Viagara and BC aside, the real issue is that there are people that actually want to vote for a man that has obvious trouble answering important questions... hell even saying something smartly diplomatic to get out of the question would have been better than a long drawn out "I'm screwed" pause.
but it's really sad that women must continue to suffer physically and financially at the hands of dirty old gray haired PoS like john mccain the POW Collaborator.
The interviewer has trickily worded her question to fool uninformed viewers into assuming that health insurance companies typically cover Viagra, but not birth control.
My health insurance company covers birth control devices, but not Viagra.
My health insurance company also covers abortion-on-demand. Planned Parenthood's decision to criticize health insurance companies (and the money they pay to Planned Parenthood) is a poor idea.
It is time to unseal McCain's medical records and reveal whether he gets Viagra and who pays for it. This would mean he had a conflict of interest on the vote? I think that is why he is so embarrassed by this question; he is worried about the follow up.
In my experience this is a feminist myth. When I was employed, my group policy did not cover Viagra. Now my Medicare part D supplement does not cover Viagra.
The logic behind it is obvious. Viagra is a medication because it's meant to treat Erectile Dysfunction, a medical affliction.
Birth Control for women is not a medication because it only prevents pregnancy, which is not a disease.
I hate technicalities, but it just needs to be pointed out. It's a dumb policy, because everyone knows that Viagra is only recreational, but birth control is absolutely vital.
No its not. How do you think women in the older days got through. They weren't complaining about birth control pills at all because there weren't any, just as there wasn't any Viagra. This just SEEMS to be a different time when people think they need a fix to get by.
uh hello? you obviously dont know that much about the BC pill. Its not just prescribed to sexually active women or for the act of sex at all. it has other uses. but i guess silly men dont like talking about womens icky periods: read no further if you're that squeemish-
the pill helps regulate a womans period such as lessening cramps and heavy bleeding, it also reduces it to only a few days rather than a week-long ordeal, it also puts it on a regular schedule. so for women who have heavy bleeding, horrible cramps, susceptible to mood swings or irregular periods, the birth control pill is a HUGE help. I would call that a treatment for a medical affliction
that would be great but different women need different doses and different brands. different products for different people, and you need a doctor to look at you and give you a prescription for that
How to be a Good Democrat: Step 1: Open mouth. Step 2: Say something dumb. Step 3: Back track. Step 4: Deny you said it. Step 5: Blame the Republicans. Step 6: Go to Step 1.
McCain a fucking idiot but your even dumber for voting for him. Ps. I am neither in favour of democrats or republicans, it's just there is no chopice in the upcoming US election anyone that votes McCain must have been previously labotomized.
Do you feel more important and believe that cussing will earn you respect to your peers or do you make others believe that you more mature than you really are?
I don't expect to earn respect from swearing nor do I expect people to start pushing blue laws again. Believe it or not saying the f word isn't as bad as threatening war on China, Russia, and Iran. If you think it is you need to seek professional help.
and to think, i was seriously going to vote for this guy. I'm not fond of both candidates, but there is no way in hell im going to put up with a old senile geezer for president.
If this question stumps McCain and he has to look at his voting record to find out where he stands then this guy is a fraud, a fool and an intellectual pinhead.
What a buffoon, I have never seen anyone get so blindsided by such a simple question.
There are at least ten reasons in this short spot why McC@nt is not qualified to run an automobile, much less a country. That was hilarious! Know enough about the issue??!! Viagra makes old geezers get boners. Birth control is opposed by religious idiots. Their time is over, McC@nt loses, he's a dolt, and I can't even bring myself to feel sorry for the old fossil. What a worm.
"If a woman wants to have sex, but is afraid of the risks of a child, how about not doing it in the first place?"
You say that now but wait until you want some nookie.
Seriously though, if insurance is going to cover only one of these it should be birth control. If some guy can't sprout wood, sucks to be him but it affects no one.
If women start squirting out babies, everyone in the company will be paying high premiums to cover these kids.
FenixSync - what are you talking about? i'm not against sex, i'm just saying practice safe and smart sex. birth control pills aren't even 100% effective. Is it really worth the risk?
Cornplanter - I agree with you all the way up to old guys sprouting wood, but I highly doubt the the "companies" you speak of will cover jack shit for anyone's child but their own.
"but I highly doubt the the "companies" you speak of will cover jack shit for anyone's child but their own."
Of course not. Why would an employer cover people who are not family members of their employees?
My point is, the more kids an employee has, the more cost to the company's insurance plan. And personally, I know I whenever my employer has to pay more for insurance, we employees have to pay more.
My bad, I read your comment different than you meant. I completely agree with what your saying. I personally just don't like women who actually need birth "control". But I suppose since there are people out there who seriously can't control themselves...
Wow, so women who are in monogamous relationships (or MARRIED) who want to take responsability and live within their means sexually/financially are not your cup of tea. Sad.
