I'm sorry but any inconsistency in the sound of the instrument defeats the whole point of this song. Terrific playing, I just hate the effect on the keyboard.
I appreciate the dissection of stylistic approach that this video offers. I've been working on an aarrangement of Poinciana and this helped quite a bit as far as the reasons behind harmonic choices. The pianist isn't trying to succeed Ahmad Jamal. This is a learning tool and a damn good one if you ask me...which you did...
Do you? Then you'll be very happy going to your local furniture warehouse where they play this sort of crap sound while you laze around and try out their new sofas...Of course if you really want to hear some decent jazz you can hear Mr Jamal play it just as it should be played on this site somewhere...you can take a trip from the rediculous to the sublime in one click..
one suggestion, when you pur those describtion remarks of the tune, you should leave them up on there a few seconds more, so when you read it , we have a second to think about about it and hear it at the same time. this way we will understand better.
And I thought Camilo did a great job with this piece! This is lightyears ahead of any version of this piece I have heard. Please keep these comming! Not only are they worth their weigth in gold purely musically but I have learned so much from your videos!
this is just awesome!!

Great version. Best I've ever heard; including Ahmad's.
BUT, why the fake piano. Please do a version on the Yamaha 250 piano sound.

Very well played, but I didn't like the sound of the keyboard: too electric

At the top of the second chorus of blowing, isn't that a quote of the tune "I'm Glad There is You?"
I really like the feel of this one Doug.

You are right - I hadn't realized why this phrase seemed so familiar - both Jarret and Camilo do it too I think I remember.
I really enjoyed your version - it is great to hear someone else's approach to the same song.

Thanks Doug, the "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" quote at the tail end was a nod to your version.
