Prior to WW2 the wealthiest americans paid almost all taxes and most working americans paid almost no taxes, to finance the war taxes were raised on all americans but on 80% of working americans taxes were still low. From 1960 on there has been a shift of the tax burden from top income onto 80% of lower income americans, the result has been a dramatic increase in income for top income while all other income have seen almost NO real increase in comparison. This is not sustainable.

And what is most important about those tax cuts is that it did not include top income tax cuts so the gov did not have to raise excise taxes or other taxes that counsel out income tax cuts like those that G.W. Bush gave.

Winning the November 2, midterm election is just the first step in what will be, and should be, a long and arduous journey. The Marxists among us have been changing America from a Constitutional Republic to a Socialist Democracy for over 100 years. @thisisabbyflynn I admire the interest that so many Canadians have in Amercia as well as the common sense intelligence of Canadians, I have several email friendship with Canadians that have expressed that same sentiment, and I thank you for doing so on here, I have learned a lot from my Canadian virtual friends and have realized how interconnected we are, I sincerely hope that we are able to continue to progress with President Obama's policies and do not revert back to old policies.

The main problem is capitalism as of now but just as people say about socialism capitalism may not be all bad. We can maybe work around it and include the good things into what i and most people call Socialism not a weathfare state.

@WorldDebater They have no choice really, the Senate does not have the super majority it needs and the GOP would allow 15.1 million people to go hungry if they do get their top income tax cuts and that is just the truth of the matter. Obama and the dems said over and over again that they would have to renew top income if they lost the majority and Voters made that choice when they put GOP in the majority.

constitutional law at the university level. I think you can safely assume that President Obama is a pretty intelligent guy, with or without seeing his transcripts.

Carter just started in a period of severe stagnation due to the OIL Embargo and that would have been a tough go for any president. Beside GDP under Carter was superior.