Well I didn't take that into consideration, sorry. Me being a young adult, I only paid attention to people in my age group. But I suppose I'll try not to be so biased on the next subject. I'm glad there are old people like you to point that out to us!
He alienates women if he opposes the coverage and he loses the love of Jeebus from his Evangelical base if he states birth control is anything but the devil's work.
(1) Under the Bush admin, schools that teach an abstinence only (which is VERY unfactual, if you ever peruse a textbook) education. This type of education has been proven to be ineffective, uninformative, and mostly detrimental.
(2) In a male dominated arena, are the ones making decisions regarding women's sexual and reproductive health. Even McCain's leading female surrogate spokesperson, Carly Fiorina (pro-life), believes that women should have the option and choice to contraceptive methods.
hhaah ur rly right on that obama is the smartest president we'll have and he aint no terrorist like people say bush was the one who made people terrorist by sending people to fight others in their own country its only dumb bush' fault of why we dont have a good say on our country which is why we need obama not no mccain!
I guess it's a woman's duty to take his man's penis whenever he wants and deliver babies she might not even have the resources to take care of.
Birth control is life saving for many females and health insurance companies covering viagra and NOT birth control is bullshit. And McCain's ignorance on the issue, and on MANY womens' issues for that matter, is appalling.
kvjhedfbv, i believe this is concering the independence of women and equal opportunity..women should have every right to insurance coverage of birth control if viagra is covered as well..especially if it is not being used for a heart condition and actually being used to get it up.
Why would men need to take birth control? All in all, it's a women's responsibility to take care of her own body and birth control is one way she can. You say women need to be more independent and take control of their bodies, birth control is there for that reason! ED is a serious problem and it's good that insurance companies cover it, but prevention is important too. MAYBE if BC was covered, abortion wouldn't be as big a problem as it is right now.
What, women shouldn't have sex unless they want to have a child? Men are free to have sex whenever they want to but when women have sex, they get pregnant. Birth control DOES give control over a woman's own body because it allows her to have sex almost as freely as a man. What's wrong with that??
They don't cry about it because I'm pretty sure that most men aren't concerned about birth control unless they're married...and even then I don't think it's a major issue for the man.
You're right, no one is stopping them. BUT HOW CAN THEY? Some women can't afford pricey birth control pills and that's where insurance is supposed to come in, but I guess not. Please explain the "sex education" that women need, because I don't think that's the issue here.
Oh wait, but Viagra's covered. What makes a man so special?
If women make the decision to have sex and THEY DECIDE they don't want a baby, birth control should be covered for them. Many women decide to stay abstinent until marriage but you can't lump all women into that category. There are actually women out there that have a very active sex life just like men.
The reason for health insurance is to cover basic medical care, and provide insurance to the costs of that care. Birth Control is a basic medical care, as well as a medication for many people. Chillax - you seem very bitter.
Viagra is not used to treat hypertension it is only used to treat a side effect of hypertension. By the way erectile dysfunction isn't always caused by hypertension nor does hypertension always lead to erectile dysfunction.
MORON (i couldnt resist-people like you are trying to make it more difficult for me to live my life)
Birth Control pills ARE NOT JUST FOR THE SEXUALLY ACTIVE. They help control irregular menustration patterns, cramps, mood-swings, heavy bleeding, as well as the lenght of a womans period and many women get this prescription for those reasons. MENUSTRATION IS A CIRCULATORY ISSUE, SO DAMMIT LET US HAVE EQUALITY!!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
menustration patterns, cramps, mood-swings, heavy bleeding, as well as the lenght of a womans period .
You just described having a uterus. If you do not like your uterus, get it yanked out. It's not McCain's fault you love your uterus so much you can not get rid of it.
ah so if you thinks that its trivial, then why shouldnt men just deal with their limp wrinkly penises...
and i'm talking about taking care of a womans reproductive organs and their effects on the body, there are many abnormal cases that NEED to be taken care of, whether the majority of men understand or not
back when i was in school i made a sarcastic remark about how we should breed all same-sex people, because everyone was whining about equality, and all the students were shocked, fucking retards
I was unaware man haters had special vision. Stop being a dick just to be a dick. Health insurance DOES cover Viagra for men, which affords them the ability to have sex for fun, which is one function of birth control. So, it's the same.
People complain about abortions, but if birth control was more available less women would need them. Believe it or not, reproductive rights are important. Why is it that so many want to call women who want control over their lives and their bodies "man-haters?" They don't want much and they certainly don't want to threaten anyone. They just want the freedom they're entitled to as human beings. Get used to it, women are people and want to be treated accordingly, and that shouldn't be threatening.
Sildenafil ("Viagra") is used to treat diseases (doesn't anyone watch "House"?). As mentioned, it can be used to treat PAH, and has off-label uses as a vasodilator.

