I just gave examples of issues that Lincoln disagrees with that the Democratic party typically holds dear. Looking at issues in a strictly "liberal" versus "conservative" framework doesn't serve any purpose: there are things that both agree with.

Let's take a look at Canada, the country north of the US, that was run by people that were more politically conservative than the US (this was true until about the 1900s): no slavery, no segregation. You can look at other countries as well. Your argument, even if I concede what you say about US conservatives is true (which I do not) has been shown empirically to be false.

people feel that way because it was a fictitious portrayal as an invitation to an interracial sexual relationship in a state not regarded for racial harmony. it's not that the ad itself was racist, it's that the combination of factors were made to play off some people's feelings. it really was a dirty ad and it worked.

Yes. The difference is that Canadians don't really care as much about trivial subjects.
When there are debates amongst federal candidates, the issues tend to be very relevant.
Notice when America votes all of the sudden important issues seem to vanish? All of the sudden the same old bizarre issues come front and center, only to be forgotten about until the next election. (eg. abortion, religion, gay rights etc.)
Canada isn't perfect, but I'm glad I'm here.
