there is a theater group in my town that is doing this. im in the dream ballet scene..im a dancer. haha. but one of my best friends is playing Ado Annie.
Sondheim is a death wish for an audition piece, not because of the difficulty of the song, but his rhythms are not very melodic. you need a piece that is easier to follow. Also a lot of Sondheim's songs tend to have dialogue within the song and that can miss with the musicality of the song if pieces are excises out carelessly, or some even with care. Just and opinion
If you're auditioning for Oklahoma!, then just do a classic Lerner and Lowe or Rogers and Hammerstein piece. Pick one from one of their lesser known musicals, though, like Flower Drum Song or something so it's a bit original.
give the girl a microphone or beat down the band. i know how hard it is to try to overpower the song and sing loudly.
