Sounds like you were near the horn. I worked at HP Pavilion for 6 years. The actual goal horn is in the catwalk above section 207. If I remember correctly, that horn used to be a navy fog horn before the Sharks put it in the tank. When you sit anywhere between 207 and 209 that horn really shakes you to the core!
I have attended a lot of events there, mainly Sharks games, so I do know my way around this particular arena. I usually sit in Section 118, 120, or around that vicinity (near the zamboni tunnel on the other end of the ice), so it's nice to get a perspective of the view of the game from that zone.
