She is EXCEPTIONAL..Her "Pirouette turns" are flawless (I used to always have trouble with them in my Jazz classes because we don't focus on this too much. Unfortunately I was never able to learn Ballet as a little girl and now I am 31 and too old:( If I have a daughter, I will definitely want her to study ballet. It is one of the most beautiful dances and endows one with absolute poise and grace. Bravo to the lead dancer in this video on a performance extraordinaire:)
@MssAvatar2011 this is well-said, i've learnt ballet since i was 6 and have continued it for 10 years. i'm very grateful that my mum brought me to the ballet classes when i was small :) good luck
Yes, not being able to learn Ballet is one of my great regrets...and one has to do it at a very early age. I will be sure to put my daughter in Ballet class (unless she absolutely hates dance..lol)
Her fouettes are sloppy, you can't even really say her technique is good. If you look at the center of the chest behind her she is moving left, the right! There is such an elegance to doing fouettes that is completely overlooked here. Still, pretty good though!
at least she can do the fouettes, so many dancers have this part made easier (relative since it's all challenging) for them. She has been the most amazing performer in this ballet that I have seen. Her arms are incredible.
@miriamlunita2004 Gillian Murphy can't compare to this wonderful artist. Back then Nina was the only true prima of ABT. I wish someone would show her adagio and not only the coda.
Beautiful dancer and lovely fouettes but she doesn't connect her foot to her passe every time she turns and towards the end, she kinda flops the last 2 fouettes. But it was a beautiful coda (:
@EssaTeresa The 32 fouettes were put in Swan Lake over 100 years ago so she is only doing what is/was expected BUT so rare to see just 32 singles these days and a refreshing change! So fast tho' which might be why she travels downstage so much instead of staying in one place!
i think with a lot of training and spinning, and training and spinning your life strat to spin, constantly, not that you notice, cause you are so used to it by the that time, so you dont ever get dizzy :D
idk.... im tired... and i like turtles.... and i dont know how i ended up watchin people spin... around and around...
@skerple94 In the this scene the Black Swan is celebrating that she was able to trick the Prince into falling for her so in a sense its a victory dance haha and the "spinnies" are called Fouettes in ballet.
@dancerboi321 No - the fouettes are part of the continuing plan to dazzle and fool the Prince into believing she IS his beloved AND were inserted into the original choreography over 100 yrs ago for the then prima to show off her ability to be the first to perform them en pointe. Nice to see 32 very fast, but boy, does she travel instead of staying sur place.
@ilovepointeshoesxx So true! Whenever I see the Black Swan Coda I think the dancer has to start early because the music doesn't last long enough to perform all that fouettes :) lol
I think she can do the fouettes that fast. The music is really that fast, so she probably can do them that fast. Fouettes are incredibley FUN!!!

Beautiful, but why? Why in Swan Lake is there always all those spinnies? Is it because the black swan is happy about something?
