  • wow, wow, wow wow¡¡¡¡ Damian¡¡¡ you are my hero, amazing sound, amazing groove¡¡¡¡ greetings from mexico city

    Edgar

  • Hey Damian, I just bought your album and I love it! But I was wondering what looping station are you using here, and if its expensive are their any relatively cheap ones you would recommend?

  • @BassDrumsGuitarMasta It's a Boss Loop Station RC-20 (I think). It's the 2-pedal version. It goes for about 300. They also make a single pedal version that works great for less. GREAT practice tool!

  • Damian really like you style of playing and your perfect technique. Number one question. How may hours a day on average do you practice? When Is the V-Strap coming out? Thanks

  • @DonaldWaughMusic Thanks man! I try and get a little bit in every day but I mostly am busy working on music for gigs. I'm ALWAYS playing, just not always practicing... I'm gigging a lot and usually shedding for that stuff. The V-Strap should be out within a month or two!!! We're almost there! (finally.. ;)

    Thanks for checking, man!

  • @damianerskine I have been practice the four finger technique for about seven months. Trying to replace the two finger technique that have been recking my wrist. I would really appreciate it if you would head over to my channel and take a look at my technique and give me your honest critique. Please don't spare my feeling, be as harsh as you like. Really need to get forward motion. Thanks again for replying.

  • @DonaldWaughMusic You sound great man!! Really dug the solo at Redbones and enjoyed your other home-mdae videos as well. I did have a few thoughts, but very minor. You're obviously putting in the work and on the right path. Shoot me a private message or email and we can dialogue more about it (I couldn't find the link to send you a personal msg through your page...)

  • Damian really like you style of playing and your perfect technique. Number one question. How may hours a day on average do you practice?

  • @DonaldWaughMusic I used to practice for an hour or two every day. These days I'm mostly just gigging or shedding for gigs. I probably get a few hours in of actual practice time every week (where I'm working on my playing and not someone else's music). Thanks for the kind words man!

  • What did you use for recording your loop live? Is it an hardware device (and which one is it?) or a software? (Still, which one would it be?)

    Keep up the excellent work!

  • @katraal I answer this one a lot in the comments, I think. It's a Boss Loop Station. It's since died and I REALLY need to replace that thing! such a great practice tool...

  • We need you to do a clinic in the Detroit area! Your skills are incredible man!

  • Great tone bro!!! Sounds great man! I'm inspired!!

  • Although you dont slap.

You still have that really percussive element.

  • nice groove - rhsc nyc

  • it's very good I like your style

  • You are most musical musician I've seen, all your stuff is mindblowing, also kinda depressing, I'm bassist myself too but i cant play proper solos like this :<. I cant believe my ears when you play solos... I have actually listened your stuff for 2 years or something and you have been my main influence along with the basic influences clarke, jaco and so on...

  • @LuGiah Man, I don't know what to say. THANK YOU!! You really made my evening reading that! I have a habit of only seeing how far I still have to go and it feels good for someone to say "look how far you've come!" ;)

    Thanks SO much friend.

  • @damianerskine i cant believe you think you have a far way to go!! i dont even think you could get any better, unless you grew another finger or something haha.

also, what was the name of that dvd you did with gouche and feruad?

  • what gadget did you use?

  • @NJLight16 Looper was the old Boss Loop Station pedal. Metronome was on my iPhone. DrBetotte, I think it's called (like the old Dr. Beat metronomes way back!)

  • First I would like to say, I am a fan of the Grove. Quick question, I saw you bend down it looked like you changed the sound via a pedal or something. Did it have anything to do with the awesome tone your getting? I know it's 90% the bass but I was wondering if there was something your doing behind the scenes.

  • @thort9ac I think I was adjusting the volume of the loop. The only pedal I was using was the Boss Loop Station. The tone is all me and the bass running through a little SWR workingman's 10. Thanks for the kind words!!

  • Actually one question man...how would you rate the playability of this thing vs. the other "big" names, Fodera, MTD, F bass etc.?

  • Oh my other post didn't go up first...I had first said, great playing and great bass. Love what you're doing.

