Virginia should do it - torpedos away!

  • come down something somthing this slop? wtf

  • Great ! It stinks that the original words were edited - I know that, some people haven't heard the word " shit ", yet, but it' is still a great scene ! I've NEVER looked at the sea in the same way that I did before this movie came out.. Thanks, Spielberg, for thirty years + of ruining my ocean fun, from St. Thomas to Rhode Island !

  • Brody standing up with the cigarette and that look of shock, perfect. "That's a 20-footer....25, three tons of 'im" isn't bad either :)

  • The shark looks great in this scene. Aw! What a great cussin' movie!

  • What a film! Spielberg worshipped Moby Dick. Quint's the Ahab, Watch the battle and the FEr of the others c\ught up in it!

  • love the sound of the can rattling as quint walks out to investigate...

  • the words are dubbed at the begining

that is not what he originally said

he actually said why don't you come down and chum some of this shit

but the pc bregade have struck again

  • he actually says "you're"

  • Comment removed

  • @krizan1 The "shit" was "turned to "slop" in this "Jaws" clip because it was from an AMC channel airing of the film. It was dubbed all over for language because it was on TV.

  • @spide429

Look on youtube for Harry Enfield's 'Badfellas' sketch - a brilliant, humourous example of how TV channels ruin films by attempting to cut out any swearing in films.

  • From another site: And a special thought for Roy Scheider — who left us all on Sunday February 10, and is now somewhere in all-that-jazz luminous paradise — just because of his best scene in Jaws (why do we only remember the "You're gonna need a bigger boat" ad-lib line?).

Still, I don't know for sure, but this is what I heard many years ago. Who knows.

  • quint is fuckin awesome in the book....hes so blunt,so straight forward...and he hates hooper....

  • superb screen play! that is one HUGE shark! wouldnt want one of them ramming my boat!

  • This is one of my favorite movies. I just watched it again and I think Scheider says "You're gonna need a bigger boat". Not "we're". But still, one of the best ad-libs out there along with "Here's Johnny!" from The Shining. Superb movie, Jaws.

  • dont think that what adlib means :)

  • Well ad-lib is something you improvise during the take that's not in the script. And this is what happened with this scene.

  • no way. cite a source.

  • 0:19

  • "come on down and chum some of this shit"

  • Hello! Me love this video! TRUE!

    <:)

  • John Williams score just makes this. It is so incredibly powerful and moving. Film scores today are whimpy excuse. Nobody else knew how to give the audience a real.. MOMENT. So few films today have any real moments

  • @roquefortfiles Yea really, I LOVE the music as he backs up into the cabin, it really portrays the shock and rising terror in the scene.

  • Oh dont even get me started. Its my favorite film bar none. My all time favorite moment in the entire film. Just the sense of excitement, the build up, the HUNT finally starting is at 1:35. Seen it a 1000 times and still love it.

  • @roquefortfiles

    So true so true

  • Damn this movie still rocks...!!!

  • and always will :)

  • My dad is Chief Brody!! Well he's the double of him hahaha.

  • XDD I love the guys face! This movie really scared me and traumatised me of ANYTHING water for a year I think? O_O

  • Doesn't he say "You're gonna need a bigger boat"

  • I love AMC...they have the best older movies on here...also love this scene...total classic! Thanks "billsdude83" for posting this:)

  • When i saw this film on its initial release in 75 the moment when Hooper runs down the ladder 1:36 and the shark hunt basically begins was one of the most exciting moments i have ever experienced in a movie. To this day when i see that scene it still gives me a chill of excitement.

  • lol I like the way he just springs back

  • 0:19 he says "slop" instead of "Shit" its a disgrace!

  • That kind of shit makes you never want to go near an ocean again.

  • 0:23 the shark is just like "boo" I wish sharks didn't eat man (sometimes) caus I really want one as a pet, their kinda cute

  • That famous line "You're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat" from Police Chief Martin Brody, was ad-libed from Roy Scheider. Screenwriters Carl Gottlieb and Peter Benchley wished they would come up with a line like that, but Scheider beat them to it.