On topic:
If the implication of the McCain surrogate was that the insurance industry is sexist, then the issue is trivial in a campaign that will affect the future of several hundred thousand American troops in Iraq/Afghanistan. Still, as an advocate of birth control, I do support the surrogate's call for its greater availability.
Birth control is a life-saving drug. Many females on prescription anti-acne medication must take birth control concurrently because those drugs cause horrific fetal deformations and life-threatening pregnancy complications. Of course, that's hardly its most common use, just as Viagra's most common use isn't hypertension. It definitely a double-standard for birth control not to be covered by insurance when Viagra is, and believing that doesn't make one anti-male or sexist.
Ummm... gypsy... I will begin by pointing out that the question was why viagra is covered by Ins., but not BIRTH CONTROL. McCain is not confused, you are. As for your obsession with his facial expression... well it was, to say the least, an unusual question. My question is, what the hell does his facial expression have anything to do with it! As for morals... SLObamma is no angel either!
The eyes communicate more than any other part of the human anatomy. Staring or gazing at others can create pressure and tension in the room. Maintained eye contact can show if a person is trustworthy, sincere or caring. Shifty eyes, too much blinking can suggest deception. People with eye movements that are relaxed and comfortable yet attentive to the person they are conversing with are seen as more sincere and honest.
I would love to hear from someone who knows about "body language". I blinked my eyes TWICE while watching the video....he blinked (as close as i could figure...101). I think he is a bumbling old fool.
This is so fucking stupid! Birth Control, put a fucking condom on. You don't need the government to fucking pay for people's birth control pills. It's called a market healthcare system, you choose it for yourself. Who gives a fuck. Obama is a dumbass, period.
You obviously don't get the point. In 2000 Gore was branded with "inventing the Internet," inspiring Love Story, letting feminists tell him how to dress, etc. Not just Fox News or Limbaugh, but from "liberal" media like NY Times and NBC. Many Repubs have staked their whole careers on claptrap issues like contraceptives and gov't. giveaways. A McCain spokesperson makes a stupid party-line assertion and he's 100% clueless. But since he's a such straight-shooting truth teller, it's all cool.
Politicians get asked all kinds of questions, the subject isn't the issue, the problem is the fact that he cant seem to provide any kind of opinion on something so simple without seeking some coaching first. Sad.
If he falters on such a topic how will he handle the hard stuff. No pun intended. This is health care related simply saying we are covering one thing not another and why? McCain is simply not johnny on the spot when it comes to some things and seems to be easy to mess up when his loss of hair is mentioned or a topic like viagra comes up. For the guy that said the reporter is an idiot i ask why? she asked a question he simply was not prepared for and blew it. as prez he will have to do the same.
But if you wanna keep on discussing viagra, your opinion of homosexuals, and how to reduce global warming by all means keep talking. But the bright side is if factories and cars aren't operating, I guess we cant cause any pollution then, huh?
Why they fuck are they asking questions about viagra and birth control? Its such a stupid issue to concern yourself about, especially considering that we could be on the verge of an economical collapse.
Think about it: if gas prices get to high people are going to spend all of their money on gas to get to work. No one is going to be able to afford anything and eventually most people will be laid off.
So women shouldn't concern themselves with the fact that their reproductive rights aren't as important as a man being able to get an erection? It's nice to know that people think a woman's body, and her life choices should just take a back seat to a man's penis.
im sorry I dont need or use viagra so i dont concern myself with the issue. further more this is a topic you should be taking up with the insurance companies. It's not the president's place to be telling insurance companies how to run their business.
coolbeans326: The idiot reporter asked the question because McCain's own appointed mouthpiece spouted off a bunch of crap about viagra and birth control and Bozo the Clown doesn't have enough brain cells to remember issues that his party makes a very big deal about. We're suffering through 8 yrs of one Republican idiot, and now you want another round to stupidity? WTF.
When did people get so fucking angry? In this video he just looks uncomforable, which i can understand, but is still sort of immature. But c'mon. Don't be so angry because he doesn't want to talk about erect penises or vaginas on national television
Do you really want a president who gets uncomfortable at the mention of dicks n' cunts? I want a president with the guts to look the straight at the camera and say what they really think about the question without having to figure out how its going to offend the half-asleep backwards retard voters he has to pander to.
That uncomfortable look was the look an old fart gets when satans cock slides just a little bit deeper up his ass.
and oh yeah, i got so fucking angry about seven years ago.
Why do people get so angry? Because there's still a good chance this hollow gas bag may become our next president. Because even after 8 years of Bush & Co. people still fall for this hee-hee I'm just a straight shooter kind of a guy. Because the contrast should be so fucking obvious!
In principle, the point of insurance is to only charge you the average risk of developing a disorder.
ex)10% chance of getting a disease that costs 1000$ to treat. Everyone pays 100$ into a fund to cover the disease instead of only those who happen to get it paying the full 1000$.
ED is a disease the only some people develop, and Viagra is a treatment for it. Sex is a risk activity that some people choose to do, like cycling. You wouldn't expect insurance companies to buy your bike helmet.
Dumbest question ever, who on this planet really does have an opinion about viagra being covered and not birth control? If you had an opinion on this issue then you need some more things to think about. Viagra is very different than birth control and it's being covered is a very different issue.

