@TheMattybob it takes place on a ship and on the "Big Shell" (which is used to clean up a oil spill )off the coast of Manhattan, New York. If you meant where in the MGS timeline, about 4 or 5 years after MGS 1.

Also, if you've played all of them besides 2, your missing out on a amazing game, and you must have no idea what is going on with the storyline :)

Good question... the answer is 'cause Hideo Kojima isn't putting 100% input into the game... instead his the direcor for MGS PeaceWalker which is coming out on the PSP this summer (perhaps May)... my advice to you would be to divert your attention to that game..

Sorry I didn't mean for you percieve it as me knocking you for not knowing about Peacewalker, the story of Peacwalker continues on from Portable Ops (PSP), Naked Snake (The successor to The Boss) was given the data of "Army's Heaven" amassed by Gene (the legendary antagonist in Portable Ops) he hates himself for killing The Boss in MGS3. Meanwhile, Ocelot wants Snake to join him so that they can fulfil the will of the Boss and thus Snake must unravel who is behind the scenes before its too late.

Looking back I have to say they got it completely wrong because the REASON why MGS 2 became the single most anticipated game of all-time was 'cause of SOLID SNAKE... NOT Raiden... so Hideo Kojima should've given the fans MORE Snake and pushed everything else BACK. I don't think the series will ever get as it was when MGS2 came out. I got to experience the geniune hype/anticipation month-by-month via games magazines etc. I was only 15 at the time in 2000 and sorta privileged to have witnessed it.

Don't worry about it, this is my humble opinion but MGS1, 2, and 3 are the golden age of Metal Gear games. You didn't miss much. I think it's the perfect trilogy. It's actually very complete if you think about it. 4 is very unnecessary.

I got a better deal though, $299 for PS3, Killzone 2, Infamous, and a $10 gift card.

Raiden was a bad character, but IMO MGS2 was an underrated game. People refused to look beyond Raiden and see the games story a lot of the time. I haven't played 4 yet, but 2 has my favourite story out of the first 3. 3 has to be my favourite all-around though.

I agree, Raiden's dialogue and voice acting was quite embarrassing at times. But a lot of people don't look past that and see the mind-blowing story within. It was the first postmodern game that had the guts to deliver a plot reserved for thriller movies in a video game. Government conspiracies, terrorism, computer A.I... no other game really went into the territory that MGS2's went.

Raiden is pretty cool in MGS 4, but in MGS 2 you have Snake at the beginning, and then you have Raiden for the 80% left. What a pain!
