in 1943, its a japanese. in 1949, its a white guy. thats all the information i will give because the 1949, i dont want to ruin the ending if anyone decides to watch it.
i meant to to put my previous comment for quiromayo. the 2 i mentioned are the bad guy. there is no joker, no mr. freeze, etc. the only ones are batman/bruce wayne, robin/dick. and i know in the 1949 version, theres a vicky vale.
I had no idea there was a 40's series. This is awesome! You've got a ton of kick ass videos. I also see that you're a WATCHMEN fan and a Spirit fan. I love them both so much. Great work!
@FantomBloth I have some of this stuff! You can see alot of them here! This is good stuff! LMAO! Imagine this dialogue w/ this for real!...We would be living in some strannnge times now Thanks!
@ClaireVF94 ...Okay I'm 44. I remember they this, ( I have it now), Flash Gordon, Capt. Marvel, Green Hornet, There's 2 more serials of superman b-4 George Reeves, all shown @ Comic CON(ventions) in the '70's n' 80's funny as hell but good for a kid 6-8 . u learn alot....
Man this is awesome! I love the 1940's Batman, I love the old style movies, and I love the darkness of the modern trailer's sounds. They all blend together perfectly to give you an eerie yet serious tone to the whole picture! This is The Bat-Man of 1940s Gotham.
Excellent -- better than the actual trailer. This version incorporates authentic newsreel footage of the Newark, NJ vigilante known as "the bat," who wore a cape and cowl to conceal his identity from the police as he took the law into his own hands. This real-life Batman died in 1949 after falling in an attempt to swing on a cable from a radio mast into the window of an adjacent building.
I enjoyed watching this. The new batty movie to me looks pretty cool, and also completly dispicable. I would never pay to see that movie. But this was a neat clip, showing the complete absurdity of taking this character THAT seriously. It's mostly a story for kids, like Robin Hood for petes sake.
Actually when Batman first appeared he used guns and he actually killed people. He was a pulp character heavily influenced by The Shadow. However in 1942 the editors forced writters/artists to tone down the violence because of complaints from parents.
Batman was created in 1939. I think he used a gun in one or two pannels. I'm sure it was much before 1942 that Robin was introduced. Superheroes derive from Pulps, but their target audience is younger. To say that this and other comic book characters are not intended for a young audience is untrue. You can read my criticisms of the new film under: NEW The Dark Knight Trailer 6 HD.
You also forget The Shadow was a major influence to Batman. The Shadow (although yes the magazines were geared towards kids) was incredibly violent. Not over the top gore but still violent enough for kids to be reading. Robin was introduced in 1942. Batman has used guns once in a while throughout his career. I can even post some pannels if you whish. Remember the comic code was soon to kill off all the horror magazines so the fact people complained about the violence in Batman isn't to far off.
OK I may have gotten the year wrong. Again though Batman has appeared with guns throughout the comics. Just rarely.
Also The Shadow comics were really pulp as well, later on in the comic series it became really adult and added sex, drugs, and violence.
I think what really set the whole targeting into play was serial killer Ed Gein used to constantly read EC horror comics and acted out acts. However, I still think it was bogus they had to ruin it for everone else.
I did a google search for "ed gein ec comics" and found nothing, so you'd have to give me a quote or a "link" to what you are talking about. Links aren't enabled on this site, so it'd have to be a keword to search,I guess, before I can believe that. I just know that Psycho and Texas C.M.are based on him.
It is a little silly to talk about the violence in these 50's horror comics compared to todays trash. If Gein was an adult he should be free to read whatever he chooses.
On his biography they mentiond him reading a lot of horror comics and books. I'm not possitive it was EC exactly but it was deffinatly similar style ones.
Tell me about it. I never understood why no one thinks of re starting a new horror comic series for today. Then again, the horror of today is pretty much all gore based and after a while i'd get bored reading them. Whatever happend to just writting a good horror story without relying on violence.
You know, The Shadow wasn't the only major influence to Batman, Batman was also influenced by Sherlock holmes, Doc Savage, The Black Bat, The Phantom Detective, The Spider, and (even) Superman(!).
Wow That was great. This Is Just an opinion..But, You Know-If you ever wanna try to make a better, more up-to-date, and even a little funnier version-you should try do a similar trailer mixed with clips from the second serial and the 1966 movie with clips of Cesar romero as the joker and the 60's batmobile in black and white.
REALLY awesome1

Lewis Wilson is my favorite Batman, he looks strong, and had a light Cary Grant touch.
He also showed some detecting and disguise skills like in the comic books.
Now days it seems to only detecting work in super hero shows is resorting to a computer, and there's a whole lot not available online.

Wikipedia: The first incarnation of the character—Dick Grayson—debuted in Detective Comics #38 (April 1940).
Robin was introduced because the comics were grim and crude, and this character lightened the mood and appealed to more younger readers.
The only comic to really pull off pulp fiction in comics was "The Spirit" by Will Eisner.
Targeting and cancelling the EC comics was wrong, because those comics had more potential, but some complaints of violence were accurate.
