No apologies are needed. This is a fine performance of the old classic, and I'd say it belongs in the tradition of Chet and Jerry and Tommy. Keep up the fine work!
Thank you so much, Samborambo664! I hope "musically incorrect" styles are allowed in Youtube; after all, no one is forced to watch. As long as the ears don't suffer much too much...
I love Kay Starr's version of Stardust, it's the best of all versions on the most covered song of all time. Unfortunately, there is not a single recording of her version amongst the millions of youtube videos in the blogosphere. This video is the only one that comes up when you search youtube for "Kay Starr" "Stardust" How sad!
I have a guitar myself, but I have no idea how to teach myself to play it... I would love it so much to play guitar and play songs like this!! What a wonderful job you did on this fantastic classic!
Thank you so much, Chermaster85, for your appreciation! In my experience, one of the best ways to learn is through a tutorial dvd (chosen carefully, in the style you prefer).
So good i had to sign up to You Tube just to be able to leave this comment! One of the best things i have seen on here. So beautifully played with such pure feel. Loved it. Thankyou
Tamborr your style is awesome-Jerry and Chet would be proud I wish I had A webcam to post my own guitar vids as I can play jazz guitar ala Joe Pass but alas no way to post it keep up the great work man T
Mil gracias, TheBluesTrigger! Acabo de ver algunos de tus videos, y me da orgullo tu comentario. Creo yo también que mantener cierta crudeza de estilo es esencial, pues demasiada perfeccion técnica puede matar el encanto.
hey man, this is not offensive to any jazz enthusiast. if anything, this is going back to jazz roots, i'm talkin' django and the gypsy guitarists. i like this spin on one of my favorite standards.
Thank you, Flyersfan10! Your encouraging opinion makes me feel better about tampering with the jazz canon (and especially a fine Hoagy Carmichael song)
Thank you so much, Comradezeroband! I for my part try to get used to the basics of thumb-picking, i.e. playing the bass line with the thumb while playing the melody with the rest of the fingers (I learnt by watching a DVD tutorial)
You're probably right, Gmfmusic. But Youtube also allows one to discover so many amazing musicians, that one is sometimes tempted to give up music for ever. Hence the apologies.
Your style has an infectious beat. You really know how to slam/mute that 6th string for a strong beat. As soon as I wake up, I'm going to give it a try! Well done!
Thanks for giving this a try, Terry1634! It's not very orthodox jazz, to say the least, and I'm afraid some jazz fans would like to cut my throat (or chop my hands) for posting this.
Nice done! Perfect length - about 1 minute. Thanks for making it not too long and boring, as youtubers usually like.

It sounds like the musically correct style to me.
Keep developing your own style. It sounds like it has a lot of potential.

Excellent job! I've just finished recording my own version. Yours is neat!

My god, I loved it so much ._.

This is a nice rendition. The only criticism I have is that you can't hear much of the bass stride at all. But it's beautiful regardless.

You're so right! Kay Starr would deserve to be better known and publicized as a fabulous jazz singer (especially her 1940s songs). Thanks, Fozmubi!

This knocks me out. I've listened to it about 5 times now and every time that swinging thumb bass and sweet tone you've got gets me smiling.
vajrabum 2 years ago
Thanks a lot, Vajrabum! I was afraid that the thumb bass might sound too crudely percussive: glad that you enjoyed it instead.

Please post your videos: a small photo camera that does short films (like mine) is enough.
