she butchred sum parts and if not oversung she was flat and off key in a lot of places this is a fast song but her breathing was all over the place this was not a good performance. A lot of singers can sing LOUD but they stay on key when they do it. Kelly Price is on of them.
Good energy, vocals weren't the best however. Sounded like she was screaming almost the whole song. One thing I've noticed she does better with slower songs, so if she would have sung one of Aretha's slow songs, she would have killed it.

I agree. Although I am a skinny guy, I just happen to have a lust for + sized girls. Jennifer is gorgeous! For some reason, bigger girls have prettier faces. Toccara Jones (a + sized model who came on ANTM) has a beautiful face and Jennifer Hudson has a beautiful face too.

Not at all Oversung,even if so ,not entire song,i Love ppl sing out loud and soulful and even oversung is "A GREAT NEW STYLE approach",only those very conservatives or socalled " new ears" cannot able to adapt to these styles,OK i have heard seen this full perf.i Love it!!! not oversung.

she butchred sum parts and if not oversung she was flat and off key in a lot of places this is a fast song but her breathing was all over the place this was not a good performance. A lot of singers can sing LOUD but they stay on key when they do it. Kelly Price is on of them.

Good energy, vocals weren't the best however. Sounded like she was screaming almost the whole song. One thing I've noticed she does better with slower songs, so if she would have sung one of Aretha's slow songs, she would have killed it.

Aretha Franklin looked like a big ass Tidal wave, LOL she needs to loose sum weight and lay off the double cheeseburgers cuz I'm sure if someone threw one at her she would have caught it!! And Jen this song is butchered she was all over the place and flat in sum, not a very good performance but she can sing tho. But Aretha needs to get a better attitude I love her music but the way she acts is terrible she needs to learn there are other good singers besides her!!!

Okay think is a hard song to sing cause the way aretha sings it its fast and smooth alot of people cant sing that fast and arethas fat ass should have known that instead of sitting in her chair and getting an attitude cause jennifer hudson cant sing like her and aretha knew that looking like a fat ass dolphin and i love aretha franklins music not her attitude

I think she was just outta breath and if she would have stood flat foot and sang she would have done better cause this song demands that you breathe properly in order to really excecute it to the fullest im just glad she didnt pass out but trust Aretha wasnt Naomi Campbell walkin back and forth cross no stage singin this one lol

this one was a lil hard for her but she just seemed nervous. yall expect too much from my girl...she's not aretha she's JENNIFER HUDSON n you can tell shes just a bit overwhelmed but she looked gorgeous as always-go jenn!

I agree. Although I am a skinny guy, I just happen to have a lust for + sized girls. Jennifer is gorgeous! For some reason, bigger girls have prettier faces. Toccara Jones (a + sized model who came on ANTM) has a beautiful face and Jennifer Hudson has a beautiful face too.
P.S. (I wrote this in my other comment) Do you know the guy who introduces Jennifer at the beginning of this video? He kinda looks like Brandon Rogers (although I know he is NOT Brandon Rogers).

Less IS More, Jennifer needs to come down a bit... Do some meditation, yoga, breathing exercise to calm herself down... Shes all over the place at the same time, I've never seen anything like it...Even Aretha was like "okay....."

What's up with the yelling throughout the enitre song! Aretha didn't even do that. She didn't need to. It's almost like, she was trying to be hard. We all know she can sing. She just needs to settle down.

People are calling her all sorts of names. Soprano, Mezzo, even contralto. I say she's a soprano with a big and heavy voice. She even refers to herself as a high soprano or "first soprano" during one of her performances.
A woman has to have a deeper voice to be considered anything other than soprano. Her voice is not deep.

NOOO. voice classfication depends on where the tessitura lies. Tessitura is defined as: "the prevailing range of a vocal or instrumental part, within which most of the tones lie". Sopranos have a higher tessitura, and mezzos have a lower tessitura. While it is true that mezzos typically have a richer texture than some sopranos, there are many light mezzos. I don't know what Jennifer Hudson's voice type is but her voice sounds very tired in this performance, probably due to poor technique.

Right. Voice classification is not based on tessitura alone. It's based mainly on timbre AND tessitura with the additional characteristic of weight. Her voice sounds brighter, her tessitura is higher, she can easily sing beyond Eb without any problems. These are all indications that she's more than likely a higher voiced singer.
My mistake was making the description too general. Her voice doesn't have to be clearly deep or dark to be mezzo. MY BAD.

I know everybody loves her, but I don't like this bitch. She yells entirely too much. I think she butchered And I Am Telling You. Jennifer Holliday put her soul into that song, and this chick comes in and thinks she's the queen. I may be overstepping, but her career is not going to have that much longjevity.

J.Hud may have a strong voice but it is not a very high voice and most of the time when she cannot hit high notes she screams, them... She needs to learn voice control... But she can learn.
Aretha looked a little a too critical... She act like one of the pros was singing her song.
J.hud is still not a Great singer, not because she can't sing but she lacks experience that can only be gained through a true musical career.

Jen was a bit shouty but this is a TOUGH song! It's all through a typical vocal range. And for an "alto" voice, I think she pulled it off pretty well! Now ARETHA looked like a beached whale over there and was pissed off cuz her FOOD tray was late or something!! LOL! She could have at least politely smiled! Sheesh!!!

Jennifer has a powerful voice but this song wasn't a good one for her to sing. I think she's more of an alto and she over sang the song waaaay too much.
