First of all, Miss Nilsson is the one who receives the hommage. Secondly : she is a Swde, not Norwegian ! Please a bit of respect for a great diva ! Corelli fans should be more respectful It is enough that they put " Turandot " with Franco Corelli and Birgit Nilsson that now you make things in reverse and put HOMMAGE TO CORELLI. It is HER day. Un poco más de respeto. El Homenaje no es para Corelli, es un programa para Nilsson E un omaggio a Nilsson non a Corelli.- Rispetto prego !
How fascinating to see two of the greatest singers known to opera coming down from their lofty perch to act like normal human beings. Franco Corelli speaks volumes with his magnificent eyes even when he is silent! Nilsson comes over as the Norwegian cow-milking Diva that she really was! How wonderful that they were competitors but remained friends! Thank you, Elba, for sharings these mesmerizing moments with these two colossol artists and for your wonderful work!
I suspect because he had to sing-and was nervous, and probably trying to keep the voice placed-it was not his usual pleasant speaking voice(unlike most tenors) which I heard up close numerous times.
Try his fascinating Youtube interview -Corelli talks about Lauri-Volpi-for a more accurate sense of his speaking voice.
Corelli's speaking voice is somewhat dry and cold, unlike his warm, passionate, succulent voice of his singing. In addition, he sounds different here because he speaks English and not his native Italian. The voice always changes when a person speaks a foreign language.
He spoke in the mask to protect his singing voice.

I wonder what year this was. My guess would be late 70's early 80's.

Good points...also he didn't always speak like this, even when speaking English, as I have noted in other interviews.