The logic behind it is obvious. Viagra is a medication because it's meant to treat Erectile Dysfunction, a medical affliction.
Birth Control for women is not a medication because it only prevents pregnancy, which is not a disease.
I hate technicalities, but it just needs to be pointed out. It's a dumb policy, because everyone knows that Viagra is only recreational, but birth control is absolutely vital.
scharb 3 years ago
No its not. How do you think women in the older days got through. They weren't complaining about birth control pills at all because there weren't any, just as there wasn't any Viagra. This just SEEMS to be a different time when people think they need a fix to get by.
jazziz08 3 years ago
viagra is a medication, birth control is not.
the question should be
WHY DO WE NEED A PRESCRIPTION TO GET BIRTH CONTROL MR. MCCAIN?
weloveaz 3 years ago
uh hello? you obviously dont know that much about the BC pill. Its not just prescribed to sexually active women or for the act of sex at all. it has other uses. but i guess silly men dont like talking about womens icky periods: read no further if you're that squeemish-
wealthe0w 3 years ago
the pill helps regulate a womans period such as lessening cramps and heavy bleeding, it also reduces it to only a few days rather than a week-long ordeal, it also puts it on a regular schedule. so for women who have heavy bleeding, horrible cramps, susceptible to mood swings or irregular periods, the birth control pill is a HUGE help. I would call that a treatment for a medical affliction
wealthe0w 3 years ago
well it is my personal opinion that it should be available over the counter. not by prescription.
weloveaz 3 years ago
that would be great but different women need different doses and different brands. different products for different people, and you need a doctor to look at you and give you a prescription for that