Also, I owned one of your old Foderas for a bit. Fodera Monarch 6 fretless, buckeye top, kingwood board. At least I was told it was originally yours ;-) Sounded great but it was huge.

  • @saxajar I just saw this! I loved that old Fodera but, yeah... that thing was HUGE! The neck's on their 6's are far too wide for me. Great bass, tho

  • @saxajar It's right up there with the best of them. It's easier to play than most Fodera 6's for me (because of the spacing). Any of those brands play well. The Skjold fits me the best, tho

  • @damianerskine Yeah, since I posted those questions I actually ordered and have already received a ziricote topped 6 string Erskine Whaleback. Quite a bass. I think you may have seen it from Pete...

  • @saxajar Awesome bass! congrats man. hope you love yours as much as I love mine! ;)

  • Groove in 15... Man I have heard odd meters but I don't think I've ever heard anybody venture there before.

I really dig your playing man. So lyrical!

  • @GaindeBass Thanks man! 15 is usally just broken up as two bars of 4 (=8) plus a bar of 7/8 (=7).. 8+7=15.

if you can play in 4 and are comfortable in 7, it's just alternating between the two, really. or, like this video.. if it's a slower count of 15, you'd have 3-bars of 4 + 1-bar of 3. Not too bad once you get comfortable playing in different time signatures. Soloing over it is harder than playing bass, tho... ;)

  • Hey, what happened to the Zon?

  • @SwedishBass LOVED my Zon but it wasn't quite right (the 6 string, that is). I still play my Zon 4 sometimes and my Zon fretless is still my fretless of choice. I really started to crave something different in a 6 string, tho. Skjold nailed it!

  • I wish i could afford that bass, it sounds amazing and it looks so dam beautiful! and you definitely have to most more videos like this!

  • Love the vids.

  • Really nice D! Yeah man, dug that a lot.

    -Lucas

  • Wow, I Love the Groove!

    What Harmonics are you using?

I see the 5th fret but whats that high one?

  • There are a ton of harmonics in the 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th frets.. I use a little of them all. You can make chords, etc.. once you figure out what notes are which!

  • SWEET!!!

  • What I-phone app. did you use? Great playing (and singing).

  • I think it was drbetotte metronome. great app!

  • Damian! You are the man! Anybody beg to differ?...I think not!

  • thanks brother!

  • Hey Damian,

Love your new bass and that groove. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on that opening groove you played for the GC promotional vid. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and God bless!

    -Glenn

  • If I remember correctly, are you talking about the latin type line? I don't quite remember what key it's in but I think I'm just playing root,5,9 or something and then playing a b6 chord to a 5 chord. You should transcribe it! That's the best way to learn from the stuff... figure it out! ;) Thanks again man.

  • Unbelieveable!

  • man bro i love the way you play dude... we gotta jam

  • Thanks so much man.. LIKEWISE!! and we will... no doubt. NAMM if nuthin else!

  • What are you thinking about as far as note choice on this particular solo? Are you thinking about a scale? Just trying to figure out your approach. Outstanding playing!

  • I'm mostly just thinking overall harmony. Approaching the scale and or chords from different angles (not as many as I would have liked on this one, tho...;) Sometimes I'll invent my own chord changes over a static tonality like this.. I wasn't really feeling this solo, so I never really got out of my head, but it's all playing with the tonality and approaching it from different directions..

  • The Greatest! What a unique Sound Keep it coming!

  • Thanks man!!

  • i heard some scatting! cheers to that! hehe! :D

  • Mr Erskine you're killin' me man....

    I like this....a little George Benson-esque ;-)

For this kind of phrasing, I think a large portion of your spirit must live in your fingers.

    Peace & Luv!

  • 3 bars of 4 pal. Sorry! X-D

  • I ALWAYS screw something up when my mouth is open... caught that before uploading but didn't think it was a big enough deal to ditch the whole recording =) HA

    yeah, 3 4's + a 3

  • Awesome playing as usual Damian, sweet new Skjold there, i love mine as well :D