  • I said that 7 months ago, seems nobody believed me haha ;-)) it,s all on the specail dvd ;-)

  • I think Brody crapped his pants!

  • "We're gonna need a bigger boat". LOL classic line!

  • I AM THE LAW! wait wrong film lol

  • hooper .... hooper ......hooper

  • JAWS is an acronym, you know.

    Just A White Shark ... !

  • So your saying that JABS is an acronym too?

    Just A Bitchy Shark

All you hear is it roaring.

  • you have to love it when two masters set out to make a movie together (Steven Spielberg and John Williams)

  • hes like :c''i think i shit and piss my pants at the same time''

  • There's nothing worse than a censored version of a classic film.

  • shown on AMC the king of crap. AMC and nick at nite truly fuck up good movies and tv. Two of the lowest of all low channels. Pan and scans movies and nick at nite the major blunders to allow ur show to be shown on that crap network. CUT EM UP

  • Thats one thing about America i simply will never understand. Everyone seems fine with blood guts guns on tv. But utter a curse word and you are the devils spawn. I really hate it when middle America becomes EVERYONE'S moral compass.

  • right on dude, they will show a random person get shot in like a law and order show but somehow the word shit will get replaced with like the word can

  • Last time I checked nick at nite doesn't put on movies like this mostly the crappy shows and what not.

  • YOU'RE gonna need a bigger boat.

  • dude pops up real quick!

  • This came on HBO yesterday! I love this movie

  • Regardless of the 'censoring' of this clip.....

They still need a bigger boat.

Mr Shaw should really have been awarded some kind of award.

'Smile you son of a bitch.' !!! Boom!

  • This film is mega amazing made me laugh how they have changed what Brody says its been dubbed over when he says come down at chum some of this shit ! to something else 0.20

  • I thought that there was something strange about that :D

  • This scene is like a whole movie in itself

  • the first time the shark appears...can't forget that!

  • Actually the first time the shark appears is when the guy gets eaten on the 4th of July weekend and when chief Brody comes racing to his son Michael cuz the shark is coming his way.

  • You're right, and it's even a better shot because we see JAWS swimming just below the surface of the water...whereas this one (which is still a great moment) has the disadvantage of looking a bit mechanical. Still one of my favorite movies though. I don't care that the eyes of the shark don't roll back or the gums don't expand to reveal the seraded teeth. It's a near perfect horror-out-door- adventure film.

  • Oh yeah there's no denying that bro.

Brody:"Slow ahead,I can go slow ahead why don't you come down here and chum some of this shit!"

    *Shark appears,Brody jumps in shock*

Brody:"Your gonna need a bigger boat." Classic scene and still one of the most memorable lines in the movie :)

  • My girlfriend & I saw Dreyfuss at the DMV & I raised my voice & said You`re gonna need a bigger boat . We spoke to him briefly & he let us take a couple of photo`s . He was very gracious

  • Well lucky you,I've NEVER met any celebrities in my life.I just wish that just once I can meet one of my favorite celebrities in person, but I won't count on it

  • I live in San Diego, I see sport stars & actors every so often

  • Well all the more reason why I should be envious of you.

  • @LordGandor you know, in other movies of Dreyfuss they refering to Jaws , Like "what about Bob,"where Murray say to him on the phone, that he knows where his vacation is, on Martha,s vineyard(where jaws is filmed) or in an other movie where he himseld say, you gonna need a bigger boat .while he,s on a steak out . He was also great in Close encounters;-)

  • 0:24 LOL

  • its censored, slop!!!!! the line is supposed to be chum some of this shit!!!!

  • at 45 seconds

  • Sell some of this slop? That was replaced by "chum some of this shit".

  • thats a 20 footer!!!!!!!

ah aha ha ha ha ha ha ha

    best line!

  • "That's a 20 footer."

    "25...3 tons of 'im"

one of my favourite exchanges in the film.

  • oh man without a doubt my favorite all time

  • Best quote in the film

    RIP Roy Schieder

  • That's a 20 footer!

  • It says "you're gonna need a bigger boat" not "we're gonna need a bigger boat". One of the biggest misquotes ever, next to "Luke, I am your father".

  • What does vader really say?