I don't see a reason why either one should be covered.
If a man isn't getting enough stimulation he's way too old to be having sex.
If a woman wants to have sex, but is afraid of the risks of a child, how about not doing it in the first place?
There are a lot more important issues to worry about than a bunch of horny old men and tocophobic women.

Cornplanter 3 years ago
FenixSync - what are you talking about? i'm not against sex, i'm just saying practice safe and smart sex. birth control pills aren't even 100% effective. Is it really worth the risk?
Cornplanter - I agree with you all the way up to old guys sprouting wood, but I highly doubt the the "companies" you speak of will cover jack shit for anyone's child but their own.
battledmg 3 years ago
"but I highly doubt the the "companies" you speak of will cover jack shit for anyone's child but their own."
Of course not. Why would an employer cover people who are not family members of their employees?
My point is, the more kids an employee has, the more cost to the company's insurance plan. And personally, I know I whenever my employer has to pay more for insurance, we employees have to pay more.

Birth control is life saving for many females and health insurance companies covering viagra and NOT birth control is bullshit. And McCain's ignorance on the issue, and on MANY womens' issues for that matter, is appalling.
kupotenshi 3 years ago
McCain shouldn't answer a stupid sexist question.
Women compare birth control to a drug used to treat heart failure.
Women need to quit asking someone to control their bodies and take care of their own body.
Women need to be more independent!
kvjhedfbv 3 years ago
kvjhedfbv, i believe this is concering the independence of women and equal opportunity..women should have every right to insurance coverage of birth control if viagra is covered as well..especially if it is not being used for a heart condition and actually being used to get it up.
ItsMsRoxy 3 years ago
You did not mention male birth control being covered. Thanks for that gesture of equal opportunity.
BC for women is recreational and causes cervical cancer.
Not being able to get it up is a symptom of a serious underlying problem, which you could careless about.
I think you hate men!
kvjhedfbv 3 years ago
Why would men need to take birth control? All in all, it's a women's responsibility to take care of her own body and birth control is one way she can. You say women need to be more independent and take control of their bodies, birth control is there for that reason! ED is a serious problem and it's good that insurance companies cover it, but prevention is important too. MAYBE if BC was covered, abortion wouldn't be as big a problem as it is right now.
kupotenshi 3 years ago
Allowing an Insurance company to pay for and choose the form of Birth control is not controlling your own body.
Women need to learn how to control their own body.
Women need sex education.
kvjhedfbv 3 years ago
What, women shouldn't have sex unless they want to have a child? Men are free to have sex whenever they want to but when women have sex, they get pregnant. Birth control DOES give control over a woman's own body because it allows her to have sex almost as freely as a man. What's wrong with that??
kupotenshi 3 years ago
Men need birth control also but men are not crying for someone else to pay for it.
No one is stopping a woman from getting her own birth control.
You want someone to control a woman's body.
Women need sex education.
kvjhedfbv 3 years ago
They don't cry about it because I'm pretty sure that most men aren't concerned about birth control unless they're married...and even then I don't think it's a major issue for the man.
You're right, no one is stopping them. BUT HOW CAN THEY? Some women can't afford pricey birth control pills and that's where insurance is supposed to come in, but I guess not. Please explain the "sex education" that women need, because I don't think that's the issue here.
kupotenshi 3 years ago
Women can't afford BC pills? So what?
Millions of men can not afford things, what makes women special?
Women need to be taught in sex ed, controlling their own body means women make the decisions, not an Insurance company or a man.
kvjhedfbv 3 years ago
Men can't afford Viagra? So what?
Oh wait, but Viagra's covered. What makes a man so special?
If women make the decision to have sex and THEY DECIDE they don't want a baby, birth control should be covered for them. Many women decide to stay abstinent until marriage but you can't lump all women into that category. There are actually women out there that have a very active sex life just like men.
kupotenshi 3 years ago
The reason for health insurance is to cover basic medical care, and provide insurance to the costs of that care. Birth Control is a basic medical care, as well as a medication for many people. Chillax - you seem very bitter.

ONLY women think Viagra is a form of male birth control.

I was unaware man haters had special vision. Stop being a dick just to be a dick. Health insurance DOES cover Viagra for men, which affords them the ability to have sex for fun, which is one function of birth control. So, it's the same.
alulu8 3 years ago

Still, as an advocate of birth control, I do support the surrogate's call for its greater availability.
zhikaibeijing 3 years ago
Birth control is a life-saving drug. Many females on prescription anti-acne medication must take birth control concurrently because those drugs cause horrific fetal deformations and life-threatening pregnancy complications. Of course, that's hardly its most common use, just as Viagra's most common use isn't hypertension. It definitely a double-standard for birth control not to be covered by insurance when Viagra is, and believing that doesn't make one anti-male or sexist.
mundungus42 3 years ago

The eyes communicate more than any other part of the human anatomy. Staring or gazing at others can create pressure and tension in the room. Maintained eye contact can show if a person is trustworthy, sincere or caring. Shifty eyes, too much blinking can suggest deception. People with eye movements that are relaxed and comfortable yet attentive to the person they are conversing with are seen as more sincere and honest.
