When you're up in the air, everyone looks the same. The pilot can only target as well as the guy on the ground can give him directions. If the guy on the ground isn't doing his job well, the pilot is going to target the guys he gives him... so in turn, he sucks as well.

So they had to rely on the USAF and the awesome US PEDRO casualty evacuation teams, those guys are the bravest in the air. Another RAF chinook hit a tree on a regularly used HLS at my Patrol Base, if the casualty had still been alive at the time it would have been their fault he wouldnt have made it to Bastion.

This is 1 Royal Anglian calling in Close Air Support, in Kajaki area of Helmand 2007, and it was a close contact. This wasn't the only incident we had out there, I had an A10 do the same thing in a different area. It does happen a lot but what people fail to realise is the amount of times the yanks get it right is far, far greater than the times they don't. The amount of times the A10's fart of death, and other US jets have potentially saved me is more than I can remember.
Anything within 600m is regarded as danger close,but that second pass of the A-10 must have been within 50-75m. They must have been bumped big style to call it in that close!

@CeejBlue True story - we bring them in close and they're there for us when they don't have to be. It's not just up the pilot, British JTACs have to get it right, signallers have to get it right, parent air callsigns need to get it right. Not easy.
@CeejBlue it is also to do with the levels of authority regarding engagement. RAF when flying CAP have to request authorisation to engage (unless fired upon). The USAF do not. It's a policy discrepancy which is leading to multiple blue on blue - look at the Matty Hull video, a classic example if there was one needed.

When you're up in the air, everyone looks the same. The pilot can only target as well as the guy on the ground can give him directions. If the guy on the ground isn't doing his job well, the pilot is going to target the guys he gives him... so in turn, he sucks as well.

@NathanAndrewLonsdale It's really not though is it? The RAF refused to come and resupply one of our platoons in Nad Ali as it was "too dangerous". So they had to rely on the USAF and the awesome US PEDRO casualty evacuation teams, those guys are the bravest in the air. Another RAF chinook hit a tree on a regularly used HLS at my Patrol Base, if the casualty had still been alive at the time it would have been their fault he wouldnt have made it to Bastion.

with the increase of allied troops in an area, as well as an increased number of combat missions, there's gonna be an increased # of friendly casualties. With todays technology our boys have a much better chance to see through the fog of war than a roman soldier of antiquity. However, until we have Terminators hunting down the bad guys for us, we humans are bound to make errors. Just know that we're allies no matter how much sh*t we hurl across the lake at each other..we're in this together

This is 1 Royal Anglian calling in Close Air Support, in Kajaki area of Helmand 2007, and it was a close contact. This wasn't the only incident we had out there, I had an A10 do the same thing in a different area. It does happen a lot but what people fail to realise is the amount of times the yanks get it right is far, far greater than the times they don't. The amount of times the A10's fart of death, and other US jets have potentially saved me is more than I can remember.

To respond to a few nuggets shouting off out there....The reason there have been more blue on blue with US planes is because they have a lot more out there and fly a hell of a lot more combat missions. All I care about is if I call in CAS I want them they asap and do their stuff to get us home safe. As for you lot slagging the yanks, they're good soldiers and great allies. Have served in the British Army for 19 yrs, so I know what I'm talking about. Come home safe lads!

@CeejBlue it is also to do with the levels of authority regarding engagement. RAF when flying CAP have to request authorisation to engage (unless fired upon). The USAF do not. It's a policy discrepancy which is leading to multiple blue on blue - look at the Matty Hull video, a classic example if there was one needed.
