Same thing happened to me. 2 months after playing a game a lot more than any game I've played in a while I believe caused it to occur. 5 minutes after turning it on one night and bam shut off and went to yellow light. I would never send it to Sony though especially with the cd.... hold the power button when turning on the ps3 from the back and even with yellow light it should spit the cd out. Sony will not return the game to you since you don't even get the same system so also take the hd out.

I got the YLOD, and fixed it myself..Im no electronic genius but it was easy enough. You should see the guys name that used his 5/6 video guide. reflowing CPU/RSX w/ a heatgun(returned it walmart..I know cheap bastard), and used Artic Silver 5 thermal paste. Made my 5 yr old very happy for christmas break. GIlsky was the guy name I believe.
YLOD can be fixed by yourself. its just the souldering on the CPU and the GPU has become inactive, all ya gotta do is get a heat gun and heat the CPU and the GPU for around 2 minutes. simples.

the main reason for the ring of death because these gaming companys make a higher resolution game which ps3 cant support properly resulting to the ps3 over heating do to long periods of playing games, like black ops and battlefield which have high resolution causing the ring of death. i got the ring of death twice now. once in sept 2010 playing BC2 and today playing black ops. just take a look at the other youtube ring of death video's and see what game they were playing that cause ps3 to fail

I Fixed My Ylod PS3. The Thermal Paste Was Evaporated & Dried Up So I Removed It With A Bus Card Lol. Got Some Artic Silver 5 & Re Pasted The CPU & GPU. I Pasted The GPU More Because It Was Singed On 3 Edges. Now My PS3 Is Running Much Quiter Since I Cleaned The Fan Vents Thouroughly With A Tooth Brush & Vacuumed It Out. This Fix Costed Me $10 As Opposed $180 To Sony

I got the YLOD, and fixed it myself..Im no electronic genius but it was easy enough. You should see the guys name that used his 5/6 video guide. reflowing CPU/RSX w/ a heatgun(returned it walmart..I know cheap bastard), and used Artic Silver 5 thermal paste. Made my 5 yr old very happy for christmas break. GIlsky was the guy name I believe.

YLOD can be fixed by yourself. its just the souldering on the CPU and the GPU has become inactive, all ya gotta do is get a heat gun and heat the CPU and the GPU for around 2 minutes. simples.

@AKinGdom1 That's probably It. All I know is that my friend's ps3 had the yellow light of death and the disk was stuck inside. He called Sony and they told him about a disk eject button.

the main reason for the ring of death because these gaming companys make a higher resolution game which ps3 cant support properly resulting to the ps3 over heating do to long periods of playing games, like black ops and battlefield which have high resolution causing the ring of death. i got the ring of death twice now. once in sept 2010 playing BC2 and today playing black ops. just take a look at the other youtube ring of death video's and see what game they were playing that cause ps3 to fail

@mynamewastaken18 PS3 got more popular after the slim model so im pretty sure 80% of the PSN community doesn't really care and its almost entirely unlikely for it to have it, but however, the ps3 is still much better in my opinion and your discs don't get raped if you move the console while the game is inside.

One: Most PS3 users will turn their consoles on by pressing and holding the PS button on the controller without even thinking about it, not by pressing the console power button. Two: No one says something like, "Come on lets play some Duty," unless they KNOW that they will be watched by people on the Internet, OR they believe they have an imaginary friend to play with. So, this video is clearly staged by an Xbox 360 fanboy.

I Fixed My Ylod PS3. The Thermal Paste Was Evaporated & Dried Up So I Removed It With A Bus Card Lol. Got Some Artic Silver 5 & Re Pasted The CPU & GPU. I Pasted The GPU More Because It Was Singed On 3 Edges. Now My PS3 Is Running Much Quiter Since I Cleaned The Fan Vents Thouroughly With A Tooth Brush & Vacuumed It Out. This Fix Costed Me $10 As Opposed $180 To Sony

@wungnung This isn't a scam, simply an issue where Sony needs to improve a cooling solution. The firmware and games that have many things going on simply overheated the CPU and/or GPU. This means that the solder spheres under the chip have melted away or cracked. The best solution is to have it reballed, NOT reflowed, it is only temporary. GUTTED MATE! Ive got a 60gb ps3 model but mines absouletly working fine. Ive ran out of warranty so i cant replace mine either. Ive had my ps3 for about 2,3 years mate. Running smooth but it gets loud.
Gutted that ur call of duty got stuck in the drive.
